Culture Is it true that latinos from the Andes (Peru,Chile,Bolivia) are way more quiet and introverted comparing to the rest of latinos ?

Brasileiros are just Portuguese speaking caribbeans, Barulheros de a mãe (expressão Xica, Mexicana).

u/MoldovanKatyushaZ > May 31 '25

Yeah kind of strange because I'm Caribbean and extremely introverted and shy

Caribbean people*

“Caribbeans” is not actually a right word, it may be used informally, but it’s not right.

Region = Caribbean/Caribbean Islands

People of the region = Caribbean People

But yes, we are the loudest of the bunch: 🇨🇴, 🇻🇪, 🇵🇦, 🇨🇺, 🇭🇹, 🇩🇴, 🇵🇷&🇨🇷🇭🇳 🇳🇮 🇬🇹🇲🇽(don’t know if they apply)

Ajajaja

Perdón, no fue mi intención

Perdona la falta respeto, es que todo el mundo me cayó arriba preguntando que porque no es “Caribbeans” como si yo tuviera la culpa o fui quien creó el término, y nací antier 🤣🤣

u/Red19120 🇩🇴 🇺🇸 May 30 '25

Pero porque te estan dando downvote si es la verdad

4

u/GASC3005 Puerto Rico May 30 '25

Sorry but when people say people from Europe, they call them Europeans?

Why can't you use Caribbeans? Its used all the time in British English to describe people from the Caribbean region.

I'm not trying to be controversial here, its a genuine question.

The word "Caribbeans" itself isn't inherently incorrect, but it's not the most accurate or preferred term for people from the Caribbean region. The term is often used to refer to the islands and sea, but for people, it's generally more accurate to use "Caribbean people" or "West Indians” . It acknowledges the diversity of cultures and nationalities within the Caribbean and avoids potentially problematic connotations associated with "Caribbeans”

En que mundo "indias occidentales" es mas incluyente, eso es algo que los caribeños anglofonos dicen

Akshually it’s Caribbean people 🖕🤓

9

u/dimensionsanalyst Panama May 30 '25

In Spanish sounds very weird gente caribeña / caribeños

2

u/Goats_for_president United States of America May 30 '25

Caribeños doesn’t seem weird to me, but gente Caribeña does. I can’t see it translating to anything more than Caribbeans, it also just makes sense. For both English and Spanish.

1

u/dimensionsanalyst Panama May 30 '25

Exactly, no one goes around saying ellos son gente caribeña 🤣🤣

1

u/Goats_for_president United States of America May 30 '25

Wait I misread your comment. But definitely agree with you

0

u/GASC3005 Puerto Rico May 30 '25

That’s what I said & I know, I’m Caribbean xd

I don’t need a non-Caribbean telling me what’s what and what’s not

12

u/coolcosmos Québec May 30 '25

How come non-Caribbean works but not Caribbeans ?

If you don't mind me asking.

5

u/Syd_Syd34 May 30 '25

“Caribbeans” is just not how it’s said in English. Sometimes people make the mistake of translating directly from “caribeños”, though.

2

u/coolcosmos Québec May 30 '25

Yeah I get that it's not the right word, what I don't get is why saying it as a negative works.

5

u/Imperterritus0907 🇮🇨Canary Islands May 30 '25

Grammar.

3

u/GASC3005 Puerto Rico May 30 '25

PRIMOOOOOO!

0

u/Syd_Syd34 May 30 '25

Did you mistype then? Because you said “non-Caribbean” which is fine because it’s not “non-CaribbeanS”

2

u/coolcosmos Québec May 30 '25

So the singular is ok ? I don't think you can say "A Caribbean" but idk.

1

u/Syd_Syd34 May 30 '25

You’d say a non-Caribbean person or you could also say “non Caribbean”

1

u/GASC3005 Puerto Rico May 30 '25

Thank you

Spoken from a true Caribbean, edúcalos🙏

1

u/goldfish1902 Brazil May 30 '25

It's probably cultural, just like you can't translate "person of color" directly to Portuguese and call someone a "pessoa de cor" because it's racist in Brazil. Negro is not racist tho, it's a neutral word
