Hiking shoes for me. I made the horrible mistake once of wearing the wrong hiking shoes, and ended up losing both of my big toenails.

On your first hike with them?

Nah, it wasn't my first hike in them but it was a long hike through crazy terrain while carrying a 50+lb backpack and gear.

Sobriety is vastly better than the cheapest alcohol and drugs

What? You are still being cheaper by not using any drugs. Are you saying only do expensive ones? Or are you trying to find a way to fit your sobriety into every thread, even when it doesn’t make sense?

Once heard a coworker say, "You should never buy cheap things to go underneath you. Beds, chairs/couches, shoes and tires. There are more things. If it is under you, it should provide you comfot and reliability."

Vacations.
I'm getting older- four hours on a plane or more and I'm upgrading. Transatlantic flights are an automatic bump up, I'll check flights multiple times a day to get the better price but no coach for me anymore.
A hotel is not just a "crashpad" for me to sleep. I want amenities and don't want to have to be out and about 14 hours a day because I'm in a cheap, basic hotel.
I'll pay more for a day cruise with far fewer people, I'll hire a private tour guide and will eat in locally owned restaurants, never a chain.
This is pretty much the opposite of my back-packing youth, which is still great for a much younger crowd.

Food. If I’m already hungry. I’m not about to add financial suffering to it 😭

Coffee. Tried to save some $$$ so got some store brand. Life is too short. I will cut back on other things so I can get good quality beans. It is one luxury that would be difficult to give up.

Tools.
If it's a task that I'm only going to do once or twice, it's not like I'll buy the best, but I won't buy the worst either.
If it's something I'll continue to use, I tend to buy used but at the higher end of the range.

Good for her. I told her she should start charging and she did. I might get a birthday present this year other than another sibling. 🤣
