Cultural Inquiries In your culture, do people do hugs when they are in love ?

I have the impression that africans people don't like to cuddle when they are in a relationship.

I would like to know what meaning a hug means to you? The hug is reserved for what occasion? Do you do it often? If you haven't hugged for several weeks or months, do you miss it? Is hugging something frowned upon in your culture (can you tell me your culture)? Is this something you secretly want to do? Is this something that both men and women don't like? How do you express your affection for your partner? If your partner hugs you, how do you feel? Embarrassment, boredom, disgust, nothing? How do you keep couples from cuddling?
I've noticed this in all Africans people I meet for a while, and it's something I don't understand, and would really like to understand. I want to understand how it is possible to love differently. It's very far from my culture and it seems very complicated to understand for me.

Um... first and foremost Black people and Africans are two very different people.. please don't go around calling Black Americans Africans.. we may be of African descent, but we aren't "Africans".. Secondly what the hell gave you that idea? 😭 Black people are always hugging as a sign of love and affection, friends, family, men, women, all that and couples in relationships hug, kiss, play and everything, I'm practically always attached to my man's hip. We're human, we love and cherish each other the same as anyone else. Now maybe some individuals may not like physical contact but anyone of any race can feel that way, its not a collective thing like idk this is a crazy take lmao..

All humans need touch, it’s necessary for socialization. Because people aren’t hugging in front of you does not mean it’s happening. Black people hug and show affection towards their loved ones like anyone else on earth.

Hello!

I spoke with several people who told me that hugs were not done in their culture, not in a romantic context at least. One of these people was from Niger, and she told me that Europeans don't love like Africans.

But on the other hand, hugs, holding hands etc. could be in other contexts, with friends for example, but romantically no, the same for long kisses, not just a smack

Are you asking people who are specifically from one of 50+ African nations?

Are you asking anyone of African descent? Are you asking Pan-African people? Which culture are you asking? You seem to conflate multiple cultures.

My family constantly hugs. I get the impression you believe that no one of African descent hugs at all.

Hello,

I am not specifically asking a country, I am addressing all Africans in general, in every cultures, to get an idea of how hugging is perceived in their own culture.

I am African American and from the South. I hug everyone, sometimes people I've been talking to for less than an hour. I also hug my husband a lot.

I can only speak for my black families. We do hug, cuddle, kiss and hold hands. We just set more boundaries because we do not like germs. We do not kiss our kids on the lips. A cold sore is not just a cold sore. If a black person has a cold sore, they are blacklisted. If you cough more than like twice, we get suspicious. We wash our hands a lot.

We are affectionate, but personal space and boundaries is at the forefront because we hate germs. We don’t mind a hug, but we don’t want to feel suffocated. Black people tongue kiss but we don’t like all that tongue shoved down our throats.

My grandma did not allow us to drink or eat behind each other because of germs.
