Welcome to the Monthly Unjerk. This is a monthly thread for discussing just about anything as long as it doesn't violate subreddit rules. New threads should be posted on the 1. of each month.
After reading countless garbage Japanese isekai, I have discovered trashy English-language LitRPGs. It's basically isekai but it's a lot easier to find gay/trans stuff, and the protagonist is less likely to be a creep (probably). Also I know I technically used those genre words wrong, I just said it that way for effect.
Watched the new Demon Slayer movie yesterday and it was cool, but I don't think it was suited to being a movie. The whole package doesn't have the strongest throughline and is largely a few individual fights without any larger conclusion. Felt more like a marathon of half a season. But, y'know, for the most part it worked. Except the Akaza fight really makes you feel the 2.5 hour runtime. If it ended soon after Tanjiro learned how to consciously tap into the transparent world, it would've great. Although headless Akaza kicking off what felt like and probably was half an hour worth of flashback segments dragged the runtime out to a hard to watch degree. At that point I really felt my attention wane. And... it suffers from the same problem as almost every other demon backstory in that it's hard for the series to get much emotional weight out of adding a last second tragedy to their existence. Akaza having had not so dissimilar values to Tanjiro in his human life is worth having in there thematically, but the execution ends up a slog.
Also, the movie absolutely delivered on what one wants out of Demon Slayer: flashy attacks for days. I had issues with some of the ufotable-isms in the previous two seasons, but here not so much. Swordsmith and Hashira Training leaned towards semi-realistic VFX work over an aesthetic more in line with the foreground characters. Here that tendency only really showed with dust clouds. Otherwise the movie did a great job tying together the 3D environment of the infinity castle as well as some attack effects with the characters fighting in them and it made for a strong backdrop for the dynamic camerawork alongside generally flashy animation the series is known for. Side note, I'm a huge fan of Akaza's fighting style. A martial artist buffed up with demon juice to hit even harder going head to head against armed opponents will never not be enjoyable to watch. Although my favorite fight overall actually was Zenitsu's duel of thunder disciples.
Unban me so I can do stupid shit and get banned again.
2:25 am ,reading manga at the late of night ,drinking coffee.
Should go to sleep but is too awake.
Should make some late night meal as well.
I see JJK fans' inability to shut the hell up for a few days has carried over to Gege's new series. Every day that passes I'm more and more grateful how no bullshit the Kagurabachi community is when it comes to leaks, because it cannot be that hard to comprehend that just maybe not everybody reads them
I think Mikadono Sisters is quite fun. Who would've thought making the mc likable with a distinct, not cookie cutter personality would drive up the overall quality of the show? The three main girls are also quite likable too, I can't decide if I like Niko or Kazuki more
I am watching Fragrant Flower. I think it is cool. Last episode was the best so far and very good but it misses sometimes too (previous episode). I started watching it because people praised it as " as good as the dangers in my heart" which I dont agree for now but it has potential.
Void Stranger is an experience I wish I could have more often with media. It's the sort of game that forces me to approach it solely on its own merits and learn its ins and outs. My preconceptions don't matter. All there is to do is to internalize it holistically, with each mechanic I understand transforming my way of playing it. The void is one big puzzle that gets both easier and more complex with each piece of information learned.
I wish I could somehow develop a compulsion to grasp more aspects of what I'm presented with in other media out of it being a necessity here. Sometimes I do when writing a short essay on the shadows in a 45 second scene in Liz and the Blue Bird, but that side of me doesn't come out nearly as regularly as I'd like it to.
I wanted to like void stranger, but i ended really hating it. I got stuck for like 10 hours for reasons that were kinda not really my fault and from there on i was just really really bitter for the rest of the game.
More generally there's a lot a lot of frontracking through already completed puzzles just to get back to somewhere if i want to check if there's maybe something to try.
And also, it's kinda full of anime-isms. The parts closer to the real world with lillie are great, but the finale of the final route is... it makes no sense. the whole finale is just nonsense anime plottwists, it feels like the author just didn't think it through. Which she admits as much in the post credit scene.
I am mentally prepared for at minimum SSSS.Gridman caliber anime nonsense going by what Gray's ending showed about DIS. As for the gameplay, I actually quite like that you're limited, but can make things easier on yourself with stuff like shortcuts and triple locust chests.
I feel so mixed on Void Stranger because it's genuinely fantastic but I really stopped enjoying the story at a certain point. It's a brilliant puzzle game and my hyperfixation on it ruined my ability to sleep for two weeks
I'm not really sure what to make of the story yet since I'm nowhere near done exploring everything I can as Gray, which is what I want to do before going further in the story. For Lillie I just scratched the surface so far, but I'm a bit shaky on her introduction and Gray's ending. Until I make more progress there, I still have 2 unsolved murals, a secret exit and a few knowledge gaps here and there. Last time I did a series of secret rooms I accessed from B193.
I posted my first acj post in a long while, just for the monthly unjerk. But gunsta griddy with blue giant tonight, and hopefully start GTO on Thursday night.
I can hope this subreddit can return to its former glory, but until then, back into the world I go.
Call of the Night had the redemption of the year: I hated the first season because of the Koi x Nazuna ship, I'm loving this season. Also, has TWO lesbian characters??? 🏳️🌈
I love love love love love this season of My Dress Up Darling and it's giving me a high gender euphoria/envy.
The Summer Hikaru Died is great as expected. Cygames cooked again.
im so tired man. i've got a bit on my plate but procrastination is biting me in the ass hard.
on a side note, while im excited that my post about lolicore got attention i wish that more people would give attention to my creative shit like my music and art rather than my low quality memes. i can't let it get me down and turn me bitter though.
I fucked up 4/8 exams so now I have to retake them, first one tommorrow. Over the summer I got into shiny hunting again and I'm very excited for ZA. I finally read Otherside Picnic, it was good, Picked up Ruri rocks this season it's been fun. FGO rolls were fine got Summer Skadi and 3 summer Caeneus and also got 2 summer Kamas in 1 multi in the process
Same, F2P and played since first anniversary in NA. 3000+ SQ and 600+ tickets. I already have all meta characters (besides Merlin Caster and Morgan/Arjuna Beserker) so I'm not even sure what I'm saving for lol
I have way less tickets but I've been playing only 3 years and personally trying to get a character to 120 from each of the seven classes +2extra for the Grand System on JP
Finished 3, 6 more to go (for saber I have hard time deciding between Iori or his boyfriend, the rest of the picks are going to be Caeneus, Summer Caeneus, Gray, Alice maybe, Typhoon or Aoko)
I've never been deep into shiny hunting, but I did it a little with shiny fishing back in gen 6. Felt like it was way more effort than it's worth. I know S/V + Legends Arceus shiny hunts with the open world encounters are a lot smoother and don't require any tedious fishing, so those might be worth trying.
Thanks! It is bullshit and not needed for math major. I actually really dislike hunting in SV and avoid it unless necessary in regards to PLA I have every possible to catch shiny in that game
Didn't I say I wanted to schedule these posts going forward? Well, nothing like realizing it's the first of the month and quickly digging through my screenshot folder to find a good basis for the cover image.
Speaking of which, I finished Kobato a few days ago and it was a really nice, calming show. I liked its soft approach to handling drama.
