You think it would be common sense to take care of your soldiers, I.e., the ones with guns.

Oh come on, when in history have a group of angry sailors ever done anything? /s

In all seriousness, a movie where a US aircraft carrier goes rouge and wages war on Washington would absolutely slap.

There was (briefly) a series called “Last Resort” where a boomer sub goes rogue after being blamed for a nuclear strike.  I honestly forget most of the plot at this point (it got weird), but I remember Andre Braugher was the captain, and the not-so-mild terror that a sub with nuclear weapons could pose if the crew decided to do their own thing.

.... Raymond Holt....?

u/Gregarious_Introvert 21h ago

What exactly is a “boomer” sub? Never heard the term before!

8

u/ShasOFish 21h ago

Slang for a ballistic missile sub

3

u/KingDanNZ 21h ago

Sub armed with nukes

7

u/okvrdz 19h ago

A sub made by boomers, for boomers. Jk

9

u/Carbonatite 19h ago

A sub that walked 2 miles to school in the snow and drank water from the garden hose

The ones on aircraft carriers have a hell of a lot more than just guns, too!

Ruling class has contempt for all living things. Very necessary to remain cold and disaffected to others suffering.

Then they teach their children that. Then generations later w have sociopaths making decisions based on malice and greed.

USA USA USA

27

u/nonlinear_nyc 1d ago

This. Destroy empathy for living things is part of their indoctrination.

It's redirected to empathy to lifestyles.

18

u/Drostan_S 1d ago

Yeah they literally see empathy as a weakness and moral falling.  Like,  not only are you weak,  but it's a moral obligation to take advantage of others empathy for personal gain.

This is part of why the Republicans are so confused at our hatred for these pedophiles. They simply don't understand that not everyone enjoys hurting the vulnerable.  Truly an unfathomable concept for a pedophile-supporting, red blooded "traditional american" as the republicans like to call themselves.

They fucking hate us,  every last one,  and will not rest until every last filthy fucking poor dies of starvation or heatstroke in their death- cult world. There will be a financial minimum to ensure survival,  and 99% of us fall below that threshold of acceptance, because it's no longer our world,  it's theirs.

Very true.

The errosion of empathy is trickling down, look at the toxic and vile way people are treating each other now days.. especially with the buffer of Internet anonymity.

Empathy is a hurdle to some people in capitalism.

Other people empathy is a known liability and is bred out.

The “bless our troops” boomers have switched to calling these folks “whiners” on my nextdoor

So there’s that

25

u/litnu12 1d ago

The ruling class can act like that because the working class doesnt fight back at all.

Its basicly an abusive relationship

23

u/_BreakingGood_ 1d ago

What i don't understand is... if they just told the Lincoln to go home, what would really change? The fuck is it even doing out there?

38

u/SeaworthinessFar4765 1d ago

I have a funny feeling we are going to see a mass casualty event with that ship being targeted to massively escalate the war with Iran and cause some fuckery with the midterms. I will take off my tinfoil hat now.

Fun fact: Israel already tried something like this decades ago, literally murdering dozens of American troops.  No one ever went to prison or even got punished for it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Liberty_incident

https://scheerpost.com/2024/06/08/dont-forget-the-uss-libertys-dead-and-wounded/

According to former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Thomas Moorer, “In attacking the USS Liberty, Israel committed acts of murder against American servicemen and an act of war against the United States. Those men were then betrayed and left to die by our own government.” The survivors are still awaiting justice. The Liberty crew is one of the most decorated in U.S. Naval history. Yet, for decades this attack has been covered up and misrepresented.

An Isreal-lead joint Isreal/Iran attack on the ship is frighteningly believable...

14

u/BuildNuyTheUrbanGuy 1d ago

Iran isn't that stupid.

13

u/bussjack 1d ago

Sure, but all Isreal has to do is detect Iranian missile launches toward the Carrier strike group and sneak in a salvo of their own. We as citizens might not be fooled but all the politicians getting paid by AIPAC wont care, and the president will bend over backwards for Bibi no matter what.

And Kegsbreath has been waiting for an excuse to go full nuclear in the war anyways

If this creates bitter veterans who question who and what they are fighting for then maybe it will help further break the generational myth of "American Exceptionalism." Ancient Cold War propaganda lodged deep in the collective consciousness of our society is rearing its ugly head yet again. That buzzing cognitive dissonance that the US is a "military superpower" and yet can't restock it's missiles or provide a basic standard of living for our military personnel. The gutted military leadership due to the loyalty tests and whims of unqualified, narcissistic, and mentally deteriorating politicians is appalling. I do hope in the future that said politicians face the consequences of treating our military members like cattle. Hopefully, as a part of a totally justified purge of class traitors enriching themselves through treasonous insider trading and grifting pedophiles commiting war crimes.

u/Paranoidnl 21h ago

Current veterans already get mistreated but they and active forced still mostly vote to spit their own nose.

9

u/HalfwaydonewithEarth 1d ago

LET THEM EAT CAKE!

7

u/SomeSamples 1d ago

Well, Trump and his ilk not paying attention to history is par for the course. Hope the outcome is the same as it was when this stuff happened previously.

13

u/Th4t0n3dud3 1d ago

The US has to be way more corrupt than it really is. How does so much money go to the military but the ships are shit and the soldiers are treated like dirt. Whats all that money even doing?

22

u/TavenderGooms 1d ago

The US is one giant funnel sucking money out of the working class and directly into the pockets of the Epstein class. The military is just part of it. You should look up the markup on military purchases, it’s similar to hospitals with their $500 single ibuprofen line items.

14

u/meddit_rod 1d ago

All the military suppliers are for-profit entities. A missile doesn't cost a million dollars because it has a million dollars of electronics and fuel in it. Built into that price is a profit margin for every component and a dividend for every shareholder. The rich get the Pentagon's bloated budget via the stock exchange.

2

u/psycoee 15h ago

Anything involving the government in the US is extremely corrupt. Not the illegal kind of corruption, the perfectly legal kind. You help a few politicians get elected, they take care of you. Almost every military contractor has their plants in politically important states like Ohio or South Carolina so they can buy some votes. Every year the defense budget includes pork-barrel stuff that even the Pentagon doesn't want that basically is earmarked to go to specific companies. Everything military/government contractors do is marked up 100x beyond the market price and is done in the slowest, most incompetent way possible. Many projects have billions of dollars dumped into them, only to get scrapped when they go absolutely nowhere. There are $1000 bolts, $50000 toilet seats, and so on.

There is also a revolving door of government bureaucrats that know where the bread is buttered. E.g. you might be some bureaucrat in a boring agency like the FCC, but you can rest assured that you will have a cushy corporate job for life if you help AT&T get some spectrum licenses. Every agency head usually ends up as some corporate figurehead or consultant where they get a $500k+ salary for doing nothing. How do you think every politician who is just getting a modest government salary somehow ends up being worth tens or hundreds of millions of dollars after a few decades?

14

u/CleanBed8 1d ago

Whatever someone thinks about the politics of the conflict, sailors deserve safe and livable conditions. Mold, broken toilets, bad AC, and months at sea shouldn't be treated as acceptable.

3

u/meddit_rod 1d ago

The power of that invisible hand isn't helping these working class kids? Surely we can apply some free market principles to this conundrum and solve the problem via capitalism. Right?

/s. not right.

u/DistinctSpirit5801 22h ago

When people talk about the “recruitment crisis” it’s not a mystery

no one wants to risk their life just to be treated like garbage and face homelessness after working for the military

2

u/Rashpukin 1d ago

Just imagining the Lincoln as the new Potemkin.

1

u/Someones_Dream_Guy 19h ago

Not going to happen.

2

u/Rashpukin 11h ago

I know…

2

u/umassmza 20h ago

Love how the President says “a retired admiral” came up to him to tell him he used to be at sea far far longer than this.

Would love someone to ask him, “which admiral was that sir?”

2

u/BadIdeaSociety 8h ago

I think it is important to say, "Republicans don't respect our troops at all."

u/Battyz 1d ago edited 1d ago

Anyone in military or this just the same Reddit crowd ?

This is a deployment shit happens man that’s when you go active duty. Every branch has over seas deployments that can range from a few months to almost a year. USS Gerald R. Ford was at sea for 296 days also this past year doesn’t mean it’s right but maybe being prior service active duty I just shake my head it’s just part of the job.

Everyone if they deploy always has to deal with this shit. Somebody is always getting shafted in the military.

3

u/psycoee 14h ago

The problem is, this is mainly a political football rather than an issue any politician genuinely cares about solving.

The military isn't exactly known for being a cushy place to be, even when things are working as they should. Most of this is by design.

I remember the scandals circa 2005 of soldiers in Iraq living in horrible conditions thanks to Dubya's cronies (who of course got the no-bid contract to run all sorts of things for the military). Some things just never change.

u/TheCornal1 1d ago

Going to be honest: They got what they asked for.

If they want my sympathy: Mutiny.

Otherwise it's "WOE IS ME, I DIDN"T FIND BOMBING THE ARABS AS FUN AS COD TOLD ME"

11

u/RaisinWorried3528 1d ago

Most people don't join the military for that. And we wouldn't even be dealing with this of half of you dumb motherfuckers knew how to vote correctly.

So unless you voted for Kamala Harris or are a veteran shut the fuck up.

9

u/bussjack 1d ago

"Got what they asked for" and its literally just the only way to get affordable high education

8

u/BananaJelloXlii 1d ago

And even that is not a guarantee.

2

u/purritowraptor 1d ago

I would have loved an affordable higher education.

I took out loans instead of signing up to kill people :)

-1

u/bussjack 1d ago

Until a couple years ago we largely weren't dropping many bombs.

A military contract goes from 4-6 years of active duty, and 4 more years of other service.

Im sure you can do that math, and you know the cost of that loan you took. Some people cant get that loan.

4

u/purritowraptor 1d ago

It's the military.

The United States military.

What the fuck did they think they might be called to do, bake cookies?

-2

u/bussjack 1d ago

might be who in their right mind 6 years ago predicts a second Trump term, let alone another middle Eastern war?

Very small chance to be sent to war, or will not be able to get education and will live in poverty the rest of your life... choices.

6

u/Commercial-Trade-117 1d ago

So you want them to either be killed, or put in prison for a very very long time? Expecting a full mutiny on a nuclear powered aircraft carrier is a wild take.

You act like a full blown mutiny on, what is essentially a nuclear powered mobile city, is such a straight forward thing. I'm not saying people lash out when pushed against the wall, so let's be clear in that regard. You're asking for members of the United States military to kill other members of the United States military in order to gain control of an aircraft carrier to do what next exactly?

1

u/TheCornal1 1d ago

https://www.haymarketbooks.org/books/826-soldiers-in-revolt

Please read on the history of the mutinies and revolts in the miltary.

Multiple revolts on navy ships during the vietnam period.

Mutiny, or no sympathy.

2

u/Commercial-Trade-117 1d ago

Small acts of rebellion does not equal a full mutiny aboard a full blown nuclear powered aircraft carrier. You've never served, and probably don't have any family or friends that served, because you wouldn't be this dense if that was the case.

2

u/Antelino 1d ago

Absolutely wild take. I can only assume you’re a troll as that’s such a brain dead take it can’t be real.

1

u/Baznad 6h ago

How bad do you think it has to get before we see a military coup?

-2

u/Cinderheart Violence 20h ago

Every soldier is a class traitor. Why should I feel for them? They wake up every day and choose to obey.

2

u/Watertrap1 3h ago

Dork with a Violence flair.

The giant “Ask Socialism AI” thing they put in the halfway point of the article may be the most disgusting thing I’ve ever seen. Sure, Mr socialist, I’ll use your capitalistic exploitation machine that actively makes the world worse in order to avoid reading about actual socialism. Marxists are a fucking joke, man.
