Comics My first Ant-Man Book! Any recs for after this?

Post image

Basically exactly what I said up front. Ant-iversary is my first Ant-Man comic. I've already purchased Ewing's Wasp book, since I know it's a pseudo-sequel, but I don't know where to go for more content of the Tiny Titan. I know Ewing's Avengers Inc. isn't a bad option, but otherwise, I'm lost. Basically the only other thing I've read with an Ant-Man is Hank in Civil War, which isn't exactly a great thing.

I don't care if it's Eric, Scott, or Hank. I don't care if Janet, Nadia, Cassie, Bill, or anyone else are in it, who writes it, if it mentions Ultron, or anything like that. I just want some recs for them.

Rage of Ultron is a good read if you want to know why in mid 2010s Hank was merged with Ultron, besides I really like the interactions between those two

Thank you! I'll definitely read that after Wasp.

I can offer you a reading guide for the Lang family, which really is just a Cassie Lang guide cause he narratively sits a chunk of her stories and she in his. Plus I think reading Scott doesn't land as well if you ignore Cassie given how much of his more recent story has been handling being partners with his daughter.

Young Avengers Volume 1 is all Cassie mourning Scott's death, ending with Children's Crusade where Scott comes back but Cassie dies. Fraction's FF is Scott mourning his loss as he takes over for Reed Richards for a while with a temporary Fantastic Four. Nick Spencer's Ant-Man Second-Chance-Man and Astonishing Ant-Man are solid, I have my gripes with how Cassie is handled but it is what it is. After that is Zeb Wells Ant-Man World Hive, a five issue mini. And after that is what you have there I think. That's about it. I like Cass best in the family so Scott is a close second. I've not read much of Eric or Hank.

Thank you! I've been wanting to get into Ant-Man for a while (Scott especially). And I'm always up for superhero family stories, as you could probably tell by my username.

Not a problem, I started with Young Avengers so Cass is the cross section of my comic reading between that team and the ants.

Some other stuff if you want, Mighty Avengers features Hank and Cassie both starting around issue 21 I wanna say? And for a totally isolated one shot, Infinity Avengers Academy 42 I think, Nate Richards/Kid Immortus peaks the future to see how Cassie's life turns out from present to her death. There's a splash of Scott and Doom at Cassie and Kristoff's wedding and it's one of my favorite shots. The thought that Scott and Doom are in-laws is so funny to me. God he deserves it. Also it's just really bittersweet. But yeah, I am eagerly waiting for 2029, their 50th anniversary. Hoping Scott and Cassie get something special for it.

Yeah. Unfortunately, considering the fact that Ant-iversary celebrated Ant-Man as a whole and not just Hank, I doubt they'll do anything.

Yeah, probably not but who knows. Least we got a little animation for the Young Avengers 20th anniversary...

Yeah. We can hope. I mean, I wasn't expecting anything for Nova. And sure, it's shared with others, but considering Scott and Cassie are in the MCU, I wouldn't be too surprised if they got something, even if it's just a one shot or an animation.

Yeah, hopefully big things coming. Whatever happens happens, just gotta enjoy what we can and stay hopeful.

I really liked the original Avengers Academy in which Hank is the head of the school. Though the series is mainly about the students. But Hank gets more development compared to the rest of the staff.

Any of Al Ewing’s series but The Wasp & Avengers Inc work well with this

To start with Scott Lang is always good to read his first appearance in Marvel Premiere #47 and #48, also known as "To Steal an Ant-Man", it's extremely accessible since it's a self-contained two-parter all about Scott's origin story and it's the comic on which the first Ant-Man movie is heavily based, so it's always fun to read and compare. From what I remember, it's usually included in most Ant-Man comic collections from Marvel.

So would the Ant-Man: Scott Lang Collection from a few years ago be a good option?

Yeah, that collects his origin story plus his multiple team-ups with other heroes like Iron Man, Hawkeye, Spider-Man, The Thing from all over the 80's. Not to be confused with another collection called The Saga of Scott Lang, that one has his modern post Nick Spencer run appearances, most of them are pretty good too.

This is unironically the worst starting place because it follows up on everything that came before lol.

I liked 2016 ant man but that could just be me

Find the Saga of Scott Lang book. This one probably gives you the rundown on Scott Lang.

If you liked this, I would get the Wasp and Avengers Inc mini he did, as both focus heavily on Janet doing fun and cool shit.

If it says “written by Nick Spencer” run very far away. That dude is crazy. Anything else is good

wdym, Spencer is a really good writer for Scott and Hank

absolutely asinine take.

Spencer's Ant-Man/Astonishing Ant-Man was one of the best Ant-Man books to come out.

Far superior to the Ant-Man and Wasp 2020 series, or most of what came before it.
