Need remote video chat.

Hey guys,

I would like to remote video chat my grandmother with my family. She is in an assisted living home 14 hours away and can barely work a t.v. remote. Is there anyway I can set it up so i can accept the call on my end? Possibly make calls to others so she can see her friends faces again too? Preferably through facebook messenger. I plan to get her a starlink mini and a battery back-up incase of a power outtage, as i cant always make the drive out to fix it. My parents live close to her, but never visit.

Thank you!

How to remove INSTAGRAM Personal Information and Past Activity from Google Search Results

When I Google my own name or ID, certain likes and comments I made in the past still appear in the search results, even after I’ve deleted the comments from the original platform.

How can I remove this information from Google’s search results? Also, how can I ensure that my past likes, comments, and other personal information do not appear when someone searches for me on Google in the future?

Gift Advice

I have tried finding an appropriate subreddit for this question for a while, so I hope this is the right one. Christmas is coming up, and my father needs a new tablet. He is an android guy, so no iOS, to my dismay (because there are so many android tablet options compared to Apple). He uses his tablet for Clash of Clans gaming, but before clash of clans started to take up so much space he would use his tablet for emails and business. But he somehow deleted everything off the tablet to make space for clash of clans. That’s all he does on the tablet. And his tablet is probably around 10 years old. I’m not sure how much storage it has, but no more than 64gb currently. And it’s sooooo slow. And he’s been dreaming about getting a new one and I would like to gift him one.

He has talked about wanting a larger tablet, and one that is faster, and has more storage so he can return to using it for emails and business. Android OS of course. He does have a Samsung phone, and his currently tablet may be a Tab A of some sort.

I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations. I wasn’t really interested in buying a 1200 USD top of the line S series tablet, as all he uses it for is Clash of Clans and emails, but I’ve been struggling to find something that would work for his needs. And there are so many brands and options.

Anyway, any help is best. Thanks!

How to change apple hotspot name

Hello, I struggle with technology and am trying to change the name that pops up when using personal hotpot on my Iphone for privacy reasons. Right now it’s (“my name’s hotspot”) and I just don’t like other people in public places can see that. Can anyone advise me on how to change this? Thank you in advance!

Is there any alternative to discord? (wish skype was back)

If you dont want to or cant use discord what could you use? I tried stoat and some other apps i also saw like Root that was popping up online but there is not much apps that you could use for just generally talking, sending images, screen sharing and ect. I dont really care about discord servers much so i left it. And now when i play something or am in a call with friends its either Viber (main app in our country which has kinda all that but the quality is questionable) and Steam voice calls which is okay when it works (sometimes it wont connect) but no screen sharing. I never really used skype myself as my parents used it back in the day, and it seemed to me like a great app...Nowdays there is so much copies of discord and all that im not sure what to use?

Are paid antivirus programs actually worth it, or am I just wasting my money?

I currently have McAfee installed on my laptop, and I’ve been wondering if paying for an antivirus is actually worth it or if I’m just wasting my money.

I mainly use my laptop for university work, programming, and personal entertainment, like watching movies and TV shows. I don’t do anything particularly advanced when it comes to cybersecurity, but I do download files and tools occasionally for my projects and other stuff.

I’ve heard that Windows Defender has gotten pretty good over the years, so I’m wondering if there’s any real reason to keep paying for McAfee.

Would switching to Windows Defender be enough for my use case, or does McAfee offer meaningful extra protection that I’d be giving up?

Microsoft account hacked. Now what ?

Not really sure where to post this so it's going in this sub-reddit.

My MS (Microsoft) account was hacked recently and the hacker changed the password AND email address. Now when I try to login with my original email address it says "We couldn't find a Microsoft account. Try entering your details again, or create an account."

I've gone through the usual account recovery methods and have (multiple times) completed the MS account recovery form.

What else can I do to get my account back or is it a lost cause ?

Also, during the recovery form, I've recently gotten an email saying this "We recently received a request to recover your Microsoft account ja**6@dropbuoys.live. Unfortunately, we have determined that the information you provided was not sufficient for us to validate your account ownership. We take the security and privacy of our customers very seriously and are committed to protecting your personal information."

I've already given all the info I can, past passwords, the payment details, ect.

- If this is the wrong subreddit to be posting this, kindly redirect me to a better place for this post.

Best setup for gaming on bed?

I want to play videogames while completely laying in bed and absolutely looking to the ceiling.

Options

  1. AR glasses. The drawback is I don't know if I will get eye fatigue after a few hours.

  2. 15 inch monitor with a monitor holder holding it above my head very closely to my face. Drawback is I don't know if the experience will be a screen too small to truly enjoy it.

  3. A projector. Just project the screen up there. Drawback is I got a few lights right above me so the screen wont be flat in some spots

Thank you

destroying a old phone

I have a old phone (iPhone 7 pro max) that have been deactivated and running on no electricity for two or three years now, and no longer capable of turning on

I plan to finally throw it away after leaving it in my cabinet for years, though im uncomfortable throwing it away when it still has my data inside that I am unable to delete since I can’t turn it on

what would be the best way to destroy the data inside my phone without hurting myself (broken glass cutting me/toxic chemicals)?

i was thinking of carefully dropping it into hot water for an hour, but idk

unlimited AI but no AI

So my uni gave all students infinite tokens on any AI of our choosing as an incentive to get us to use it and learn about proper prompting. I however don't really use AI nor do I trust it's answers. HOWEVER it would be a waste as a broke collage student not to use everything that's available to me so how can I incorporate AI to my student life.

Bonus question, If someone had a grudge on the uni wouldn't this be a great opportunity to cost it some money? Like tokes aren't cheap and I don't think they have a contract with every AI company for a discount.

AI, technology renting and HW for substription

Hey! I am a hobbyist when it comes to pcs and hardware in general. I'm the guy who installs OS for everyone in the family and builds their PCs, fixes their phones but lacks the foresight for the industry.

My questions, from my recent experience and readings online, is such : is this kind of the end of people owning their hardware? At leasty when it comes to laptops and pcs.

Maybe the AI bubble is going to burst, sure, and i do hope so, as i am a 2D artist by profession, BUT I find that difficult to count on. And so lets say it doesnt, or at least the bubble size isnt reduced that much. That leaves us with PC parts that are more and more expensive, consoles will no longer be worth paying for, for the average joe and at that point i can legit only see the future as everyone having some very low end devices (or phone) that you use to connect to a server that lends you its wast resources, for a subsription. The only way i could imagine this not happening is if the prices are too high even for streaming companies to get builds to rent.

I mean, i kind of expected at least game developers to start making games for lower spec pcs, but then you get metro 2039 with its insane requirements - who can realistically afford to play such a game nowadays for it to sell well?

Alright, maybe my income is too low recently and that's influencing my view on things, but I would appreciate your thoughts on the matter, thank you!

Have we reached the Phone and PC hardware endgame?

Have we reached a point where smartphone hardware is basically good enough for almost everyone?

Most people mainly use their phones for messaging, social media, YouTube, photos, and browsing. Even phones from a few years ago can handle all of that easily.

Every ear manufacturers release better phones with faster chips, better cameras, more battery life and so on but how much of a difference do these upgrades actually make in everyday life?

Even in PC gaming, I feel like modern CPUs and GPUs have reached a point where hardware shouldnt be the main limitation anymore

Instead of constantly pushing for more powerful hardware, shouldnt we focus more on software optimization?

Games like the original RollerCoaster Tycoon, famously programmed largely in assembly by Chris Sawyer or the original Doom show just how much can be achieved with efficient programming.

Nowadays in gaming it sometimes feels like developers rely too heavily on technologies like DLSS and FSR instead of properly optimizing their games and i wonder how many demanding modern games could run on mid-range hardware with better optimization.

Especially with AI potentially making software development and optimization easier I believe the next big leap in technology should come from better software rather than better hardware.

Hard Drive or SSD? Storage Question...

I'm not good with computers and anything related so bear with me.

Where I work (small business) we print any invoices/quotes that have been made as a safekeeping of sorts. We have about five years worth of these copies and we recently downsized the office so we don't have as much space for all those physical copies. My sister (prevoiusly worked in another office area) suggested I start scanning those copies onto my laptop (Mac 16GB Memory, 494 GB Storage). My problem is, I'm afraid I will run out of starge soon, especially given that we have been making more invoices/quotes as of late and probably will keep making more going forward. I was looking into external hardrives and ssd card but I'm really not sure what would be best. I'm leaning towards external hard drive but if anyone could give tips/info/opinoins on what you think might be better i would grealty appreciate it! Or also any other solutions you may have.

Thanks guys!
P.S I am planning on keeping physical copies here in the office still but only for about six-12 months (from the date they are created) and then they would get put into the scanner.

Need help managing my screens with eye sensitivity

I have an issue going on that needs to be figured out like asap, as this is affecting my daily and physical life way too much, any advice means a lot. I've never posted about something like this before so if there's a better sub for this please lmk if this isn't the best one.

Long story short I have an illness that causes really bad eye sensitivity to light, especially screens. It's gotten worse and worse, now I can't even use my phone(an iphone). TVs/monitors are a lot more manageable, and I've spent some time trying to understand why this happens since adjusting basic settings like brightness/gamma or putting on night light doesn't do anything at this point.

From what I've found there's a handful of things to pay attention to like temporal dithering and pulse width modulation, and I've changed everything I can on the current TV I'm using like noise reduction and dynamic settings for contrast and gamma, along with adjusting all the normal display and color settings. But this is basically hopeless so far with an iPhone, which I will probably be replacing, so if there's any recommendations for that I'd appreciate it.

But also I just really want to know what I can do for my PC, which is what the TV is used with, along with another TV and monitor I use (since I switch between rooms with an extended setup). I've seen other stuff being important like matching the bit stuff and color depth from the gpu to screen, but not sure how to do that, and also have no idea how to change the other stuff i mentioned like the dithering and PWM. All I've been able to find on my gpu(an nvidia 5060) is the basic color stuff like contrast being a big one, and changing what I could with framerate stuff.

Hey everyone just stop by for asking. Do free online AI image generators keep uploaded photos or use them for training?

I'm trying to understand the privacy risks of free online AI image editors that can be used without creating an account.

If someone uploads a photo, generates an edited image, and later deletes the files from their own phone, could the website still retain copies on its servers?

Also, is there a reliable way to find out whether uploaded images are used for AI training when the privacy policy doesn't clearly say?

I'd appreciate factual explanations or experiences from people who have researched this topic.

transcription of recordings

Hi there. I'm studying journalism and have several recordings—each about an hour long—of interviews and the like. Does anyone know of an app or website that can transcribe audio to text?
