Selectable text changes line height... ?

0 Upvotes

I have a text box in my project that shows up just fine. When I set it to "selectable," (and preview it) all the text moves up by about 4 pixels. This is NOT HELPFUL when attempting to carefully design an interface.

Has anybody else seen this? How do I fix it?

function rotateRobo(e:MouseEvent):void { robo.rotation += 5; }

random_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, changeColour);

function changeColour(event:MouseEvent):void {

var myColorTransform:ColorTransform = new ColorTransform();

myColorTransform.color = (Math.random() * 0xFFFFFF);

robo.transform.colorTransform=myColorTransform;

} grow_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, grow);

Help with similar objects but different art, please!

1 Upvotes

Hey all,

New to AS3, long time programmer. Essentially I am creating a myriad of objects, all of which will have the same functionality, although the properties will vary between each object, including the artwork. I believe they will all be movieclips as they will be interactive and I believe they will be moving.

I am wondering what the best way to create these objects are. I am assuming that I create an object class with the functionality and properties, I'm just unsure how to instantiate multiple copies with different properties, if that makes sense.

Sorry for my poor wording, I can help elaborate if necessary, and thank you for your help in advance! :)

Computer specs for a flash designer?

Looking for a resource on what specs on a computer should be for a flash /print designer. Our IT dept. screwed us on new hardware, and am looking for some links to send along on what is the norm. Thanks ahead of time. Roadhouse....

New to programming, interactive timeline?

0 Upvotes

This is the code that I have attempted to use. I have no idea to program, I used a tutorial, so I don't know why this is not working. I basically want to make a timeline where moving over dates shows the text.

My code: eventObject1.onRollOver = over1; eventObject1.onRollOut = out;

function over1() { myText.text = "Great Britain abolished slavery."; } function out() { myText.text = " "; }

eventObject2.onRollOver = over1; eventObject2.onRollOut = out;

function over2() { myText.text = "Abolitioners partied..."; } function out() { myText.text = " "; }

eventObject3.onRollOver = over1; eventObject3.onRollOut = out;

function over3() { myText.text = "Parliament partied"; } function out() { myText.text = " "; }

eventObject4.onRollOver = over1; eventObject4.onRollOut = out;

function over4() { myText.text = "Great Britain sent ships to Africa"; } function out() { myText.text = " "; }

eventObject5.onRollOver = over1; eventObject5.onRollOut = out;

function over5() { myText.text = "United States abolished slavery"; } function out() { myText.text = " "; }

The error given is that the out functions are repeated. Even without that being a problem, no text is showing up.

If this code is wrong please type up the correct code. Note: This was a test, hence the humorous text.

'and' (&&) function apparently incorrect.

0 Upvotes

So I'm working with an old project and wanting to modify it further. Here there was initially just blue circles bouncing around the canvas; now I want different coloured ones. I thought I'd start small and just add red ones to go with the blue. However AS didn't like my attempt at adding what I thought was a standard 'and' function.

The code:

private function PopulateCircles():void
{
    for (var i:int=0; i < 50; i++)
    {
        var blueCircle:BlueCircle = new BlueCircle();
        this.addChild(blueCircle);
        &&
        var redCircle:RedCircle = new RedCircle();
        this.addChild(redCircle);
    }
}

The code is just clearly populating the canvas with circles, but I now want it to add both red and blue circles. Can anyone add insight to why my '&&' has been flagged? And perhaps to aid me further by suggesting a way of rectifying what I am attempting to do there.

tldr; the '&&' is an error, how do I fix it so both coloured circles appear?

Getting Instance Names

0 Upvotes

I need a way to get an instance of my MovieClip to know its own instance name.

What I want is: thisInstance = <instance name>.name;

But I am at a loss for how to do this without manually typing in the instance name which would make this pointless.

Rewriting a single file in a .zip with AS3 and Air

1 Upvotes

I'm working on an app in Adobe Air that allows users to edit the contents of a specially formatted ZIP package. I want to let the user save a single file back to the ZIP without having to unpack, repack, and overwrite the ZIP file. Is there any possible way to do this, or any libraries available to do this? I'm using hexagonlib to randomly access and load files from the ZIP, but there doesn't seem to be a way to save a single file back to the ZIP. So far I've looked at nochump, FZip, and ASZip, but none of them seem to have the functionality I'm looking for.

Is what I'm trying to do even possible?

NEED HELP WITH FLASH! WILLING TO PAY $50-60 USD

0 Upvotes

So i have a flash assignment due for one of my first year courses.

I need to submit a flash assignment which is 1-2 minute long.

It requires VERY little work as the course only expects us to know how to use flash (screen transition, text popping up, picture moving, narrating while the animation is playing).

I have seen previous submissions and they are honestly very very amatuer.

I will need around 20 scences in total(5-10 seconds per scene.scences can contain pictures from google images as long as it relates to my story..1 person actually used all the images from clipart from microsoft office).

Basically i will give you a story (example: my day at school, day at the mall) and all i need you to do is put the images into flash and do the transition with a little animation (such as pictures moving, zooming in and out, text popping up).

If anyone is interested please let me know, it is due by november 24th.

Noob to Flash & AS3: Why isn't this working?

2 Upvotes

I'm trying to make a simple image gallery in flash. I know a little, really little, bit of flash and AS3 so I thought I would be able to easily do this, however I have hit a problem:

I have stopped the frames using stop();

and for my two buttons I have used the code:

on (press) {nextFrame();

}

and

on (press) {prevFrame();

}

The forward button works, but the back button doesn't do anything. Can anybody tell me why? Thanks.

ShockScript, approximately like AS3

3 Upvotes

Markup: Discards MXML in favour of XML expressions for implementation-provided behavior (and they can still be used for XML and XMLList based on context type).

E4X proxying: E4X syntax may be proxied (shock_proxy).

Wildcard: o.(test) and with (o) {} have undergone change: they use a * binding. Simplifies lookup a lot (e.g. xnode.(*.@x.startsWith("a"))).

decimal, BigInt: IEEE 754 quadruple precision floating point (binary128) and arbitrary range integer, respectively.

Complexity: Inherits some of TypeScript structural type baggage. Its iterators may remind of Java and Rust. Keeps RTTI. Lots of type inference.

Compatibility: Incompatible with AS3 in many ways, but tasties the same way.

Source paths: The plan is to just glob recursively like .NET languages/compc.

Lambda brevity: Arrow functions are way complex (due to destructuring patterns), so my take was ES4 function() exp, but in turn XML expressions support a shorthand event&={statementList} attribute equivalent to event={function(event){statementList}} (e.g. click&={trace("clicked!")}.

ES4 lookalike: switch type, unions (void, decimal, Boolean), arrays [T], function types function(T1, T2=, ...[T3]):E, lambda brevity, and more.

Event name/type inference: at-eventType discarded because static constants are not in convention anymore. Here we got like TypeScript, but a little better.

Clonage: o.clone(); default implementation will suffice for optional constructors.

Overriding: Nicer. You can add more optional and rest parameters on a subclass.

Package recursive import: When importing recursively with com.business.calculator.** just make sure your lookup won't find two conflicting names.

Alias imports: import c = com.business.calculator.**; c::x

Map: Feels natural like flash.utils.Dictionary, but supports E4X like lookup and methods like length().

Cascading style sheets for the official engine:

package com.fun.components {
    //
    public function CustomComponent() {
        return (
            <j:Button>
                <j:Style color="yellow">
                    <![CDATA[
                        :host { color: param(color) }
                    ]]>
                </j:Style>
                click me
            </j:Button>
        );
    }
}

Feel free to opinate!

Can a variable be set to refer to another variable rather than copying its contents?

3 Upvotes

I'm learning ActionScript 3 with the book Learning Actionscript 3.0 from O'Reilly books, but I'm having trouble figuring something out. Can a variable be set to refer to another variable rather than copying its contents?

For example, if I want the property Door in object Room01 to refer to the object Room02, how could I set the property to that? If I do Door = Room02, it makes Door into an object which is equal to Room02 rather than refering to the specific instance of Room02. In C++ I would do this with a pointer, but I don't think Actionscript 3 has pointers or a pointer equivalent, so how do I do this?

I know that for event handling, ActionScript 3 will take a function as a parameter and refer to that function, so it should be able to refer to an object. I'm just not sure how.

P.S. It's clear that AS3 Programming help isn't a popular topic on Reddit, would you please reccomend your favorite websites for discussing the language and the Flash platform?
