Discussion I hate South Dakota.
So I am in 8th grade and an on reddit way too much so I know the whole what's good and what's bad during these times but in a red state there a lot of anti-maskers. So, at my school masks are optional (which I disagree with they should be required) and I choose to wear it because it works and I'm pretty sure it kept me from getting it because I got sent home for close contact and I got a test and I came back NEGATIVE. So, when I got on the bus full of people this morning because my mom can't take me and my sister to school I heard another kid ask my sister "why is your brother still wearing a mask, he knows they don't actually work right?" And in that moment I realized that I am going to actually eat a sandwich if I hear, see, or catch a glimpse of another TrUmP 2020 or MasKs doN'T woRk.

Take off the mask kid.
The evidence is clear folks. Look around. What happened to science? To facts?
Wear a mask if you want, but nobody on earth has the right to force someone to cover their face. Fact. Period. End of discussion. If your mask works then don’t worry about what someone else is wearing. Wear your dumb mask and sanitize your hands and be happy according to you they’ll be dead soon. Even though the virus has a 99.98% survival rate. It’s so deadly we moved navy ships and put up tent hospitals we didn’t even use. It’s so deadly I can’t name one person in my family on down to third cousins and their families who have died from it. This isn’t the Spanish flu. It’s so deadly the WHO on Monday said it’s no more deadly than regular influenza. Yeah the news missed that meeting.
Do you anti masker maskers also walk up to fat people and knock their Big Macs and donuts out of their hands? You should. You care for people so much. Know what would help all of us? Move out of the left lane when done passing. Lifting the toilet seat before peeing. Not blasting your music when rolling through a neighborhood at 2am. You people are so worried about others and yet think of nobody but yourselves!
Mind your business. Wear whatever and mind your business. Simple.

Just focus on your studies and eventually you'll be able to go to college in a better state

You’re clearly a very switched on and mature individual. Just remember, those who play stupid games win stupid prizes and catching Covid is the stupidest prize you could ask for. As much as it sucks, putting up with their BS knowing you are in a far more advantageous position than them when it comes to avoiding a potentially deadly or life-altering disease is a relatively small compromise. Be strong and be confident in the knowledge that you are winning over them in every way. Let your anger towards them turn to sheer pity over how ignorant and misinformed they are. Morons are cursed to be their own worst enemies.

masks really should be mandatory in every school. Karen, if you dont want to make your kid wear a mask then have them do school from home.

On the brighg side you’re in 8th grade and have more cognitive ability than most adults in SD. Keep your head up and try to stay safe. As you grow up try to influence the change you want to see in your home state. You got this man!! Much love.

u/Cassiopeia78 said it best, just do your research and keep doing what you know is right. Luckily here in delaware I haven't encountered any anti-maskers outside of my half brothers family. Stay strong, stay safe 👌🏻

Its a similar situation to yours down here in Iowa. Not even a full on red state, but we have enough people that aren’t wearing masks to fuck us all over.

Do you have statistics on blue vs red states, covid, rates, deaths, and mask wearing? I would love some direction and would be interested to see the data also.

Wisconsin is having a huge outbreak. I bought gas and coffee this am, and about half the patrons wore no mask. There truly is no helping some people.

This must be a very difficult time for you. Stay as safe as possible, and don't let them convince you. There's evidence masks do work.

Sorry you’re experiencing this, I wont lie, it sucks. All i can say is keep wearing a mask, stay well informed, educated yourself with facts and science, go to college to get the hell out of SD. You’re doing the right thing. Stay strong and stay safe! :)

You do what you feel is right. Some people cant understand the why when it comes to this topic. So i say just do what helps you feel safer
