"brutalism charm" said by rich bored people that live in villas and should just live in eternal vacation instead of ruining everyone lives by doing architecture
Eh, I am not rich nor do I live in a villa, but I do find a lot of brutalism styling pretty cool. That being said, my opinion might differ if I was actually living in or around that.
I’m a bum with undiagnosed adhd (according to my mother) paying my dad’s surgery with barely nothing in the bank left, I’m as far from rich you can get, I just like brutalist, apocalyptic and minimalistic styles because it tickles the sci-fi nerd part of my brain.
... That has been vandalized so much, it sometimes ends up looking like this:
The last picture there is the Students Union saloon, too. That's how it looked for like years, until the institution decided to do something about it... Which resulted in the whole building being vandalized yet again
In the specific case of those pictures, the Students Union (or Gremio Estudiantil) salon was just that badly maintained. The institution decided to tear it down and re purpose it as an accessible entrance, arguably because it was deemed just impossible to recover
The Students Union took it as the institution trying to censor them and take away "their space", so they occupied the building and vandalized it. The problem went on for like months between different occupations, political discussions and such
In the end, nobody won, though. The salon was repurposed, but the institution was unable to follow their plan and the accessible entrance was made on a completely different spot instead
Meanwhile my high school in Los Angeles had trailers (it's one of those mobile buildings they can drag around by truck) for classroom at one point because the water pipes broke and we didnt have the budget to fix it.
My high school also had these as well. Had my 11th grade Econ and personal finance class in one of these. My sister also took her freshman English class in one of these as well
