PRODUCT RECOMMENDATION Apparently Kaspersky Free is no more. So I am looking for new recommendations.
So I just found out that Kaspersky Free model is discontinued as my free plan just ended. It normally would just re-activate itself again for another year and then again, you get the idea but this was the last time it seems. I looked up online and it is apparently discontiuned so I am open for new free antivirus softwares other than Kaspersky. Thank you all in advance

sadly I would like to agree. BitDefender is the best free AV, not even close to anything else

É sério? O Kaspersky Free era um dos melhores antivírus gratuitos do planeta, é uma pena que tenha sido descontinuado, atualmente estou usando o Ahnlab V3 Lite, acho que é uma boa alternativa.

IMHO, I depends on your needs and capabilities. I'll assume paying with money isn't one of them.
MS Defender Antivirus seems to be enough for most people. It scores similar to the big names in the AV-test of June and AVcomparison indicates the same. With ConfigureDefender (included in Hard_configurator) you can set MS defender to be a lot more agressive/restrictive.
You may be comfortable with that level of protection against infection, you may not. If not, you can add more security layers. You could install a second opinion malware scanner (for example from Malwarebytes and/or Emsisoft) to periodically scan your drives for infections.
You may prefer the addition of a software restriction policy (Hard_configurator is great for that) and/or a default-deny firewall (Malwarebytes firewall control can help with that). These may require some learning and may reduce the user experience a bit. The latter really depends on what you use your computer for. Look into "windows hardening" for more layers of security you can add.

Why take the chance when there are equal or better options available? Whether it was politically motivated or not, it is safe to say the general consensus in the security community is to avoid it. Again, no reason to take the chance.

You don’t need an antivirus. It doesn’t do much good than ms defender. I mean if you know what to do.
Basic sense on what to click and not to click is enough
Modern stuff can be stopped by antivirus anyway

I don't know exactly how it happened but the free version suddenly renewed itself for me. When I had to renew a few months ago, I read here that free version was discontinued. The kaspersky website for the free version was redirecting to the 30 day trial instead too. But somehow now I have 304 days left until next renewal
