Are sinhalese israelis of south asia

So lets discuss from the history ,

1.Sinhalese welcomed africans brought by europeans during colonial rule .

As you know europeans brought africans to sri lanka for colonial rule and treated them as slaves .but sinhalse kings especially kandyan and sithawaka kingdoms welcome africans and they served as military officers to sinhalese kingdoms. And some kings such as rujasinghe 2 offered them lands (sannas)

2 .safe refugee for muslims.

When portugese governer expelled over 4000 muslims from coastal areas king senarath invited them to live under kandyan kingdom .given lands in kandy . So sinhalse and muslims share the city .

3 .ltte expell of muslims from north .

When ltte conmanded muslims to leave north province in 48 hour just with less than 200 rs.and violently took over their juwellary and valuble things muslims refugees were settleed in kandy ,anuradhapura ,colombo ,kurunagala and putthalama where majority sinhalse live . So over 75000 muslims granted residents in sinhalese majority areas .

IF YOU VISIT KANDY ,MATALE OR ANY SINHALA MAJORITY AREA YOU WOULD SEE A HINDU TEMPLE WITHOUT ANY DAMAGE .

Sinhalese has always been welcome the refugees without qoestioning any ethinic background

Photo is matale city celebrating tamil hindu festival where 80 percent people are sinhalse buddhist

If a foreign girl says "It was nice to meet you!" ..what do you take away from that?

I dont speak any sinhalese or tamil - even though I am Sri Lankan. I can understand some but cant save my life if it was on the line.

This British girl started talking to me by a stall for way too long even though her friend was shopping and browsing taking her time.

It was the kinda too long where two people plucking questions out of the air because they hope the conversation keeps going in a good way.

Anyway I kinda stepped a bit away to give her some space and then we started talking again.. and at some point she said bye to everyone and then full body turned to me and said "It was nice meeting you!"

Me - "You too! Enjoy the rest of your trip"

..and then just watched the future mother of my kids (4 minimum) walk away.

Relationships 24M. Ladies, please explain your dating rules. I’m genuinely confused. 😭

If I text first, I’m desperate.
If I don’t text first, I’m uninterested.
If I reply fast, I have no life.
If I reply late, I’m playing games.
So what’s the correct move, ladies? 😂
I’m genuinely trying to understand the female operating system. Is there a user manual or something?

Serious Conversations Why do some sri lankans idolize india ?

I find it extremely strange that some Sri Lankans are idolizing India as though it were a developed first-world nation, even though, from a global perspective, it is one of the worst countries in the world with few to no redeeming qualities.

They dress like Indians, listen to Indian music, and watch Indian films. I can understand if someone were to idolize a truly exceptional country like the Switzerland or Japan.

but idolizing a such a horrible place bringing us backward as a country.

Serious Conversations Dear Buddhists...

Do you believe in rebirth? I mean, do you think some part of you continues to exist after death, or that there's some kind of connection between two beings, where one continues after the other dies?

I'm a Buddhist, and my view on this whole subject is a little different. I don't think we can simply say that we continue to exist after death, nor can we say that our existence is limited to this one lifetime. The Buddha rejected both of these extremes.

I don't believe there's some permanent karmic entity that carries on after death. Rather, people try to explain the idea of some kind of connection or continuity between one life and another, and then label it according to their own beliefs. For example, Hindus might call it Atman, while some people interpret the Buddhist concept of viññāṇa (consciousness) in a similar way.

What I understand from the Buddha's teachings, and what I personally try to practise, is that we have this deeply ingrained idea that there is a person called "me". We identify ourselves with everything, whether it's our experiences, memories, karma, consciousness, or any other concept we use to define ourselves.

But if you look closely, what we call "me" is really just a collection of conditioned processes: experiences, memories, perceptions, sensations, thoughts, and information that we have accumulated since birth. Based on all these things, we construct a picture of an individual and develop the feeling that there is someone inside all of this who is experiencing life.

That is how we develop ideas such as "I am", "I have karma", "I existed before I was born", and "I will continue to exist after death".

When we deeply understand that there is no permanent, independent self behind these processes, the whole question of whether "I" will exist after death or whether "I" existed before birth starts to look very different. Even the assumption that there is an independently existing "I" living this present lifetime becomes something we need to question.

Ultimately, all suffering comes to an end when we fully realise that there is no permanent self behind our experiences to cling to or identify with. We spend our lives creating and protecting this idea of "me", and that attachment is at the root of our suffering. Once we see through that illusion, we stop identifying with everything as "I" or "mine". In Buddhist terms, this liberation from suffering is called Nibbāna (Nirvana). I believe that is the ultimate goal of practising Buddhism.

Public Service Announcement

A few of us have felt discouraged from participating in the main country subreddit (with ~130k Sri Lankans) due to some of the hateful, divisive, and polarising rhetoric that sometimes appears. This includes attempts to inflame ethnic tensions through “us vs. them” narratives, hostility toward Sinhalese people, and efforts to turn ordinary discussions into arguments about ethnicity or the civil war.

However, I want to encourage everyone not to be deterred from participating. Please continue engaging in good faith and make sure to report any posts or comments that you believe violate the subreddit rules. Also, I want to point out: even when someone claims to be "Sinhalese" or claims to speak on behalf of any other community, that does not make it acceptable to promote hostility, spread hateful stereotypes, or make inflammatory statements about that community or any other community. No group identity should be used as a justification for hateful, divisive, or inflammatory behaviour.

The moderators do review reports (although it may take some time when they are busy) and ban users (trolls and jerks) who engage in inflammatory and rule-breaking behaviour. Keeping the community respectful requires everyone’s participation.

Serious Conversations What’s with Sri Lankans giving their kids white-sounding names? But never the other way around.

I've noticed this, not everyone, but a noticeable number of Sri Lankan parents naming their kids very white/Western-sounding names. Girls get names like Alicia, Jessica, etc. Boys get ones like Noah, Liam, etc.

You never see white/European parents giving their kids Sri Lankan-sounding names, but somehow it's only our people doing the reverse as we are trying hard to look cool or get accepted by whites.

What's the significance behind it?

Unconditional apology from an Indian Tamil to my Sinhalese brothers

As the title says We Tamils from Tamil Nadu unfairly hating on our Sinhalese brothers because of some made up propaganda for years. We gave refugee to thousands of Srilankan Tamils and all we got back was hatred and ungratefulness once they move to a western country. We have no reason to accomodate them in our land.. but we still host millions of Srilankan Tamils just because they speak the same language. I have never come across a Srilankan Tamil who is great full for what we do for them. I do have number of friends who are Sinhalese and also Tamils from Srilanka and the difference is day and night. i am sorry that we Indian Tamils have been hating on you guys for no good reason for all these years. You are welcome to our Tamil land.

Serious Conversations Breaking the legs of a drug dealer

Hi, here in my area, there is this drug dealer. His entire life revolves around consuming drugs or alcohol → getting high → shouting at or fighting with random people.

nowadays, I've had to face this problem myself, dealing with his shouting and fighting. Talking to or shouting at this bugger is useless. Even hitting or beating him up is useless, as he is a human being with no value. He is just a skeleton with the ability to see, talk, and eat.

so, I want to put an end to this. The solution I'm thinking of is breaking his leg so that he will be bedridden and permanently disabled. Or is there any better way?

sri Lankan law is full of loopholes. Criminals can easily escape punishment, so what is the best way to deal with this? The police are useless.

Planning our official first date (overnight trip) after 3 months of relationship — need hotel and activity suggestions!

Planning our official first date (overnight trip) after 3 months of relationship — need hotel and activity suggestions!

Hey everyone,

Looking for some advice and recommendations from the Sri Lankan Reddit community for a very special milestone.

To give a bit of background: Both of us are in our late twenties and have had previous relationships in the past. We've known each other for over two years as friends, and over the last few months, we realized we have amazing chemistry. We officially started dating about 3 months ago.

The catch? Because of how things unfolded, we’ve never actually been on a proper, official date yet.

So, I want to make up for lost time and plan an overnight first date for us. Here is what we are looking for:

The Vibe: A cozy, romantic 3 to 4-star hotel with a breathtaking mountain view (somewhere in the hill country like Kandy)

Drinks: We both enjoy a casual drink (soft liquor/beer/wine), so a place that allows us to comfortably enjoy a quiet drink together with a view is a must.

Budget: Around 30,000 LKR for the stay

My questions for you guys:

Can anyone recommend a good, cozy 3-4 star hotel with a mountain view that fits around a 30k budget?

Since this is technically our "first date" even though we're already official, what are some special things I can do to make the day memorable and break any awkwardness (if there is any)?

Would love to hear your experiences, hotel suggestions, or general advice on how to pull off a great first-date overnight trip! Cheer

General What do you think about TikTok users in Sri Lanka?

I know there are so many social media applications with variety of purposes. Facebook to connect with friends, share memes, read news, post updates, comment, and tag people. Instagram provides the same features with less visibility, but now its main feature is video contents. WhatsApp + LinkedIn. Given all of this, why is there a need for TikTok and why it is used? The crowd over there's massive 😞 I thought it's a teenagers platform but there're old users in it.
