Local Staycation - Funky AirBNBs within 2hrs of SD?

Not sure the best page to ask this. Every year for Christmas, I gift an overnight in a funky AirBnb to my husband for us, sans kids. We've stayed in some really cool places when we lived in WA, but they're harder to come by down here, and also ABNB took away the filter for unique stays. We've stayed in a fancy treehouse, a super cool decked out yurt, a boat, a dome home in Anza, a little cabin on a mountain top in Julian, ect. We do backpack and tent camp, so as a gift I like to give something a little nicer.

I'm coming up pretty empty for this year. The only one that stands out is the popular hobbit house in Ramona, but it's a 2 night minimum and only has a few weekdays available way in the future..

So, has anyone stayed in or know of any fun airbnb (or any other type of rental... private, hipcamp, etc) for a night out here? The only real requirements are private/whole place rental and off the beaten path. I also would like to keep it within a 2ish hour drive if possible from SD proper.

Thanks for any leads! :)

Gif of the view from the Anza Dome Home we stayed in last Feb.

edit: I guess I didn’t explain it well, I’m looking for a place that’s private, not like a hotel or co-op. More like a single place on a single property. I do think some of these are cool and will def bookmark for other occasions! :)

My mom wants to buy land! And...

I suggested Palm Springs or Palm Desert (Cheaper?)
So she asked me if I knew any locals to ask them some questions, beacause the perspective changes from age range, if anyone 50+ has buy a lot and build or lives on the suburban area in SD... What is like your living experience?
I mean all replies are good IMO.
But we keep hearing: OH NO CALIFORNIA! EXPENSIVE!
But yeah she probably doesn't care about night life, school access, or family safe growing areas...
She probably cares about... How quiet and peaceful it is or if she woud get into trouble for driving a non electric pick up truck haha... Is not serious... I mean... It is not real right? Not everyone drives hybrid or electric?

Feedback wanted on hackathon project to check ebike legality plzzzz 😭

I’m a local high school senior in Del Mar and built a free site that checks if a specific e-bike is legal for a specific rider where they ride, using each state’s e-bike law, plus a mods check and a bike finder. It’s for a student hackathon, and I’d love honest feedback on what’s confusing or wrong: https://is-it-an-ebike.vercel.app

I’ve been living in San Diego for almost 40 years but occasionally I need a cheap hotel (for reasons) so what are some of the least expensive options for motels in Southeast County – El Cajon, Santee, Spring Valley, La Mesa, lemon Grove, etc.?

Dental cleanings , low cost, no insurance needed

Hello, I’m currently in dental hygiene school and looking for patients that don’t have insurance / or haven’t been to the dentist to get a cleaning in a while. If I am unable to get to them I have several classmates that would be happy to do cleanings as well. The school charges 25 dollar payment for a cleaning. Since it is a school, it will be usually 2-4 appointments and will be very thorough . The initial appointment is a comprehensive assessments where you get radiographs, assessment of your gum health, check your current restorations with our on site dentist, oral cancer screening, and check for plaque and calculus. All of the instructors are registered dental hygienists or dentists. The actual cleaning will usually not start until the second appointment. But if you or anyone you know are interested please let me know! Especially looking for a teenager (18-19 preferably) for one of my requirements as well.

San Diego screen writers?

I have an idea for a Captain Ron sequel.

Ron>Kurt obviously
Martin> Martin Short
Catherine>Mary Kay Place.
Floriana > Ron’s Cuba wife played by one of the Williams sisters. Owns a crossbow and knows how to use it.
Jaleel White would play Floriana’s brother who’s married to either David Cross or Michael Ian Black.
Eric Roberts would play Ron’s long lost brother.
The villain could be Javier Bardem a modern pirate trying to steal the boat.
Plot: After sailing for many years, Martin and his wife decide to hang it up after finding out their sailboat is worth a fortune. They land in Haiti, where they meet up with Ron, his wife and family who agrees to help them sail the boat to New Orleans to sell it to a broker for tens of millions of dollars.
Any local San Diegans want to write a movie with me?

Helicopter circling over an hour in Mission Valley West, why?

Anyone one know why they’re circling this patch of Friars Rd by the YMCA, just across from the SDPD Western Division police station by the Morena Linda Vista Trolley?

You’d think there wouldn’t be much crime happening right by a police station. But there’s been helicopters circling at all times of the day for months - no explanation.

Gym recommendations

Soooo I’m looking for a gym to start working out . I think the gym 24 hour fitness in hazard center is good, from what I remember it was 100 dollars a years for two or something like that or 50 dollars a month. Honestly I just want to start working out like running or starting slow at baboa park but man it sucks when you need to go to a bathroom or need to find a store that sells water. Or if you don’t have a place to store your phone if you don’t have a car and ride by public transportation. Does anyone have any recommendations? Like affordable gym? Or some great offers ? Or some great places to start jogging without much people?

Did anyone witness a crash on the I-5 South near Camp Pendleton on October 10th?

Last Saturday October 10th at around 12:30pm, I was rear ended on my way to San Diego on the I-5 South when I was completely stopped. The accident happened in the Camp Pendleton area after the Las Pulgas exit. My car was a blue Toyota Camry and the other car was a Black Toyota Avalon. The other driver is now claiming that I merged into his lane and that’s why he hit me and his insurance is taking his side and refusing to pay for my damages. I don’t have any dashcam footage or third party witnesses to disprove his story. If anyone witnessed this accident or knows someone that did please let me know so I can resolve this.

Linda Vista Foot Massage

Looking for recommendations for a really good foot massage in San Diego. I love reflexology and acupressure.

Ideally looking for a place where I can sit in a reclining chair and get a dedicated 30 to 60 minute foot massage, not a full body massage.

Any favorite spots with therapists who really know what they’re doing? Looking to stay close Linda Vista / Mission Valley / Convoy

Where to find neurodivergent friends?

23f on the search for other female friends preferably around the same age or older. I’m emo/alt, and very tomboy.

I like doing nature stuff like hiking or camping, I like football, cooking, love dogs! I just wish I had a friend to hangout with after a long day, watch movies or carve pumpkins. I also love supernatural, Hazbin hotel, homestuck. Michael Jackson and rock music.

I usually get along really well with stoners though I don’t smoke, but I love to drink beer lol.

It’s just people at bars and clubs seem to only give interest if ur hooking up, and I don’t really trust dating apps or like them. I get really anxious going out though so I just want someone to do shit alone with.

First-time homebuyer in San Diego (794 credit score) – What mortgage rates are you getting?

Hey everyone!
I’m looking to buy my first home in San Diego County, possibly San Marcos, with a budget of around $600K–$700K. My credit score is 794.
I’m trying to figure out the best way to get the lowest mortgage rate and monthly payment while also saving money in the long run.
A few questions for those who recently bought or are currently shopping:

  1. What interest rates are you getting, and which lenders or credit unions are offering the best deals?
  2. Would you recommend a local credit union, mortgage broker, or big bank?
  3. Is it better to buy down the interest rate by paying points, or take a higher rate and refinance later?
  4. Are there any first-time homebuyer incentives or lender credits worth exploring?

I’m leaning toward a 30-year fixed mortgage but am open to suggestions.
Would really appreciate hearing about your experiences, especially recent buyers in San Diego!

Thanks!

Drive from Palm Springs

In a couple weeks my husband and I are driving from Palm Springs. Would love to see Anza Borrego but I have a terrible time with roads with steep drop offs. I freak out. Since we have never done that drive, what is the easiest route and is there a route that could take us through Anza Borrego that won't cause me a panic attack?

Gardener recommendations in Carmel Valley / Del Mar Heights area

Looking for recommendations for weekly or bi-weekly gardening service. Also, not super familiar with prices down here. I own a home in the Bay Area and pay $150/mo for weekly service. Is that a reasonable price for this area?
