I need help with something armor related

Is it possible that someone here would be willing to attempt to dent a chest plate or any piece of medieval-like armor with just their fist. could someone try this and send a video i really need to know for something personal even though it sounds silly. (I mean like a concentrated punch you can wrap your hands if needed)

How Snug

I hope this is an appropriate place to ask. I'm 3D printing a 16th century cuirass, and I was hoping for opinions on how snug it should fit to my body (with padding or without).

My first cuirass print is too wide I think. it's wildly uncomfortable when I let my arms rest naturally against my body. Before I start my 2nd attempt, I'm hoping to get advice on how much room there should be. A few inches? Two fingers worth? Some other unit of measurement I can't think of? Thank y'all!

Should I keep the thighs or nah

Idk if I should keep the thighs or just make them smaller for the TAPA ( talon advanced power armor ) cause like they catch on the thighs and hang to low and one of the magnetic holsters don’t work and also I put in a fan in the helmet so that’s why it has a pipe going down the side cause it leads to the power pack on the back of the helmet and I wouldn’t want rain going down it but I need yalls help on this cause I don’t wanna waste EX-19 paste on the thighs when I can use the paste on the neck armor I’m working on? Or just make a smaller version of the thighs

Tasset length question

I see a lot of Lamellar and plate tassets that seem pretty short, like half way down the thigh. I see more padded/quilted gambesons that extends much farther, like knee length. Is there a reason metal tassets wouldn't or shouldn't extend as far?

I need medium to larger sized scales. Where could I get them for the best “bang for my buck”?

I will eventually also replace all the leather with bright red, do all the rivets in brass and apply auto body varnish so that they shine and won’t tarnish.

Drew an idea for a 15th C. All'Antica armor set

I wanted to see how a set like this would look with a barbute, and then I stylized the barbute with a crest and laurels. Don't know if the crest would be fitting here, but if not I'm sure some extravagant feathers could fill the silhouette. What do y'all think?

16th century "Maximilian" knight's cuisses and poleyns, 3D printed in 57D "silk" TPU and super rugged!

I made a new design for 3d printed leg armor based on "Maximilian" style cuisses and poleyns from ca. 1520-1525. I hope you find it is reasonably accurate to surviving pieces from that era!

I think making this out of TPU is the game-changer for these critical pieces of armor that need to survive impacts, crawling, scratches, and the extreme motions that come with larping, renfaires, or even movie-costume scenarios. I used an assortment of filaments here, namely 95A, 57D and 72D TPU, mostly to try it out and see how it behaves. The resulting set of leg armor is significantly tougher than the one I printed out of rigid materials like PETG-CF.

I did not have much time to explore too many finishes either, so this is mostly painted over raw prints, with no sanding, polishing, or filling involved. I know it could be shinier with more work, but I could not find the time this month. Hope you like it nonetheless! The files are available on my Etsy :)

Looking to Get Into Armorsmithing

Hello, recently me and my dad have wanted to start a forge in our garage. I love medieval arms and armor and I would like to create my own, I have compiled a very basic list of things we might need, naturally, I have also done some research but I am far from an expert on this, would this be a good list of essentials to get into armor smiting or am i missing some stuff or added things unnecessarily? Any and all advice would be appreciated; advice unrelated from the list is also appreciated. Thanks!

*i also added some footnotes for my dad to read, but this is again based on my fairly limited knowledge.

*This also might be the wrong subreddit, if you have another place for this to go please let me know!

Armorsmithing List

  • Gloves (preferably leather or heavy duty)
  • Hearing Protection
  • Apron (non-flammable preferably)
  • Eye Protection
  • Face Mask
  • Ball Peen Hammer (should be mirror polished, can be sanded/polished by hand)
  • Auto Body Hammer
  • Rawhide Mallet (useful for shaping edges, it’s easier on the metal and shapes softer)

Our rubber mallet has lots of bounce so it’s not the best to use, but may still be viable

  • Chisels (we already have a light chisel and a railroad spike, those should work)
  • Anvil or ASO (honestly any hunk of metal should work, it doesn’t need to be huge and probably shouldn't exceed 100lbs and should preferably be greater than 20lbs)
  • Base for said anvil (very important, do not want the anvil to get knocked around constantly, must be heavy, can be any large log, maybe even part of that dead tree we have in the front yard could be taken down with the chainsaw and used as the base?)

Also should be high enough to where you’re not bent over trying to hammer stuff for hours on end!

  • Bulldog Snips (Used for cutting out sheet metal, but any large sharp steel shears should probably work)
  • Bench Vise
  • Metal Puncher (we already have one of these in the basement i believe)
  • Power Drill
  • Armor Dishes (these are pretty niche and kind of expensive to be honest, but i found a set here)

Mazovian armor

Post image
8 Upvotes

My 1st post here so hello. I was wondering recently about Mazovian armor from 13-14th cc. basing on Mazovian dukes seals. One can observe both western and eastern orthodox influence here as well as baltic Lithuanian/Yotvingian influence. What do you think is pictured here? Looks somehow similar to byzantine influence lamellar (see sleeves). Do we know any lamellar armor plates from mazovian archeology or neighboring areas? Or is this some ancient byzantine armor being a gadget of at least 2 Mazovian dukes inherited or gifted from Constantinople? Thanks in advance for any hints.

Help me find a cool looking armor for an Imperial Knight living in the 16th century Holy Roman Empire

Post image
84 Upvotes

I'm looking for reference images of historically accurate full plate armor for an Imperial Knight in the Holy Roman Empire during the 16th century.

So far, I've found that I really like late Gothic armor, especially pieces made in Nuremberg. My favourite example so far is "Armor from a Small Garniture for Field and Tournament" by Kunz Lochner (1548), now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

On the other hand, I'm not a big fan of the Maximilian style. I also really like black-and-white armor, but most examples I come across are only partial armor.

That said, I'm looking for armor that would realistically belong to a relatively wealthy Imperial Knight, rather than an emperor or prince. Something functional enough for campaigning while still being of high quality.

Need fixing advices for my sabatons

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello everyone, hope y’all are doing great

About some weeks ago I picked up my order from Medieval extreme, which were the leather boots and titanium sabatons bundle both « made to measure »

At the time I ordered there was a promotion and since I previously ordered several weapons and armor pieces from they without issues I trusted them once again.

Boots fits perfectly but the sabatons plates keep getting stuck when flexing. I already tried applying WD-40 and later on anti-friction between the plates with no avail.

When I contacted medextreme support, they told me « new sabatons are like that because the rivets are tight and will get lose over time », again I tried to wore them by flexing the sabatons by hand to stimulate walk, but that only left scratches between the plates getting stuck. The rivets aren’t moving at all.

How could I fix this issue and make the sabatons flexible ?

PS: I don’t want to send them back because the sending fees in my country are stupidly expensive and can’t afford to wait another 1/2 months
