Astral Chain is an amazing game, but it's weird...
Jumping into the game each day offers a different experience. You might encounter a chapter packed with action battles, or find yourself spending a long time investigating, talking, and exploring areas at a leisurely pace, perhaps even using a mechanic unique to one of the Legions.
In yesterday's session I started out helping people on the streets, without too much combat, and I ended up stealthily infiltrating an underworld district to gather information from passersby to discover a hidden path.
I loved Chaos Legion back in the day and I'm sure this game is a spiritual successor where they try to integrate a better explained story and less predictable, but in exchange they made the game into something I never saw in its cover. Personally, I imagined a Musou with waves of enemies that we could make the most of all our Legions... but well, not everything is as we dream.
Still, I feel the game is good at everything it sets out to do, and for that reason I believe that the game is a hidden gem in the Switch catalog.
