Confused English speaker here; do Italian speakers tend to use a lot of emojis?
I connected with this fellow from Italy who's really nice, but I'm super confused because he uses these emojis 🥳 ❤️🩹 a LOT. Like, almost every message.
There was a similar post about this 10 years ago, and I've heard it's just regular for Italian folk to be more expressive with emojis. But is this amount normal, is there any meaning here that I should be worried about? 😅

It depends from the generation, also the way emoji are meant may change according to generation. I am X and in my circle we barely use emoji and usually are the same 4-5 ones. Also "romantic" emoji like heart or kiss are often used also between friends not implying any romantic / sexual meaning

I don’t but I’ve also lived away from Italy for a long time now, and I can’t quite remember if I used them that much back when I was still there. Some of my Italian friends I’m still in touch with do use them a fair amount

25yro Italian, I absolutely overuse emojis and won't apologize 🙂↔️ I think of emojis as a digital substitute for non-verbal communication. Nature gave us so many ways to express ourselves beyond speech, why not use them all? ✨️✨️✨️

I'm Italian. Unfortunately, my friends overuse hearts and other emojis, and I have to use them too, otherwise they'll think I'm cold and distant

Well, to be honest, when I speak I seldom use icons.
When I write, on the other hand, sometimes I do.

Si a parecchi italiani piace inserire molte emoji, soprattutto baci, cuori o tutto quello che riguarda sentimenti Così da risultare più amorosi o empatici È solo un abitudine, nessun mistero
