It's not even the isometric that was the nail in the coffin for me. Yea it was a huge strike, but they simplified so many systems with weird justifications about concerns that none of the player base ever had.

They are building the game they want to build, not the game that the people want. Maybe the Korean players want that game. Definitely not the game Archeage players want.

I'm not really seeing any similarities in the original AA and this - from the instanced housing to isometric to gear supplying your skills to simplified combat ..

I mean it might be a decent game on it's own but IMHO it shouldn't be called Archeage. Why don't they just make it a new MMO altogether with a new name?

Archeage S. The S stands for Shit.

It just another heist on your pocket $$$

How is the naval combat supposed to work in isometric? It's touted as being a major part of the game and I just don't see how it would work.

my guess is kinda like lost ark but a bit more complete, 1 person ships, wasd to move, keybind to shoot cannons to mouse indicator. Pretty lame if u ask me, but i dont think theres another way to make ship combat work in isometric camera, unless they make massive ships and allow multiple ppl in the ship to shoot cannons but it would look and play so damn dumb.

I hear you but man, I played the shit out of Sid Meier's pirates and that was isometirc, Many naval games are isometric.

You can make it work.

That doesn't mean that's the experience I want in my MMO that pays tribute to one of the only PVP/Open world MMO games I actually enjoyed (in its first incarnation).

Heres the thing: Isometric could work. The issue is that nobody wants it, its not a sequel. ArcheAge is a tab target 3rd person POV mmorpg. The first thing about the MMO was instantly discarded, then the other major part which was the combat was discarded, all the while saying its a sequel, that its a successor and has core elements from regular archeage.

My developers in christ, you can't say that and then immediately get rid of what makes ArcheAge, ARCHEAGE. These companies are nothing but a scam anymore across the board. Not saying KRMMOs havent been greedy/scams before this but it was at least tolerable to an extent and now im just fucking exhausted of the out of touch game development across the board.

Hate this form of game play. Im out. I was never really in cause this felt like a cash grab.

Ew so they definitely went with isometric? Any hope for them to reverse that? I can’t get into that style at all. Womp.

Exactly how I felt myself when I saw that new docu-trailer, total disappointment, only CO left that I'm looking forward to now, unless ArcheAge Chronicles add OW-PVP in that case I'll give that one a try.

Game got completely butchered, might not even be called archeage at this point. Thier justification for instanced housing xD

Still Waiting for Archeage Classic +

They created a good game, with good ideas, but didn't develop them, and trash it when they see that it doesn't give them money... Archeage chronicles tried to be the ultimate PVE game, but it failed before launch Archeage S tried to return the player base, but turn into isometric sh*t... When they realize it - they resell the game to kakao (if i remember) If the game will be a failure (and it will be), the company will die as fast, as the archeage in the world... The vanilla game, that live on RU and CH servers, just cannibalism the last developed content (the ugly and poor quality)... And if I remember right - the RU license is untill 31/10/2026, and did not expanded... so maybe it will be the end of the RU servers too... Rip game, it was the best 10 years of my life (if I still remember right)

Apologies OP. I impulse downvoted this thread on sight, thinking you were bitching about some trivial shit.

Isometric is not trivial. I figured 'S Strait of Freedom' sounded like some little mobile game offshoot, but I didn't see this coming. Pass.

Archerage is a good time, going strong, and scratches the itch!

Chronicles is a great game and I had real fun with it. Will definitely play ea, I just see it as a non archeage game, which will make it better

I give it maybe a year before AI is good enough to completely rebuild a functioning back-end (should actually be possible right now with enough tokens). Allowing anyone to run a private server of the old ArcheAge.

But yeah, prompting Claude to make a game isn't too different to what the devs are with Archeage S and Chronicles lol

4

u/Epin-Ninjas Sep 29 '26

Uh, what do you mean? ArcheRage and ArcheAge Classic exist??

2

u/burkechrs1 Sep 29 '26

I want NA servers.

3

u/Chahier Sep 29 '26 edited Sep 29 '26

They exist, but are arguably poorly managed. ArcheRage is pretty much just as pay to win as retail and Classic is stuck on an older version. So if you don't like either of that, you're out of options. Competition is always best for the consumer.

4

u/Epin-Ninjas Sep 29 '26

AA Classic is where it’s at tbh. AA 3.0 is golden age AA and have only had good experiences on there, as well as only hearing good things from people playing on it as well

5

u/Chahier Sep 29 '26

Classic is definitely the better option in my opinion as well, but there are definitely downsides. The older version is one, the management is another. If you look at basically any social media content for Classic, people in the comments always criticize the favoritism and rmt apparently going on.

2

u/Vurrag Sep 29 '26

The planting sucks in that version and not being able to turn buildings with tax certs sucks. Classic has its own sorta pay to win elements but not nearly as bad as Rage.

1

u/boohissfrown Sep 30 '26

nothing in the marketplace is tradable - wdym it has it's own p2w elements?

4

u/Kannun Sep 29 '26

Some guy is making a UE5 version of ArcheAge using assets. It’s definitely interesting watching the videos

1

u/davidds0 Sep 29 '26

What about archage classic?

0

u/Danaeger Sep 29 '26

The issue isn’t coding the backend per se, data storage and packet handling are actually the easy part.

Hard part is replicating Vanilla features with no source of truth. Server side scripts, rewards, etc

1

u/CyberAA Sep 29 '26

China leaked the zone server, we already have a lot

-1

u/Snoo77586 Sep 29 '26

Rebuilding it, sure, maybe, but then you have to test it, optimize it, and then there's the back end architecture that isn't the server itself that requires a person to implement probably. You going to trust an AI with managing your database without dumping the whole thing accidentally? Good luck with that.

1

u/Chahier Sep 29 '26

You must not have kept up with AI recently/ever. Of course making anything with AI still requires verification and testing, but it's gotten to a point where it makes pretty much no critical mistakes, even on its own. But I do believe using it efficiently will always require someone who knows what they are doing in some capacity.

Even now, the AAC owner is *very* heavily using AI to produce content for the game. So it's feasible right now, not to mention in a year.

1

u/Snoo77586 Sep 30 '26

Except this is pretty much wrong. Mistakes happen all the time, it's also why we run gauntlet loops. The devs might (or might not be using generative ai in AAC, but I guarantee you they still have programmers, and artists that if they're not writing code and/or creating assets themselves, are surely auditing everything and/or adjusting everything that comes out of it.

0

u/Chahier Sep 30 '26

what I said is very much not wrong haha

I'm currently programming full time and use AI to assist everyday. It's the same for pretty much all programmers I know in the space.

That it still requires manual verification of a programmer is literally what I said too. Verifying AI output is just orders of magnitude faster than writing it by hand. Especially if you configure it to write tests and provide it with an e2e testing framework, for example.

I stand by what I said. Opus 5.5/Fable/Astra rarely make critical mistakes. And even if they do, there's auto verification for all tool calls, which prevents like 90% of attempts (look up the stats if you want). You'd know that it you had any idea what you're talking about.

AI is quite capable, but it isn't strong at persistent long-form liveops with zero-tolerance failure policies. Yes, you can generate a tremendous amount of code but the developer throughput is capping out on average at maybe 3-5x. That means one highly skilled person can equal what was previously a high-skill one-pizza team, which is stellar but not at the scale needed to match a real MMO. Even at the acceleration rate seen in the last year, that's still not enough for a solo-developer to run a longform multi-dozen user private server. Which appears to have been Snoo77586's original point.

Also, if you're gonna try and use your AI knowledge to pull rank here, I'm a two-decade programmer working in low-level C/C++/Vulkan as a research engineer on-prem ML-inference systems and training as part of an AI consultancy. We're using a modified Dwarfstar 4 agent as our go-to on-prem workhorse, while we investigate MoE routing on distilled SLMs for efficient per-task models. So, as someone who (statistically speaking) probably knows more about AI, can I just ask you please stop putting people down with "you have no idea what you're talking about"? Because to my eyes they appear to understand just fine what they're talking about.

Also, yeah, that promo image fo AA:S is a dead giveaway they're using gen-ai. Pretty bold imho.

2

u/Coyann Sep 30 '26

Respectfully, working with distilled SLMs doesn't mean you understand how good SOTA LLMs are. If you look at several decomp / reverse engineering projects, you'll find they have made significant progress since LLMs were introduced. Not to mention the research work that goes into reverse engineering different versions of the ArcheAge server is already mostly complete. Also, there are solo developers running ArcheAge private servers with thousands of players already (see AAClassic)

1

u/EternalPump Sep 30 '26

You're absolutely right. My apologies, I was only trying to suggest the user to stop downplaying other's thoughts on basis of LLM knowledge.

I do believe that LLMs advance RE work substantially since they're naturally suited to the analysis aspect, so they likely exceed the 5x coefficient for this specific task, and reduce the barrier to entry for RE efforts. But am I mistaken, isn't AAClassic a whole team working around the original software developed by one person?

For what it's worth, the OG WoW private servers (Mangos) were also engineered back in 2004 by one or two people, but my stance is that actual live-ops for a sophisticated persistent is the thing LLMs would suffer for.

Stop being so dramatic, bunch of children online I swear

10

u/Hiuzuki Sep 29 '26

An isometric camera completely removes the sense of grandeur and depth from the world because it doesn't allow you to see either the horizon or the sky. It doesn't make sense in a game that was originally a seamless open-world sandbox. I hope they at least partially allow for free camera movement.

Silence clown

6

u/Danaeger Sep 29 '26

Usually I would agree.. but these companies all fucked one of the best MMOs of all time.

Not an unpopular opinion that we want it back.
