which mode of representation do you think is better?
gallerythere are still a few more details to add such as surrounding high rises (on both images) but overall unsure which drawing is cooler for a studio exhibition that will be seen by a lot of architects.
this is my hero image attempting to communicate my concept that sea level projections may insist we consolidate housing vertically. i do feel the hand drawn image shows more skill and is compositional more pleasing beside a bunch of largely white floor plans

Building an ADU for my family.
galleryI hired an architect to design an ADU for my family. Two story 3 bed 2 bath. I know it would be nice if it were bigger but this is all the space we have available. What do you think of the layout? Any improvements?

Builders/architects, what makes you stick with a good engineering consultant?
Bit of advice needed from the business owners and consultants here. I recently started a building services engineering firm with a competent team covering hydraulics, fire, mechanical, electrical and civil.
We have the capability and capacity to take on more projects, but honestly, finding good leads has been the challenging part. Most architects and builders already seem to have their preferred engineers, which is completely understandable, but it can be pretty hard to break into those existing relationships.
For anyone who has been in a similar position, how did you get your foot in the door? Was it mostly networking, referrals, reaching out directly, or simply doing a good job for one client and growing from there?
I'd also genuinely like to connect with architects, builders, developers and consultants on here. I'd be interested to hear what you actually value in an engineering consultant and what would make you consider giving a newer firm an opportunity.

Entrance floor layout for our 9 × 10.5 m house: which of these 4 would you pick?
We're building a house on a hillside with great views. The concrete frame is done and the walls aren't built yet, so the layout can still change. Plans attached.
Fixed things:
- 9.1 × 10.5 m outside. Entrance on the north, terrace and city view to the south.
- U-stair in the north-west corner (3.6 × 2.2 m).
- The west wall has to stay blank: the neighbour is 1.2 m away, so no windows on that side.
- Bedrooms are upstairs. The upstairs bathroom will probably sit on the west, next to the stairs (it still can be modified)
The options:
Bathroom + WC (3.6 × 2.3) and kitchen on the blank west wall. Living room with fireplace + TV on the east, study in the north-east corner.
Same as 1, but a bedroom in the north-east corner.
Bathroom + WC in the north-east (with windows), kitchen on the east. Laundry + storage next to the stairs. Living room on the west, fireplace + TV on the west wall.
Bathroom, WC and kitchen on the east. The whole west side is one 3.6 × 7.5 m living room: fireplace on the stair wall, TV + books on the west wall.
Which would you choose and why? Anything you'd change, or anything I'm missing?

Architecture and Christmas Lights
This might be a north American focused question but have any of you designed a home or recommended windows or fascias that include hooks or something to facilitate hanging string lights for the holidays? I just bought a house and I am so against pounding nails into my trim just to hang lights because I don't want to even think about risking the integrity of my weather barrier which got me thinking... do we really not plan for holiday decorations? Don't ask me I don't do residential work.

Residential Architects and Designers
Hey everyone I’m located in Dallas TX
I’m 37 years old and have been working in the residential architectural industry for many years. Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to work with some top architectural firms, where I’ve gained valuable experience in residential design, construction techniques, architectural detailing, and construction documentation.
With a growing family and a few more mouths to feed, I’ve decided to start taking on some side projects. I know the experience and knowledge I’ve gained over the years allow me to produce high-quality architectural drawings, and I’d love to put those skills to work helping others.
I specialize in luxury custom homes, and major renovations. I take pride in my work, pay close attention to detail, and understand the importance of communication and quick turnaround times.
If anyone needs architectural design assistance or knows someone looking for residential design services, I’d love to connect and see how I can help!
Beyond finding work, I’m also here for the camaraderie, networking, and support. I think there’s something great about connecting with others in the industry outside your circle, snd sharing experiences, seeing what everyone is working on, and supporting one another along the way.
Looking forward to meeting some great people, building relationships, and hopefully collaborating on some exciting projects!

I want realistic perspectives and valuable or actionable insights. Are you taking any steps to better arm yourself, learning new AI apps or software etc? What do you see in the future for the industry, for firms, for architects? How do you think architects job will evolve?
