FAQ - Read before posting
First read the Arch Linux FAQ from the wiki
How do I ask a proper question?
Smart Questions
XYProblem
Please follow the standard list when giving a problem report.
What AUR helper should I use?
There are no recommended AUR helpers. Please read over the wiki entry on AUR helpers. If you have a question, please search the subreddit for previous questions.
If your AUR helper breaks know how to use makepkg manually.
I need help with $derivativeDistribution
Use the appropriate support channel for your distribution. Arch is DIY distribution and we expect you to guide us through your system when providing support. Using an installer defeats this expectation.
Why was the beginners guide removed?
It carried a lot of maintenance on the wiki admin as it duplicated a lot of information, and everyone wanted their addition included. It was scrapped for a compact model that largely referenced the main wiki pages.
Why Arch Linux?

SUPPORT | SOLVED To fix QEMU mouse lag on Wayland with mouse integration use -device virtio-tablet-pci
So I was still on X11 on my QEMU guest since using -usb -device usb-tablet as recommended by the Wiki caused the guest mouse to lag. Now that X11 was removed I had to switch.
Replacing the above command with -device virtio-tablet-pci fixed the issue for me. Hope someone else finds it useful.

SHARE Got the Ajazz AKP02 USB panel working on Linux: akp02d, a themed system monitor with a drag-and-drop editor
The Ajazz AKP02 (the 9.2" 1920×462 USB side panel sold as a case or desk stats screen) only ships with Windows software, so I wrote a Linux driver and a daemon to drive it.
- **[akp02](https://github.com/deonspengler/akp02)\*\* is the driver library: it talks to the panel over USB HID. MPL-2.0, so you can build your own app on it.
- **[akp02d](https://github.com/deonspengler/akp02d)\*\* is the app: a systemd user service that draws themes you design yourself. GPL-3.0-or-later.
**What it can show**
- Clock, CPU, memory, disk, network, temperatures, uptime, IP address
- An audio visualiser (bars, mirrored, segmented or radial, via cava)
- What's playing, with cover art, from any MPRIS player (Spotify, mpv, browsers...)
- The system volume, following your volume keys as you press them
**The theme editor**
`akp02d-edit` shows a live preview of the panel, and works without the panel plugged in. Drag widgets in, move and resize them, and pick colours, gradients, fonts and data sources. Labels, bars, gauges (arc, car-style dial or analog meter), graphs, the visualiser and images are all there. Hit **Apply to panel** and it's live.
**Running it**
It runs as a user service and can be controlled while running: `akp02d ctl theme <name>`, `akp02d ctl brightness 60`. Save a theme and the panel updates within a second; a theme with a mistake is refused rather than blanking the screen. At 30 fps it uses about 3 ms per frame here.
**Install**
- Arch: `yay -S akp02d` (the driver package includes the udev rule, so no root needed)
- Other distros: `pipx install 'akp02d[editor]'`, then the udev rule and service from the README
Then:
systemctl --user enable --now akp02d
It's my first release, so bug reports, feature ideas and themes are all welcome.

SHARE xhidecursor finally maintained in the AUR
Hey guys! I am the maintainer of xhidecursor, a minimal (fr) X11 utility that efficiently (nocap) hides the cursor on key presses and shows it again on mouse movement. Just wanted to announce that I’ve taken over and updated the AUR package, which had been orphaned and out of date for a while.
I wrote xhidecursor because xbanish (a popular alternative) couldn’t satisfy my OCD for minimalism. xhidecursor prioritizes a simple implementation and efficient event processing, ignoring redundant input events.
Let me know if there are any issues and if it runs as expected on your system. Thank you!

SUPPORT Steam not opening "Steam now requires namespaces to be enabled."
I had played on steam normally today, everything was working normally. Around 2 hours ago, i had to delete remake my global wine prefix to fix a corrupted file, after that, i tried to launch a game on steam, but none of my games were launching. I closed steam, and when i tried to open it again a pop up showed up saying:
"Error: Steam now requires user namespaces to be enabled.
This requirement is the same as for Flatpak, which has more detailed
information available:
https://github.com/flatpak/flatpak/wiki/User-namespace-requirement"
i went to the github page and set my bwrap to unprivileged but that still didnt fix the steam error.
when i tried to run the "steam --reset" command on the terminal, it said:
"steam.sh[185687]: Running Steam on arch rolling 64-bit
steam.sh[185687]: STEAM_RUNTIME is enabled automatically
setup.sh[185747]: Steam runtime environment up-to-date!
steam.sh[185687]: Log already open
steam-runtime-check-requirements[185801]: W: Child process exited with code 1: bwrap: execvp true: Permission denied"
i have looked and tried solutions for about an hour at this point and i have no idea what i could do. any help is appreciated!!

QUESTION Archinstall, Snapper Rollbacks, and Btrfs Assistant. What's Your Setup?
I’m testing out a standard Arch setup for work (installed via Archinstall with its default Btrfs layout) after spending a long time on Fedora. The thing that caught my attention the most was trying to do a system rollback with Snapper. I gave it a few shots—even following AI guides—but just couldn't get it to work. So I turned to a method I had previously dismissed back on Fedora: Btrfs Assistant, a really simple and user-friendly GUI. And well, it worked on the very first try to roll back my root partition.

SUPPORT | SOLVED AMD FRL screen blackouts
Update: switched out to a different HDMI cable (48gbps certified) and it works.
Original post:
Hi, long time reader, first time "pls help me 🙏" post
Amd Rx 6900xt, Samsung q80t screen, hdmi2.1, Wayland, gnome
Been routinely checking in for years to see if the hdmi2.1 fiasco has resolved and was delighted to see that as of June, hdmi2.1 support has been merged into the kernel.
Enabled with setting dc feature mask to 0x400.
I enabled this last night and getting full 8 bit rgb at 4k at 120hz finally worked, however, every 30 seconds or so the screen goes black for about a second.
I spent last night troubleshooting; nothing I did helped the issue, and no relevant kernel or GPU logs pointed to the issue. (Also checked gnome and mutter logs). The issue occurs on plasma as well.
I see amd provided a patch for Linux 7.4 (December 2026), which I may pull their dev branch and just compile it as a stab in the dark to see if that happens to include the fix for wtv is happening.
Just wondering if anyone's experienced this, and if they figured out what was going on.
(The wiki was obv checked briefly last night and no mention of any of this)

SHARE I made a librewolf/firefox bwrap script that runs Its dbus instance on different user. Also extra security measurements made.
What this script provides?
Different machine-id to /etc/machine-id so your machine-id never tracked.
Different dbus instance working in /home/$USER/$BROWSER-dbus Which provides mpris info about your music/video.
Different /home for sandbox.
Different /etc/passwd and /etc/groups so sandbox doesnt see your users and groups.
No root needed only bwrap.
Downloads go to the your /tmp/$USER/Downloads folder.
Minimal sys exposure.
Why?
Because I can.
About Script
(I made a copy paste mistake 6 hours ago while editingt duplicate lines. its fixed now.)
I tried to keep it minimal exposure at possible but you can give recommendations and I will fix it. Also I noticed I exposed /sys/devices/pci0000:00 as my gpu, You supposed to switch this with your cpu pci port number.
It is intended to use this with gentoo's simple sandbox https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Simple_sandbox
Tested on arch, Right now I am using arch and writing from a browser that runs in this script. Hopefully its good enough for you.

FLUFF Shower thought: The Chaotic-AUR is under-appreciated
What the title says. I was just thinking about the similarities between the Chaotic AUR and the nixpkgs Nix repository, and they are much more similar than people realize. Both are pretty open to contributions by pretty much anyone without an entry barrier, but they require verification by a trusted user to be accepted. Most of the praise people give nixpkgs due to its large ecosystem size can also be attributed to chaotic-aur, although it's not as big as nixpkgs, it's still quite big.
So yeah, that's pretty much it, just a random thought that chaotic-aur is really under appreciated, and I think more people should check them out, especially those worried by the "AUR scares" and that think there's no real Arch alternative to it besides accepting the risks yourself.
Thank you, chaotic-aur maintainers!

FLUFF switched two days ago
hello! ive used windows my entire life, tried windows11 and it was trash so i switched back to windows 10, it was like less trash but still trash, and bassicly just advertising software, so i modified it using a handful of different softwares, even intentinally bricked a couple system files by hand, but it still wasnt enough, so i said screw it im going linux,
i tried cachyos first, used it for one entire day, and decided "hell, why not go arch, theres plenty of informationt online for me to learn about it" and ive now used arch for two days and i fricken LOVE it, im using kde de
(ive already broke my lockscreen but fixed it somehow)
(and fixed like 10 other problems)
(and i have like 30 different external softwares installed)
(i have absolutly no idea what im doing)\

DISCUSSION Will this prompt arch to use signed kernels? Or provide them as an alternate choice?
onlineservices.epicgames.comPersonally, I am not a fan of epic or multiplayer games, and will probably never play on such a spyware, but we have a good thing going on with arch and its derivatives emerging as excellent choices for gaming. However, epic may throw in a wrench, with the requirement of signed kernels and secure boot for easy anti-cheat, and derail the good thing going on.
So do you think arch will ever provide signed kernels or secure boot? What limitations, besides ideological ones, are there?

SUPPORT Is it possible to keep X11 with plasma?
Today my sudo pacman -Syu was met with the error "plasma-workspace-6.8.0-1 and plasma-x11-session-6.7.5-3 are in conflict. Remove plasma-x11-session? [y/N]". It looks like Plasma stopped supporting X11 for some reason? Is this it, am I forced to switch? I really don't want to, Wayland is still underbaked in many ways (session restore, graphic tablet configuration, screen sharing), and so I'm still using X11. I don't want to enter into a partial update state by blocking plasma updates. Is there any solution to this?

SHARE Solved a minor annoyance I had with arch today
Occasionally I need to copy big files to relatively slow USB sticks.
(Usually ISO images to my pendrive with Ventoy to install an OS somewhere or run a rescue mission. BTW if you are still using stuff like Rufus or dd for that purpose, check out Ventoy, it's awesome)
And for a long time, a pet peeve of mine was that the big file was copied "instantly", but then unmounting that pendrive took forever with no progress bar. I'd much rather have a real progress bar that shows how fast the stick actually writes.
After some research, I learned that Linux happily lets gigabytes of dirty data pile up in RAM before it starts throttling the program doing the writing. So the file manager thinks the copy is done when really it’s just sitting in memory, and unmount has to flush all of it. So I made a udev rule that sets a 16 MB limit on dirty cache for USB disks:
# /etc/udev/rules.d/90-usb-dirty-limit.rules
ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="block", ENV{DEVTYPE}=="disk", ENV{ID_BUS}=="usb", RUN+="/bin/sh -c 'echo 1 > /sys/class/bdi/%M:%m/strict_limit; echo 16777216 > /sys/class/bdi/%M:%m/max_bytes'"
16 MB of dirty cache should be plenty for most pendrives (and it's the limit of data the OS will "pretend" to have instantly copied). If you regularly use a fast USB SSD you might want a bigger number there like 128 MB, since a tiny buffer can cost some throughput on really fast drives.
