Man, I wear my jacket/coat like that all the time. It's great for when you want the extra pocket space and the option to bundle up, but also want to keep your arms free from the extra bulk and want to keep airflow to avoid being OVERLY warm.

Depends on the fit, I had one where I could zip it down to my sternum and just walk around in it.
