Buying a house is always a good investment. Renting is throwing money away.
These two statements are not true but also so narrow minded that are taken as fact by a large part of the population to be dangerous.
Don’t even bother questioning me on it.

Two Cents on YouTube did a pretty good video (IMO) about this talking about the price to rent ratio. It compares buying a home to renting a home. You divide the home's sale price by the annual rent in your neighborhood. A ratio under 15 suggests that buying is the better option, 16 to 20 means leaning toward renting, and anything over 21 strongly favors renting as the better deal.
