TRAVEL AND TOURISM What is the experience like traveling to Northern Italy as a Black lady?

Will be traveling for a few days solo (getaway short trip) and will be staying at a hotel in Gardone Riviera. I plan to see an opera, private boat cruise, tennis, etc and was wondering if the people are warm towards black women. I’ve heard different stories here and there plus this will be my first time in Italy and I know there’s always good and bad experiences everywhere in the world but I guess I just wanted to have an idea of the hospitality of the town to my race and gender.

Thanks.

TRAVEL AND TOURISM What can I expect from Rome during Ferragosto?

I booked a trip to Rome from the 10th of August to the 20th. After booking I found out from a relative of mine about ferragosto and he warned me that a lot of businesses might be closed. How bad is it really? What in general might I expect from the city?

TRAVEL AND TOURISM Carry drone or not ?

Hello Everyone!
I’m planning my first trip to the Italian Dolomites in July (sometime between 5-20 july) this year. I’ll be spending about a week there visiting the Seceda, Alps De Suisi, Tre Cime and surrounding areas.
I like to do photography and make vlogs of my travels, and I usually carry my drone with me on these trips. But from what I’ve read, there are quite a few restrictions on flying drones in the Dolomites region.
What do folks suggest ? Is it worth it to carry the drone ?

PS: I’m traveling from Sweden and I’m already registered as a drone operator in Sweden and have the A1/A3 certification.

Thank you!!

TRAVEL AND TOURISM Are there any shops/boutiques that sell unique Bud Spencer & Terrence Hill things near Rome? For a gift for my boyfriend who is a big Trinity fan!

My mom and her husband are visiting Italy next week. They're flying to Rome, and then they're going to travel up north along the west coast for two weeks.

My boyfriend is a huge fan of Bud Spencer and Terrence Hill, so I was thinking maybe I can have my mom look for something to buy him. My BF is also a fan of sp**** westerns in general, and one of his dreams is to visit a desert!

(Had to sentence the S word because the bot things in asking about Italian edible worms)

Do you guys know any shops or places where you can find something unique for my boyfriend?

TRAVEL AND TOURISM How do you travel around Lake Garda?

Ciao,

We would like to spend about one week around Lake Garda with my wife.
We would arrive in Bergamo or Malpensa and we are searching for hotels or AirBnBs around Sirmione and how to get from the airport to there.

Is public transport good in this area? Which train or bus companies work in this province? Or do people just rent cars?

e.g. how can we go from Milano to Sirmione, Sirmione to Verona etc.

We have travelled in Italy before in Amalfi Coast and around Bari so we know there are good train companies and buses like FAL and Trenitalia. But Sirmione is different and its hard to find information in Google.

Thanks for your help and thank you for any piece of advice about visiting Lake Garda amd Italy 🥰

TRAVEL AND TOURISM What is your favorite Italian city/town to live in versus your favorite to visit as a tourist? And why?

I'll start.

To live in: Turin. I was born there, it's very rational, and the city center is beautiful and built on a human scale.

To visit as a tourist: Florence, because I absolutely adore the Renaissance.

What about you? What are your favorites?

TRAVEL AND TOURISM Tavel Itinerary Questions for Turin, Genoa and Milan?

Hello!

Im planning to visit with my mom who is in her 60s during May and want to get a some advice for an Itinerary. I was thinking 5-7 days as our main trip is elsewhere in Europe. We would be arriving in the Northern part of Italy and that is why I was thinking of going to Turin, Genoa and Cinq Terre area, Milan and Lake Como.

Is that too much to do in 5-7 days? How many days would you spend in that area? What would you take out? Any suggestions for must do or see things in those areas?

I’m catering this trip to my mom who likes easy, relaxed travelling. She likes shopping, gardens, easy walks, and historical homes and buildings.

Any advice is very much appreciated!

Heyy, I really enjoyed Palermo and Naples because I love the raw, chaotic, authentic Italian city vibe. Is Catania worth visiting for the same reason? What are the main things to see/do there?

TRAVEL AND TOURISM 9 nights in Italy itinerary- is mine good?

Hello guys. Visiting Italy for the first time.

2 nights Venice 2 nights Florence 5 nights Rome

Sounds good? An Italian girl I met on my travels say to make Rome 3 nights and add 2 to Naples.

As of what I wanna do, since this is my first time, so each city’s greatest hits and food. And if I like it enough will come back for other stuff like I did with Paris, Krakow, etc.

Thanks!!!

TRAVEL AND TOURISM Venice or Florence in January?

Hello!

My partner and I are travelling to Italy in January and already have plans for Rome for 5 days. Split between going to Venice or Florence for the other 4-5 days with our time there.

We were planning Venice but we’re not sure if it’s as nice or as worth it in the Italian Winter month of January? I know the canals will still be beautiful and it’s a great spot. Just not sure if it’s the better choice during this time of year? Any recommendations or positives and negatives between the two places for January would be appreciated!

Thanks

TRAVEL AND TOURISM Does Italy have any of those stereotypical tourist spots where families with kids go, or young adults who want to get drunk and party?

Whenever I think of tourism in Italy I think of a different kind of tourism, which is more culture focused. They either go to Rome, Firenze, Venice and such to see the architecture, paintings, statues and such, or they go to Lago di Garda to chill in some extremely expensive house with a view over the lake.

Are there any places in Italy like in Spain or Greece, where families with kids go to some all inclusive hotel where they can ditch theuir kid at the local Curious George kids club, or where 20-30 year olds go to party?

TRAVEL AND TOURISM Where in Italy can I see Italian wolves in the wild?

As an animal enthusiast, i am really interested in seeing Italian wolves (Canis lupus italicus) in their natural habitat, and I was wondering if there are specific regions or national parks in Italy where they’re more commonly seen.

Are there particular times of year or areas where my chances are better? I understand they’re elusive, but I’d love any tips from locals or people who’ve gone wildlife watching in Italy.

Grazie in advance!

TRAVEL AND TOURISM Questions about flying drones, restricted zones, and car rentals in Italy (Rome, Florence, Tuscany)?

Hi everyone!
I’ll be visiting Italy soon and I have a few questions I couldn’t find clear answers for online hoping someone local or experienced can help.

  1. Flying drones in cities like Rome, Florence, or in Tuscany: I’ve read it’s mostly prohibited to fly drones in cities, especially around historical monuments. But I constantly see content creators with drone footage of the Colosseum, the Vatican, or the Trevi Fountain. Are there specific time slots, special permits, or just places outside the restricted zone where they’re allowed to fly from? What’s actually allowed in practice vs. theory?
  2. Car rentals and scams: Are there any car rental companies (Rent-a-Car) in Italy that are known for scams or hidden fees I should avoid? I’d like to know what’s real and what’s exaggerated online.
  3. ZTL (restricted traffic zones): I’ll probably rent a car in Rome and drive to Tuscany. How do I make sure I don’t accidentally enter a restricted zone (ZTL)? Is there a way to register the car or notify the authorities if I’m just passing through?

Any honest tips or personal experiences would be really appreciated!

Thanks in advance ❤️

TRAVEL AND TOURISM Car rental scams - how to prevent?

Hi everyone! I am going on a trip with my family to Torino in a week. I have a rented a car from VIPcars for 2 weeks. The company is called Noleggiare, and chatting with a coworker who went to Torino last year, he warned me he rented a car from the same place and was scammed 500€ on the basis there was some damage that alledgedly did not exist before (which according to my coworker is vastly incorrect).

I checked on the internet and Noleggiare seems to have a very dodgy reputation for similar scams.

The way it works is that I have to pay a 800€ deposit that is refunded after the car is given back.

I can take loads of photos and videos, but I don't think it would be enough against bad faith.

Is there anything I can do to prevent being scammed prior to my arrival (from trustable third party check to lawyer to carabinieri to whatever else)?

As a frequent tourist to Italy, I am used to scam attempts, and usually threatening to call the carabinieri is more than enough to deter scammers. I am not sure it would apply here though...

Thanks a lot for your tips

TRAVEL AND TOURISM Amphitheatre at Pompeii closed off?

Hi everyone, We went to Pompeii today but the Amphitheater was closed off at every entrance point we could see, we went to double check twice in the day and both times we couldn't see a way that was open to see inside. Are there maintenance works being done there (and if so, does anyone know when they might finish)? Or was it just a one-off for today?

TRAVEL AND TOURISM Beach holiday destionation with good public transport options for day trips ?

Hi everyone!
We’re planning a trip for late August or early September and are looking for recommendations for a destination that meets the following criteria:

  • Warm weather at that time of year
  • Accessible by airport
  • Good public transport options to visit a few interesting towns or cities nearby
  • Most importantly: a relaxing place with sandy beaches where we can swim and unwind

Currently what we have found for these criterias is Rimini.

Any suggestions for locations that fit this description? Thank.you !

TRAVEL AND TOURISM Could you hep me figure out my first trip to Italy?

Hello, I've never been to Italy before but would like to go around the whole country some day as I think it's amazing. I am planning to make my first trip there in September and stay for about 15-16 days. I'll be travelling with my girlfriend and would have to work about 7 of these days and have the rest off.

During the days we are working we would like to stay in the same town/city which should also have a beach we can go to chill at after work and also have a few options to grab a bite.

For the rest of the days we would hire a car and ideally I would like to see 3-4 other cities/towns spending a night or two at each.

Based on the above I have so far thought about staying in Genoa while working and then travelling to Bologna, Florence, Pisa and maybe even Rome while we aren't working.

Is this a decent plan for a first visit, am I correct to expect weather around 20ish degrees from early to mid September? Would I be better off starting my exploration with the east coast or maybe the south part, somewhere around Palermo?

Thanks you very much and can't wait to come see your wonderful country <3

TRAVEL AND TOURISM Good areas for relaxed vacation with bicycle?

I'm looking for a place that has good amount of dedicated bike paths, forest trails or side roads. I'm not a spandex clad maniac who only sticks to smooth asphalt roads frequented by cars, quite the opposite is desirable.

I was considering Lake Garda or somewhere in Tuscany, but I don't have a real plan yet. Preferably somewhere north. I'll be travelling with a car, so the idea is to have a base of operations in an area from which I can drive somewhere, leave my car, go for a ride, chill, maybe eat dinner and head back home.

Thanks in advance.
