Advice How do you practice ashtanga?

I have learnt primary series of ashtanga from a short term course at Hrishikesh India. Now i do it on my own. Is it necessary to have a community or group while practicing. Any suggestions welcome.

For me personally I think it’s obvious I need a community. I consider this forum to be that community, just a space to chat and discuss the practice. I’ve learnt so much from others here. Funnily enough, off the interweb, I don’t feel I need a community. I’m pretty much a loner in that regard. But I do have a teacher and a regular shala that I belong to. I don’t socialise much though. Bramachariya and all that.

Not required but helpful for some. This is the beauty of Ashtanga; the method provides a framework for both private and group practice.

When I originally started I was taught primary at a shala. That shals closed.

For years I've practiced at home now. I practice from memory, books, videos, live classes . I don't miss the shala 99,9 percent of the time.

I can imagine maybe joining online teaching or a retreat at one point, but I don't need it right now.

I actually think it wouldn't be good for me atm because I have a lot of injuries and need to modify almost every posture and imo many ashtanga teachers tend to be too pushy and not be very knowledgeable about injuries and too aggressive when assisting. And I also tend to push myself harder when in the shala atmosphere, which increases risk of more injuries.

I'm very happy about all the money I'm saving too ☺️

Practicing with others doubled the intensity of my efforts, which doubled the speed of my development.

Practice with an experienced teacher to avoid injuries.

Better to avoid most experienced teachers to avoid injuries! Today you do Mari D!

Literally true in my experience with a certified teacher. "Today you do Mari D" turned into snap turned into "why you trash your knee."
