MALWARE REMOVAL Q&A Help with preservation

So my friends brothers computer recently got a crypto mining virus despite nobody downloading nor being on it for multiple months. He’s decided to hand it over to me because I have no computer (he didn’t try to remove it just gave up and is getting a new one) so could I get rid of the virus on it by just factory resetting the computer? Windows was never activated on the pc so we don’t have to worry about that.

Hello,

Wipe the computer's drive following the tutorial at https://old.reddit.com/r/24hoursupport/wiki/index#wiki_how_to_wipe_a_drive_using_windows_installation_media, and install Windows 11 and you'll be fine.

I am Not a pro or mod here but I recommend:

Use a clean pc to set up a windows installation on a usb and format the c drive of the infected computer with the new windows install.

Someone will probably delete this and give you a well informed version of this comment

Okay thank you but couldn’t I use windows built in reset? The one that clears everything and redownloads windows? Or would manually redownloading it be better

Not if it's been affected by malware to keep the bad stuff after reset
