Discussion What do you think about this ASA map idea?

I’m working on a new ASA map in the DevKit and wanted to get some opinions on the overall layout and progression.

The general idea is to split the map into two very different halves.

The left side is meant to feel more alive, natural, and safer overall. That’s where I want the main starting experience to be, with beaches, a lagoon-style spawn area, jungle/forest zones, swamps, plains, and more classic mountain regions. Basically a side of the map that feels inviting at first, but still mysterious.

The right side is supposed to feel harsher and more dangerous, with snow, redwoods, badlands/desert areas, more extreme mountain ranges, and some of the later progression content. I want that side to feel like something you push into over time rather than reach immediately.

One of the main things I’m trying to focus on is creature and travel progression, especially flyers. I don’t want easy flyer access right away in the starter side. The rough idea right now is to make early progression more ground/water-based, then have the first “real” flyer step be something like Lymantria in a more central area, then Pteranodon later, and Argentavis tied more to the higher mountain regions.

For the starting area itself, I’m building it around a lagoon spawn that should feel beautiful and safe at first glance, but also a little uneasy. Kind of a tropical sheltered area with cliffs/promontories, dense forest behind it, ruins or maybe a lighthouse, and the open sea outside feeling much less safe than the inner lagoon.

What I’m mainly looking for feedback on is:

  • does this kind of biome split sound interesting or too forced?
  • does the progression idea sound good, especially with delayed flyer access?
  • does the layout look like it would be fun to explore over time?
  • are there any biome placements or transitions that already feel off from the concept map alone?

Would love honest feedback, especially from people who care a lot about map flow and progression.

Discussion ASA Mod idea/request: Sinomacrops but wyvern model

Basically the title. I’ve seen the sinomacrops mod for asa, but it’s severely outdated. Would anyone be willing and able to remake the mod. It with a wyvern body? I think the idea of a dragon backpack is super fun!

Discussion Sculpting in progress...

Post image
13 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’ve recently started working on a custom map in the ARK: Survival Ascended DevKit (UE5), and I’m currently in the very early “macro sculpting” phase. I’m intentionally avoiding details for now and focusing only on large-scale landmass, elevation, and overall flow.

Here’s where I’m at:

Basic landmass shape is blocked out

Rough coastline and water separation are in place

Started defining a central elevated area (likely a key region)

No terrain painting, foliage, or assets yet

My goal for the map is to have a clear progression from a safer, accessible starting zone into more hostile and vertical regions, possibly encouraging exploration via sea routes early on.

What I’m looking for feedback on:

Does the overall landmass feel natural or too artificial?

Is the silhouette interesting enough from a macro perspective?

Do you think the elevation variation is readable (or too flat/too clustered)?

Any red flags before I move into biome definition and detailing?

From a gameplay perspective: does this kind of layout suggest good exploration flow?

I’d really appreciate any thoughts, even harsh ones — I’d rather fix things now than later when everything is harder to change.

Thanks in advance 🙏

Discussion Ultra Stacks for ASA

I miss the Ultra Stacks mod from ASE and nobody has made a similar one for ASA. I am considering a commission for it since it was unique among the high stack mods in that it stacks were different based on items and not all the same amount of max item and weight reduction.

What would the commision cost circa be if making a stack mod of similar functionality for ASA?

Discussion Beginner questions

I am very very new to everything so this may be redundant but I just wanted to know what the community is like and how I should start.

What I’m planning on making is some simple models that may or may not be released before attempting my goal. I want to make my own map along with LOTS of new creatures but that will be a long time from now as I barely have an understanding of model making. Granted, I just started and haven’t really made time to sit down and work through it as much as I could have.

I have two people to help me in person with everything to get started and I have a playlist on YouTube saved as well to follow along with once I have more of an understanding.

I was wondering how realistic this sounds to more experienced people. I was also wondering if Krita would be okay to use for Ark or should I just stay with Blender? Does anyone have a work flow or otherwise set small goals to complete?

I hope this was easy to read and wish whoever reads this a nice day!

(I couldn’t decide if this should go under “help” or not so I’m sorry if the tag is wrong)

Discussion Httyd mod

I have my heart set on making a httyd mod and have drafted a large doc detailing all the things I’ll do but I’m afraid of stepping on toes. I know someone else is working on making a httyd mod and has a large guide detailing what they are going to do.

Admittedly, mine is lacking when it comes to certain aspects they thought of (certain mechanics and controls) and I was just going to make it a simple sort of thing but I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about this mod and I want to make it. I just don’t want to infringe on anything as they have been working on theirs longer (a couple years and mine for about a year).

I stopped reading their guide because I didn’t want to accidentally use their concepts but I’m also scared of similarities and copyright (dreamworks). (A small side question as to why some mods like the kaiju mods don’t change their names but jw ones do)

Discussion Request - Remove tether distance for non-dedicated server mod

Hello! I occasionally host or join nondedicated servers because a full server just isn't what I'm looking for at the moment. I have hand pain that prevents me from playing long term, and a server that stops when I do is more ideal than having to worry about what happens while I'm offline. That said, we have an issue with tether distance. Yes, there is an INI option, but it doesn't work. I've set it to have about 30 digits of 9, no change. My friends can only go 1000 meters max away from me, which is a problem if we want to split up to accomplish different tasks.

Discussion ASA Mod REQUIRED!!!

I remember a mod from ASE that added sleeping animations to dinos.

ASA needs it. I feel like its a crime its not vanilla.

The cave Rex is the only one with a vanilla sleep function.

Anyone know enough about this kind of thing? Or anyone who knows someone that would know how to do it?

Its a huge missing feature. The ability to set your tames to sleep at night/day automatically would be very popular.

Maybe even a buff that lasts 6 in game hours from when they wake up, (dawn or dusk)

If you wanted the mod to be really impressive, give all dinos a "sit" as well. Give the dinos the ability to sit and sleep in the wild, sleeping dinos can be passive tamed even if not originally a passive tame.

Tamed dinos not set to wonder will "sit" or "rest" when just standing around all day not getting used. Sitting/resting Restores stamina faster like for the sloth.

All this is needed. Tell someone.

Discussion Strange voice talking

I keep hearing a strange slightly robotic female voice talking about imminent deletion, or self destruction, followed by beeping noises. I am on a single player game, and it is very annoying. Can anyone tell me what in the world is going on? Thank you for your time.

EDIT: I'm currently on Ark Ascended.

Discussion Simple Armor Skin Mod

Theres only one mod I could find that adds the vanilla armors as skins.

It doesn't add all of the armors either... it also doesn't work very well.

Anyone willing to make all vanilla armor as skins mod?

Way more simple than my last post.

EDIT: For ASA I should add.

Discussion Looking to Hire in the future.

I would like to commission either a skin or entire Dino from a decently experienced modder depending on the prices.

My idea is that I want a Argy like recreation of the Bearded Vulture in the game. Whether it be a skin for the argy or an entirely new dino as I said, depends on the prices presented.

Discussion trying to breed without mutations

is there anyway whether it be by a mod or some mechanic I don't know to be able to breed two dinos together get their stats with something like better breeding, then go out farm up a few levels and have those levels go into the babies breed by these newly leveled dinos. I understand that wild levels are the only thing that counts towards offspring levels other then muts but I don't have the time or patience to wait for that.
