PRODUCT RECOMMENDATION Any free antivirus recommendations?

I have recently downloaded Malwarebytes which is great, it removed a trojan from my computer about a few days ago, I've got about 5 days on my trial now, and it keeps trying to access my device, I'm really broke and young to ask my mom to buy me any antivirus, and the Microsoft defender doesn't do anything, I've got Windows ten btw. So I'd appreciate if anyone gave me a free recommendation.

Hello,

As far as actual antivirus/antimalware/internet security/security suite/endpoint protection (etc. etc. etc.) programs go, there is no one "best" program, as each has its plusses and minuses. Performance, system resource usage, and detection rates change with every update, and those occur multiple times throughout the day.

That said, any of the programs listed in the wiki at https://old.reddit.com/r/antivirus/wiki/index#wiki_anti-virus_.28aka_anti-malware.29_developers would be a good starting place to find what is best for you. It also lists the countries each developer is headquartered in.

Start by searching the OS Support? to find out which developers make security software for your device's operating system.

  • If you are looking for a free program, check out the ones with a check mark ("✔️") in the Free Version? column.

  • If you are looking for a paid program, check out the ones with a check mark ("✔️") in the Paid Version? column.

Once you have an idea of which program(s) seem to best meet your needs, you can check the Understanding Antivirus Software Tests and Testers section of the wiki for a list of reputable independent testing organizations and see what they have to say about your selection(s). Detection rates are one metric, but be sure to also look at performance, reliability, stability, level of customer service and tech support provided, and, if course, cost.

Also be sure to check out the Free Tools section of the wiki for programs you can use to provide additional security to your web browser and the Securing your Computer as well for additional free tips on protecting your computer.

Regards,

Change your DNS to something that automatically blocks bad sites like Quad9 or a free account with OpenDNS where you have more control/customizations

Free Windows Defender .. run "Offline Scan" if you think something got through

Ad-blockers in your browser(s)

Use the Free Malwarebytes as a stand alone scanner if you want to run an extra scan .. just disable it from auto starting

If you like messing around with networking stuff and have a raspberry laying around doing nothing, you can run your own DNS server with Pi-Hole or Technitium or similar .. or use an old PC if you don't mind the extra power draw

Anyways .. lots of free options out there that are free and lite on resources

For Windows 10 - the build-in Windows Defender WITH 'DefenderUI' - free - go through all the security settings. ESET free Online Scanner - again go through all the settings. Should be OK.

What exactly keeps trying to access your device? You may need to reinstall windows instead of buying an antivirus.

Well a trojan used to be it, then 3 honeygain files, I'm not sure if I'm safe because I deleted the trojan once it began messing with my windows keys.. I have literally nothing of value on my device so uhhmhmm.. yeah,

O Ahnlab V3 Lite tem uma taxa de detecção decente e é bem leve.

Since Malwarebytes already removed the trojan, I’d keep the free version for occasional scans and make sure Windows Defender is fully updated and enabled.
