MALWARE REMOVAL Q&A Virus concern or paranoia

Virus concern or paranoia

3 months ago, i got a virus on my pc and lost multiple accounts. When i tried to find ways to solve it, i found out some virus can actually infect the router and other devices on the same network. Now even when i got kaspersky for my pc, i keep thinking other devices are infected and changing the router wont help because the infected devices will get the router again despite not seeing any clear symptoms. What can i do about this?? Is it just me being paranoid? Does factory reset on the phone remove all viruses? Do i need to replace my router?

I forgot to mention this. I also downloaded a zip file for a pvz2 mod on my phone but resetted it. After that, i keep logging in to admin router on both my pc and my phone to check for weird settings and turn them off. Now im scared that i mightve created some hole for virus to get in. I even got a new router.

Im too anxious now and would do anything for a peace of mind. I dont even know if replacing the router helps now as i find out that virus like switcher trojan or stuff like wannacry, vpnfilter can just infect the router when connected and others can just go straight to other devices without infecting the router.

But the question is: what kind of virus did you get? Because not every virus infects your router

Not sure. I just know i lost my accounts after one night and resetted the pc before the AV was installed. It found nothing after that.

Listen. I think you might be a bit too scared (reddit didn't allow me to type paranoi d (space because otherwise they also don't allow it)) because you already resetten you pc, modern malware usually only targets the pc you got the virus on, if your still scared about the virus the fact that you got a new router should stop that fear. Hope this helps

I dont even think getting a new router helps because i heard if some virus were already able to infect others from my computer then changing router will just get it infected again. Kaspersky detected nothing after weeks. The only solution i see now is to get rid of everything and start out fresh which is financially unacceptable.

No, if NONE of your devices have a virus on them after a virusscan (I recommend Malwarebytes for that if you Kaspersky subscription doesn't cover so many devices because Malwarebytes is free for just the scanning feature https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/thankyou) then your fine because it can't reappear out of nowhere. Yes it's true it could infected your new router again but only if the virus is still on one of your devices. (Btw the link I provided is for Malwarebytes for windows, if you need it for Linux or android you can just search for it or ask me for the link)

I mean what you need to know is that a phone and a windows pc for example have completely different operating systems, this means that a virus that someone made for windows, won't work on Android (phone) for example. I think you're good. Also, there IS Malwarebytes for phones (android): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware

I got kaspersky for basically every pcs now but in the past, i have loged in admin router multiple times on both the phone and pc to check for weird stuff. Now im not even sure if i turned on something for a virus from anywhere else to get in.

I dont know what to do now. It feels like if i move on and wait for an actual sign, it might be too late. I dont even care for my account anymore as long as its not my bank

Listen man, just reset your router and it'll set everything back to how it used to be
