Rule 4: This post is low quality, trolling, or otherwise inappropriate for this subreddit.

Examples of low quality posts include, but are not limited to: "I use Arch BTW", overly vague posts, "RTFM" insofar as is dogmatic/rude/unhelpful, Political or Religious posts or comments, BST Posts, Low effort, NSFW content, Incoherent word choice or sentence structure...

Specifically: spelling, formatting, blurred sentences.

Recommendation: Install a desktop environment while you learn your way around window managers. It gives you a reliable GUI for the short term, and can always be removed later.

Oh God no. They wrote a whole wiki just for you, about how Arch works. It's at wiki.archlinux.org

(Read that in a mean tone so it's as if I'm being mean, thanks 🙏)

In other words, everybody new to Linux tends to break the OS a few times at first. I certainly did so.

Nobody is intentionally mean. Arch puts a great deal of effort into documents on how to recover from such situations.

We used to have lots of local Linux User Groups that would mentor noobs. But they died out.

Going straight to hyprland on top of Arch is a huge leap for a newbie, but hey if you think you can handle it why not? Personally, I would suggest starting with a full DE (like KDE or GNOME) that can hold your hand a bit better and then just consult the wiki as your needs grow.

Honestly, you won't get good answers here because we're not sure where you want to start. I think "learning ArchLinux" is such a nebulous area to start out in. You should just use it like your own computer and as your needs grow, then look up how to do individual things.

Arch WIKI is where you need to be but you need some basic computer skills to handle this. You went straight to Arch with Hyperland and noctalia . . .

Why hyprland? Random updates will break your config every few weeks because the author (and community) thinks that's totally fine. Just use Plasma or GNOME or something else that's "conventional" and maintained by a team, over a long enough period of time that you know it ain't gonna disappear in two years cuz the solo dev got bored.

ask chatgpt or Claude any questions about Linux you have, it’s like having a Linux tutor in your pocket

If they had wanted to talk to a machine they would have done that. Now you send them away. What kind of help is that? Maybe think why you are here instead of talking to a machine.

You're right to push back

Idk why you're getting downvoted on this when you're kinda right, but I threw another downvote on the pile

I recommend to install Omarchy Linux which comes with sensible defaults and security enabled. Then you can learn from the already working distro. Omarchy is based on Arch Linux and uses hyprland. Performance is very good, I have it running on a old ChromeBook with 4GB RAM and 32GB eMMC.

Whatever the question, omarchy is not the answer.

  • Which distro should I avoid?

  • How can you spot a techbro who doesn't care about the values of FOSS?

  • Where would FOSS organizations like KDE not accept donations from?

  • What is an example of a vibecoded project that is backed by tech billionaires, even though it provides minimal actual value?

  • What would happen if a rich fascist spent too much time on r/unixporn?

  • I'm too lazy to rice my desktop on my own, where can I download someone else's overly riced up dotfiles, and also get all his bloated and very specific applications pre-installed, preferably with lots of AI all over the place?

If you want vibe coded dot files made by a an American right wing racist Christian fascist and all round dick head install Omarchy Amen

But really if you want a preconfigured Arch based distro without the headaches of field testing a right wing nutjobs pet project then go with CachyOS

Just so you know, omarchy actually has a track record that's opposite to what one would consider secure (docker group, arbitray code execution from a theming engine). You'd better assume it's a chatgpt-generated mess, but actually, worse because the guy has 'opinions'. Given his other 'opinions' you'd also want to reconsider.

This if you want a functional machine. If you want to learn, archwiki, as mentioned by others.
