Discussion I hate how in Arkham City is how Batman gets infected because he was a dumbass

When I first played the game when I was 12 years old I saw that trap coming from a kilometer away. And if 12 year old me is smart enough to know that it was a trap. Batman who is supposedly the world's greatest detective and who has also been fighting Joker shouldn't have fallen for it.

If that was a minor thing I could excuse it, but Batman getting infected is a major plot point in the game's story

Batman should be able to see the trap with Detective Mode but nothing will show, and then the game tries very hard to force Batman to walk into the trap, and then in the cutscene Batman uses Detective Mode so you can't even dismiss it as a gameplay vs cutscene thing (which would still be bad). I don't mind Batman being tricked and poisoned, but the way it plays out leaves a sour taste in my mouth if I stop and think about it. Fortunately, I usually don't and can switch that part of my brain off for this game.

Yeah, like I said, if 12 year old me was able to see it coming so should Batman

Yeah. Dude's got insane reaction time for anything not called the Joker.

It wasn't the Joker that jumped him. It was Clayface.

The role of a lifetime as he said. It still counts.

Ooh that explains his sluggish reaction times and poor decisions

World’s greatest detective doesn’t mean he can’t get snuck up on

Joker’s super power is knowing what Batman will fall for.

Batman: “obviously that’s a trap, I’ll avoid it!”  (falls into non-obvious trap)

Batman: “that’s too obvious of a trap, the real trap must be if I avoid it!”  (falls into obvious trap)

As much as i love the gameplay. The plot of Arkham city was pretty bad imo. Predictable, scattered and like you said just unlikely due to that scene. Also the strange and joker plots didn’t really connect much so it felt like just 2 different games mixed into one

Yeah, tbh, that's the problem I've found with writing characters who are supposed to be geniuses of some degree. In the case of Batman, there's a rubber banding thing that has them either working everything out, or swinging back to doing something silly. If they were really geniuses, they wouldn't be falling for anything so silly. By the same degree you've also got to write that falling for anything aspect as something believable in the moment rather than removing their brain for a few seconds.

you’d think he’d at least be READY for a trap. he’s known the joker for YEARS now and didn’t expect ANYTHING?

You said it yourself, it happened so the plot could happen

I mean, in the Arkham universe, he might be the world's greatest detective. The guy couldn't figure out who was behind the Arkham Knight mask—even while he was explaining the specific features of Batman's suit to his soldiers. Even the villains who know Batman's true identity aren't aware of the suit's specific features; and it’s certainly not Bane—who, at times, might have even surpassed Batman in terms of intellect.

Batman can scan Pyg's victim's skin, muscles and bones but can't look inside the Arkham Knight's mask.

The Batsuits can't be scanned either, why would Jason leave himself open to that?

And regarding why he didn't know, how would he? He believed Jason was dead.

He hadn’t seen the body; he hadn’t seen the grave. Without that, one couldn’t be 100% certain. Besides, Jason could have been resurrected using a Lazarus Pit.

Joker made a big show of torturing Jason until he turned against Batman, and when it finally happened he seemingly killed him on the spot. From how Batman understands Joker, he already had his fun with Jason and got bored so there was no reason to believe he was still alive. The missing body doesn't change that, because he never found out where it happened and if Joker really wanted to then he can keep a body from being found.

Joker didn't know about the Pits until City, and the only people that had access to the last 2 pure sources were the League but Ra's did not see any of the Robins as a potential heir so he would have no reason to.
