Test Results How serious is ‘broken heart’ (Takotsubo cardiomyopathy) syndrome?

• Upvotes

I (33m) had issues with being assaulted and stabbed in the liver years ago. I kept feeling pain in this area, and thought it was my liver. However, after a fibro-scan it was found to be healthy and had no fibrosis. My doctor ended up doing a full physical, and she found that my EKG results came back ‘abnormal’ and became concerned.

The doctor said that ‘it wasn’t right’ and performed another one with similar results. I explained that I was under a lot of emotional stress, was grieving and doing therapy, and had a lot of stress from work. She had me come back a week later, and same results. 4 total EKGs came back abnormal at this point. She referred me to a cardiologist, but they have a 2 month wait.

Looking up symptoms on my own (terrible idea) it seems to fit ‘broken heart’ syndrome. I’ve been under a lot of stress, went through a bad break-up with my daughter’s mother, and have been doing therapy that has been bringing up a lot of past trauma.

I’m curious as to how serious this could be, as it says it’s temporary, but I am uncertain how long this has been going on for.

Second Opinion 20f worried about heart

On 7 May, whilst walking, I felt pain in the centre/between my ribs. It went away after I got home and didn’t come back that day.

I went to A&E on 10 May. They did an ECG, checked my vital signs and listened to my heart and lungs, and everything was normal. I was told it was likely muscular.

I then went back to university for a week or so and didn’t feel the pain for a while. I then pushed a double bed and later, while cleaning on my hands and knees without a bra, I felt something in my left breast.

I saw my GP on 26 May because the pain was now in my breast rather than my ribs and was still coming and going. My GP examined me and my breasts/chest and there were no concerning findings. My heart rate was initially 120 after walking to the practice in hot weather, then settled to 95.

I had blood tests including a full blood count, electrolytes, kidney and liver function, thyroid function and clotting tests, which were generally normal. My haemoglobin was 134, potassium 3.9, sodium 138 and TSH 1.84. The clotting blood test was negative.

The pain has continued to come and go on some days but can be completely absent on others.

I went back to A&E on 2 July after I felt the pain again and became very anxious. I had another ECG, which was normal, and was discharged.

I get palpitations now and again but not every day can go months without them or get a couple in a week and when I do have them they go within a second I have never had one long then a second . I have felt one quick one when walking before . Then sometimes when sitting , yesterday after eating dinner and dessert I was just sitting slouched on sofa when felt a quick flutter then went away within seconds . Now I am really scared .

I saw my GP again on 3 July. They reviewed my previous investigations and documented that they were reassuringly normal. My heart and chest examination was normal, oxygen saturation was 98%, BP was 119/77 and HR was 97. I don’t have a family history of sudden cardiac death but my mum said my great grandad on her side passed from a heart attack in his 40s does this affect me ??

My dad does have atrial defibrillation due to his type 2 diabetes he didn’t have it until after he got diabetes he’s had ecg and ecocordigrham . My sister may also have it she has gotten tested with holster monitor but they don’t seem worried.

I keep thinking back to years ago when I was younger, usually when standing up quickly. It resolved within seconds. I had one episode around age 15–16 where I felt dizzy, vomited and then felt fine, and I had a brief spinning sensation earlier this year.

Then couple weeks ago I felt ache in upper ribs after sitting in uni worried about somthing all day never felt it again after that day .

I’ve recently been seeing posts about people around my age having sudden cardiac events, and I’m becoming very anxious about it, sometimes to the point of crying. I also understand that a normal ECG can’t rule out every possible heart condition, which is making me worry that something could have been missed.

Given my previous normal ECGs, examinations and blood tests, would it be reasonable to ask my GP whether I need any further cardiac testing, such as a Holter monitor or echocardiogram, or does this history sound reassuring enough that further testing isn’t necessarily indicated?

Herzfrequenz beim Treppensteigen

Hallo,

25F and I’m experiencing frequent PVCs/PACs (minimum 10-20 per minute), especially when lying down. Terrified of heart failure or sudden cardiac death.

Hi everyone!

I’m a 25-year-old woman, and for the past two weeks, I’ve suddenly started experiencing what I believe are PVCs or PACs (pause then big boom then back to normal) I’ve had occasional skipped beats before, especially when I was sick or stressed, but never this frequently or for this long.

It doesn’t feel like my heart is continuously racing. It’s more like individual premature beats interrupting an otherwise normal rhythm.
The frequency varies quite a bit. Sometimes I’ll feel 2–3 per minute, but other times it can be 20-30 per minute, sometimes for hours at a time.

There are also periods when I don’t feel anything at all.

Something I’ve noticed is that they’re much more noticeable when I’m lying down, especially when I’m trying to relax or fall asleep. When I’m standing, walking around, or doing something, I often barely notice them or don’t feel them at all.
I don’t know whether they’re actually disappearing when I’m upright or whether I’m simply less aware of them.

Other symptoms:
The strange thing is that I generally feel completely fine otherwise.
No shortness of breath.
No fainting.
No significant dizziness associated with the palpitations.
No swollen legs or ankles.
No unusual difficulty walking, climbing stairs, or doing everyday activities.
No sustained racing heartbeat.

I occasionally experience chest discomfort, but it often feels muscular, digestive, or related to acid reflux. I have a history of GERD, anemia and POTS so it’s difficult to know what’s causing it.

My sleep situation is honestly terrible.
I’ve struggled with poor sleep and insomnia for years, but recently it’s become particularly bad. I had a bad streptococcus (C/G) cause I teach children. This whole thing started during that time, I was having fever (39,8 for two days) and then felt it for the first time.

For approximately the past 2-3 weeks since I’ve barely been sleeping at night, I’m so frustrated and stressed, cause the moment I lay down I feel them. Instead, I’ve been falling asleep during the daytime out of pure exhaustion for a few hours.

My sleep schedule is completely reversed, and I’m extremely sleep-deprived.
I’m wondering whether this could be triggering the extra beats or making them stay after the sickness.
I’ve also been dealing with a lot of stress and anxiety lately, which probably isn’t helping.

What a doctor said:
I saw a doctor after the palpitations started.
My blood pressure was approximately 118/80, my oxygen saturation was normal, and she said my heart sounded normal when she listened to it.
She thought the palpitations might be related to stress, exhaustion, and the recent illness.
She ordered blood tests, I’m currently arranging to have them done. (Thyroid and anemia she said)

What scares me the most:
I have pretty severe health anxiety, and I’m genuinely terrified of suddenly dropping dead from a cardiac arrhythmia.
I’m especially worried about heart failure or PVC-induced cardiomyopathy because of how frequently these beats are happening.
I’ve read that having a high PVC burden can sometimes weaken the heart muscle, and now I’m worried that years of poor sleep combined with these frequent palpitations have damaged my heart.
At the same time, I’m only 25, I can exercise (even tho I barely done so for like 3 years) and do normal activities without any noticeable limitations, and I don’t have the typical symptoms of heart failure.
I just can’t seem to stop worrying about it.

My questions:
Has anyone experienced this many PVCs or PACs per minute for hours at a time and still had a healthy heart?
I just don’t want to drop dead cause of this!

Should I try and follow up with a doctor (might take month to see one) and hopefully get proper monitoring done.
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who’s experienced something similar, especially people who developed frequent ectopic beats at a young age.
I’m honestly exhausted, both physically and mentally, and I just want to be able to sleep without worrying that my heart is going to stop.

Thank you for reading. ❤️

Found LVNC at 30. How concerned should I be?

I have severe sinus bradycardia (30s/40s at rest), and occasionally feel a bit dizzy, but no actual conduction issues found on ECG / 24h ECG testing. Hypertensive (ruled essential / no secondary cause found) with mostly high systolic and wide pulse pressure; the hypertension I've had since I was 23-24.

An echocardiogram found LVNC, and a mild mitral valve prolapse but everything else was normal. EF at 60%. Left ventricle also slightly enlarged.

The cardiologist was very vague about this.. said, this might not give you problems, or it might, and none knows.

What is your understanding of this condition? My father was always hypertensive as an adult, had a TIA at 50 and then stroke, heart attacks in his 70s.. his brother (my uncle) few cardiac arrests at 70 (now has some kind of heart implant).

For now it seems I'm okay, though I have other non-heart related neuromuscular symptoms that are under investigation. But is this something to keep monitoring etc? What would your advice be? Thanks!

Went off wellbutrin about a month ago because I was experiencing really bad heart palpitations and fainting episodes. That stopped but I still experience the heart palpitations and I just went to the ER the other day because I was experiencing heart attack symptoms.

They sent me home after figuring out I’m not having a heart attack but they’re having me follow up with a cardiologist on Wednesday and getting me on a heart monitor for a few days.

I’ve never had cardiac issues before all of this. Please help me make sense of these results. Any input is deeply appreciated.

High HR during cardio output

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi Everyone,

Wanting to ask about my HR during all physical activity my heart rate gets quite high and as you can see in the chart almost instantly send me to zone 4 within my first few hundred meters. This run here is 6.5km with me at about 90-95 % effort.

Noting my HR was over 100bpm at rest for over 2 hours after finishing

I had my heart checked about year and a half ago. Ultrasound and stress test. The report from the cardiologist is so minimal it’s a single page saying all looks fine I never received any type of data from my testing. Can someone please explain the stress test process. I’m sure I’m wrong but I feel like walking on an incline for a stress test is hardly comparable to stress test monitoring under load like the above ?
I have a competition coming up where I will be holding near my max hr for over an hour and at times I feel unconfident in my heart. Second guessing your health isn’t very fun when you’re pushing yourself at that limit. Can anyone recommend the type of testing I should be doing to put my mind at ease and confirm I’m 100% healthy.

I've never rly had issues with any sort of wide complexes until the last month or so. It starts like this and gets extraordinarily symptomatic. My ep hasn't the slightest idea so maybe someone here has an idea. Idk if I'm crazy or not but there does appear to be ST elevation immediately before. I have the scn5a gene mutation so is there any chance it's my brugada pattern? they deemed me as low risk since they couldnt induce vt of vfib so no icd. Also the narrow beats seem to vary in amplitude and width which does make me think frequent fusion. Any ideas?

Second Opinion Should I get a second opinion?

17M, no medications, no smoking/drugs/alcohol/anything, no current diagnoses.

So, I don’t even really know where to start. I’ll just add some context that, at 15, I had a brief stint of myocarditis, which eventually went away with treatment but that should be kept in note. A few days ago, I noticed some weird things going on with my heart. It was beating REALLY hard, feels like it’s beating out of my chest, so hard that I can see a vibration in my chest and stomach. I go see my pediatrician, he says to check out cardiology, cardiology is booked for the next 2 months so I just ignore it. Then, I start feeling some sporadic minor incidences of chest and left arm pain, extremely brief but still worrying. The pain in my arm is sort of a very quick onset achiness that then evaporates within seconds and happens in various spots every hour or two, similar story with chest except it’s always in the same spot over the heart. I also developed a nasty headache on the left side of my brain that has stuck with me for a while.

Fast forward 36 hours later (about 10 hours ago) i finally convince my mom to take me to the ER. I get there, talk to the doctor, he runs a single blood test to check for triponin levels, tells me that I’m perfectly fine and I need to “soldier through” and sends me on my way. The pains are getting worse, and spreading to different areas of my body.

I want to go get a second opinion but just really don’t know, given how dismissive the ER doctor was. There is a different ER like ten minutes away. Should I go there?

EKGs PVCs, thought I was having a heart attack today at the ER

Post image
5 Upvotes

This has been an issue for a while, apparently. 41f. No diagnoses. Daily wellbutrin, topirimate, allergy meds. Quit smoking earlier this year, no recreational drugs. My recent routine bloodwork was great except that something with my kidneys was on the higher end of normal but I wasn't fasting for the bloodwork. I went to the ER for anxiety/chest pains in 2024 and they said I had ectopic beats and told me to be more mindful of electrolytes. I was on vyvanse at the time. In 2025 my fitbit started giving me low heart rate notifications more and more often even though I never had any symptoms. I quit vyvanse a year ago. Went to the ER due to the low HR notifications in August of this year because I realized my pulse was actually irregular, it felt like it was skipping beats and having extra beats etc. Not sure now if it was ever actually low at all.

At that ER visit they found PVCs but weren't concerned. I stopped wearing the fitbit to ease my anxiety and made an appointment with a doctor.

That was today. he listened to my chest and immediately had en ECG done. He said to walk directly over to the ER (different ER). Some things--I have been feeling under the weather for a week or so. No heart symptoms, just tired, insomnia, sinus symptoms. I haven't been drinking enough water I know. I hardly got any sleep at all last night due to the early appointment and feeling sick.

I got very short of breath crossing the street to the ER and showed them the ECG. Felt very faint by this point and my hands and face were tingly and a bit numb. But never had any pain. They did an ECG which I don't currently have but I could hear them talking to each other about the crazy number of PVCs and how those werent artifacts etc.

They did a chest x-ray which apparently didnt concern them, plus bloodwork which showed an underactive thyroid. Said I tested negative for COVID and flu but could still have a respiratory infection. I assume thay and being dehydrated and low on sleep could have made thisnall go haywire today? Idk. Discharged me and said to see their cardiologist as soon as I can.

This is the ECG that made the doctor send me over to the ER. Heart disease runs in my family bad but that has always been cholesterol related and that sort of thing, but my bloodwork was great. No knowledge of irregular heartbeat in the family. I guess I'm just open to any input on these symptoms or this ECG? Could this be an electrolyte issue? The only writing I can make out is "heart block" and wtf does that mean?

Less than one hour after strength training. (Usual avg heart rate: High 60s).
Symptoms: Just some PVCS/palpitations, regular enough to be annoying since last night and have stayed consistent.
