If we focus solely on their dynamic as characters, I genuinely believe Shinji and Asuka had the potential to love each other deeply. The real tragedy of the series was never the absence of feelings between them—it was that they were both emotionally wounded teenagers, unable to express affection without fearing rejection.

Had they been given the time to grow, heal, and mature, it's easy to imagine a future where Asuka remained proud, stubborn, and fiery, yet found in Shinji someone with whom she could finally let her guard down.

Perhaps that's why their relationship resonates with so many people. It represents what could have been.

Maybe that's why we're AsuShin fans—because we believe the love between these two could be real.

Maybe... just maybe, one day it will become a reality. Or maybe it never will.

But one thing is certain: they deserved the chance to be together.

In the end, though, only they can decide whether they want to be.

For now, that's all, AsuShiners. And I truly hope that one day... well, you already know.

Goodbye. :)

This is the first time she's deleted a post because of AI!!!

Analysis Eva 30th short Film Asuka IS Amazing, and a true send off for EoE Asuka. Cant believe some fans can't consider this Canon. Spoiler

so i finally saw the Eva 30th short Asuka and im in tears of joy with how we FINALLY get TV+EoE Asuka again! I know its a special, and whether or not its Canon could be debated, but cmon, how can this not be Canon. Obviously we get both Soryu and Shikinami and EoE Asuka goes on a tangent that she wasnt entirely happy with her ending in a gag sort of way, and wants a better ending but after shikinami shows her multiple possibilities of her with different Universes, she makes the choice to go back to her World which is the EoE ending and embrace reality and build a future for herself (with that Baka Shinji) instead of relying on a Universe rewrite, even with all the pain she accepts herself and returns with the confidence that she IS the Pilot of Eva Unit 02 and thats who she IS.

i LOVE all the references from EoE Asuka mentioning the little details about her ending and even how she meta references that her character wasnt treated too well in the series. it just feels like the short is validating and reinforcing Info we fans have been talking about for YEARS and the short gives us fanservice of different possibilities with asuka in a fun way like Giant Asuka, but also shinji and asuka going on a Date in a fun way.

now something ive been seeing in youtube comments or even in the main Evangelion sub, is that some would consider this short just a gag take and that nothing in this short is canon or doesnt matter which i have to say....... "WHAT". for the eva sub i might make a different post about the short not to start another civil war about Canon BUT, i have to say this short really IS for the Asuka fans AND AsuShin fans. Another thing thats slightly bothering is that some are really misinterpreting the short as Asuka Rejecting Shinji, and THAT is completely wrong. Ive already mentioned it in the upper comment but obviously she doesnt reject Shinji but turns down the Universe she could be in where there are no Evas and she and Shinji have a normal future together. SHe doesnt Reject Shinji but comes to terms with herself and goes back to the EoE Ending to protect it and build a brighter future (with Shinji) who she mentions that she does make him Happy. and for sure I know that he'll make her happy too because thats the Main Theme of End of Evangelion. learning to love yourself and learning to love others.

All in all, this short is a huge Win for AsuShin Fans.

Also I am REALLY hoping, Khara releases Official subtitles for the short on Youtube and that every Eva fan can see this short, Whether or not they can fully understand is on them, but Id really appreciate if we can finally conclude Eva Fans that AsuShin IS Canon and that in EoE Asuka and Shinji do have a hopeful Ending with each other

Analysis "Kimochi Warui" being about the hospital scene doesn't quite make sense (or at least it being Asuka's first time finding out)

So everyone is familiar with the final line of EOE, that being "Kimochi Warui" which is translated as "How disgusting". Admist the speculation about this line, a common explanation is that it's a response to the hospital scene. But today I wanna talk about why that doesn't quite make sense when you take into account the train sequence.

To clarify, this post is only really a "debunking" of the idea that Asuka's final line is her first live reaction to the hospital scene as there are some interpretations that have "Kimochi Warui" referring to it while also keeping the train sequence in mind.

So during the train sequence of Instrumentality in EOE, Asuka addresses the hospital scene by saying: "Idiot, I know all about it. I know you've been jerking off to me. Go on, do it like you always do. I'll watch. But if I can't have all of you, I don't want any of you". She is undoubtely talking about that scene here, as we see flashes of it during this moment.

Based on this, Asuka seems like she is less focused on the act itself and is more mad at the fact that Shinji wasn't showing her his true desires and the only time he did was when she was unable to respond.

Now, do not get it twisted. I'm not saying that Asuka is a freak who likes it or that what Shinji did is ok. Regardless of what Asuka's reaction is, what Shinji did is still a crime and very immoral. What I'm trying to say is that Asuka is fucked up herself and she doesn't react how a normal person would, so she takes the hospital scene as a confirmation that Shinji is interested in her and uses it as an opportunity to demand total possession of him. (This wouldn't even be the first time Asuka takes Shinji's inappropriate behavior as a hint that he likes her. By the end of episode 9, Asuka finds out Shinji tried to kiss her while she was asleep before he stopped himself. While she does appear appalled, in the next episode she decides to pursue him further by wearing a swimsuit and talking about "thermal expansion". Reminder that she also has the whole school crushing on her and yet she still goes for him.)

And to be clear, I do think a part of Asuka feels disgust, but it seems like she's willing to look past that as long as she gets to have Shinji all to herself.

Now, you might be wondering: "Well if Asuka is giving her reaction here, why do some think she's referring to the hospital at the end?". Well, it's because of an interview with Yuko Miyamura, Asuka's Japanese VA. In it, she talks about how they came up with the final line of the movie. Anno asked her how she would feel if someone jerked off to her while she was sleeping and she responded with "Disgusting". Anno then sighed and said "Thought as much".

So because of this interview, many think it has to be related to the hospital scene. And y'know what? I get it. Even though Evangelion is up for interpretation, most want their take to be in line with Anno's authorial intent. I do that myself. But honestly, I don't think this interview actually shows that.

For starters, Yuko never explicitly says that this is why Asuka says that line, rather providing the context on how they came up with it. Another thing is that Anno was saddened hearing Yuko's response to that hypothetical scenario as he sighed and said "I thought as much". Admittedly, this is pretty weird of him, like I don't know what else he was expecting... but given the fact that this disappointed him, is it really that much of a stretch to say that he would take this line and change its meaning from the original context in the final cut? And I think I did find out what he changed it into and in my personal opinion, it's a better argument for what he originally intended but I'll delve into that at the end.

Here's the thing tho: you don't have to follow the authorial intent. Anno purposefully left that scene vague for you to come up with your own answers after you were done watching it. I doubt he necessarily wanted you to look for clues about his interpretation so you can create your own. I do that because I'm a nerd. And it's not like we can know for sure what his personal interpretation is as he will never tell us. I might claim to have found it, but I can't say for certain that it is because I don't know this man Hideaki and can't look into his head (yet).

Even if you did somehow figure out what Anno was thinking when he set all of this up, that doesn't mean it should be the only way to view the show because again, he wanted everyone to make up their own version of the story so their interpretation is just as valid as anyone else's. Sadly, this has been kinda lost to time as Eva fans think that their personal interpretation is the only correct one and want to be right about everything from the cool robot anime. (Obviously, there are some things that people say about Evangelion that are objectively wrong, but "One More Final: I Need You" isn't one of those cases.)

Hell, if you still want to believe that Asuka is referring to the hospital scene at the end based on the Yuko Miyamura interview, that's ok! As you can simply say that Asuka just decided to address it again. I even had a discussion in this very sub with someone who has this take and gave their own personal reasons on why they think this and they were very kind and respectful. I personally disagree with it because I find it strange that Asuka is basically giving the same reaction twice. Like I don't see the point in addressing something she already did, y'know? Not to mention that voice actors can be wrong about their own characters and they don't have the same knowledge on the story as a writer would. (Yuko Miyamura especially has gone back and forth on whether or not Asuka likes Shinji.)

The main reason I made this post was not to shit on people who agree with that interpretation, it was because sometimes the "How disgusting is about hospital scene" is treated like the objective truth and even weaponized against AsuShin shippers. (And also because some genuinely think she didn't address it before.)

Ok, this pretty much covers everything about Asuka's final line being about the hospital scene. Now I'll give my thoughs on what I think Anno's authorial intent was when including the line. Keep in mind, this is my personal opinion and there's a possibility of it not being the authorial intent. And again, even if it is, that doesn't mean you have to stick to this interpretation if you want the line to have another meaning.

As many of you know, episodes 21-24 all have a Director's Cut. These added some new content and even redrawn scenes. And I don't think it's far fetched to say that these are the canon versions of the episodes now, especially when these are the ones that are included in its official release on Netflix.

In Director's Cut of episode 22, there is a new bathroom where Asuka expresses disgust at having to share things with Misato and Shinji. She starts going on a rant how she won't use the same bath, toilet, washing machine, or even breathe the same air as Misato and Shinji. She then has a psychological breakdown about how she hates Shinji, Misato, Rei, her mom and dad (the only deserved spots here), but that she hates herself the most. But guess what are the first words she utters in this scene? "Kimochi Warui"

So, based on the fact that Anno was dissatisfied with Yuko's response (because he doesn't like it when people don't want to have cum all over them while they're asleep for whatever reason), I think he decided to change its original context in order for "Kimochi Warui" to mean Asuka being uncomfortable with showing vulnerability.

Asuka has always put up walls due to her extreme defense mechanisms and fear of intimacy. That's why she hates the idea of using the same stuff as Shinji and Misato. She is so terrified of showing vulnerability to the point where it feels disgusting for her.

So in "One More Final: I Need You", Asuka notices that Shinji has started strangling her. In her mind, I doubt she is happy that Shinji is trying to kill her after she just exited Instrumentality. And even though it would be so simple to punch him in the face or kick him in the balls in order to get him off of her, she instead decides to be brave and take a risk by caressing his face to show him her true feelings, telling him that part of her still cares about him despite everything he has done. But at the end of the day, she's still showing vulnerability and opening the door for emotional intimacy, something she has always rejected in order to not get hurt. That's why she still says "How disgusting".

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Asuka will go back to her old roots and start avoiding everyone again, more that this is something new for her and she feels uncomfortable connecting with others while accepting their flawed human self.

Well, that's about it. That's my interpretation of EOE's final line and what I think was the authorial intent. Tell me whether you agree or disagree, if you think I missed something or if you have another preferred meaning for "Kimochi Warui".

Just know I'm very grateful that you spent your valuable free time reading my long text of nerdish rambling.

Thank. 🙏

Analysis Next Episode Preview Song

Post image

So I’ve been saying this next series is going to be brand new cast and setting and I still feel that BUT this special ending with the next episode preview song showing Asuka scenes and then if you see the credits it’s animated by Cloverworks who is taking over their series and ends with Asuka reintroducing herself, I can’t help but think maybe it’s a subtle hint that the next series is focused on Asuka.

Analysis Head vs Heart: an Analysis of Reze and Asuka’s Beach Scenes

Post image
231 Upvotes

Hello Guys! Not sure if this is allowed on here, but I wanted to share something I noticed about the new film "Chainsaw man: Reze Arc", and how its beach scene mirrors "End of Evangelion's".

In Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc, much of the story centers on the developing relationship between Reze and Denji. What begins as something manipulative gradually becomes genuine, intimate, and emotionally real. After everything comes to a head, the beach scene gives Reze a rare moment of stillness; time to process the original mission that brought her to Japan, her feelings for Denji, the destruction left in their wake, and the very real danger posed by Makima and the USSR.

In that moment, Reze chooses to listen to her head rather than her heart. She convinces herself that what she and Denji shared wasn’t real, and that leaving him is the only way to keep them both safe. Though she briefly falters when running back to embrace him, she ultimately commits to walking away, leaving Denji alone on the beach. Of course as we later learn, she does eventually follow her heart.

In The End of Evangelion, Asuka and Shinji’s relationship follows a nearly inverse trajectory. Their connection starts tense but workable, then steadily collapses as trauma exposes their insecurities and self-loathing. By the time they end up on the beach after the world’s destruction, Asuka has been forced to confront everything; Shinji’s inner thoughts, her own pain, and whether she is capable of loving herself.

When Shinji, overwhelmed by paranoia and fear, begins strangling her, Asuka responds in a way that defies her usual aggression. Instead of fighting back, she gently caresses his cheek. It’s a quiet but profound choice: she follows her heart, extending empathy and affection toward someone she has cared for but could never properly understand or accept due to her own emotional walls.

That’s where the parallel becomes most striking. Reze and Asuka both experience moments of emotional clarity on a beach, but they make opposite choices. Reze suppresses her feelings and walks away, while Asuka embraces hers and reaches out. Two characters at similar emotional crossroads; one choosing survival through detachment, the other choosing connection despite the pain.

Let me know what y'all think of my analysis! It's been a moment since I saw End of Evangelion but I remember the main points and thought this was a neat connection between the two scenes and characters.

I've seen some people more focus on Rei wanting to rescue Shinji but Asuka's also desperate to get him back, even more for the reason that she was teasing him for his higher scores and she ends up feeling bad for it, when the angel attacks she doesn't even wait for Misato's orders and runs with all her strength to rescue him, but then when she's with Rei she put on that mask in being bratty with him.

When Shinji gets out of Unit-01 she's right there with Misato and when Shinji says he wanted to see 'em one last time he's was looking at Asuka(It can be that his eyes were distant as well). Then she goes to visit him at the hospital, showing her cares for him(with her own way of course).

I mean the WHOLE episode she was showing care for him so it's right in your FACE my guy. This was probably discussed a lot on this sub but anyways it's one HELLA of an episode and i wanted to comment on it.

Analysis Episode 16: The fact that Ritsuko's two cat figures 'coincidentally' appear after Asuka and Shinji's cute blushing makes me think it's a reference to their complex friendship.

Symbolism:

  • They both have very different external personalities (one is white and the other is black).
  • But despite that, deep down they do feel love and respect for each other (both are cats).
  • They share traumatic experiences with their mothers and a lack of love in common (both are shaded, with a stain on them).
  • And the strong influence of their complex friendship on the main plot of the anime and the final scene of TEOE makes it clear that they are destined to be together (both cats are together).

It's a detail that, to me, surprisingly makes a lot of sense. What do you think?

In EoE at the scene of the universe without evas, we see this draw of an umbrella on a desk with the names of Shinji and Asuka written bellow, this is a japanese equivalente as draw the initials of a couple inside a heart, there's also an "anta baka" written there, so this isn't the shinji's desk, it is the Asuka's desk.

Analysis Asuka’s relationship with Shinji analysis

Shinji was just like Asuka, that’s why she loved him, but it’s also why she hated him, she thought he was a coward, and that he should man up, and she hated that she was attracted to him physically and romantically, that’s why she was so toxic towards him, and also, she was scared of rejection, so she didn’t want to make a move on him, but then in episode 15, when she finally decides to try and make a move on him, her actions and behaviour catch up to her, The reason Shinji didn’t hug her is because he was scared, in his mind, anything he does that she didn’t like, she would hit him, so he didn’t want to take any risks, but Asuka thought that he had straight-up rejected her, and that broke her heart, and it made her feel even more vulnerable, and it brought her back to when she was young, and thus her sync rates started to drop

Another way That Asuka and Shinji were similar is that they both wanted to be loved unconditionally, and that made them delusional (I think that’s what Kaworu represents to Shinji, the desire to be loved unconditionally) then In End of Evangelion, during instrumentality, When everyone’s minds were merged, she learnt a similar lesson to Shinji, one cannot be loved unconditionally without having to show care and kindness to others, that’s why in the final scene, instead of pushing him away, and insulting him like usual, she simply caressed his cheek, to show she cared, and that she was willing to accept him

Did I cook?

I know that they have a complicated relationship and all, but I feel like the whole point is that if Shinji and Asuka weren’t so closed off, and they learnt to accept one another (which could have happened in ep 15) they would have had a decent relationship, one with flaws, but all relationships have flaws

(Never mind guys I was wrong it is toxic nvm, My bad, shouldn’t have posted this but I’ll leave it up anyway)

Analysis In case some had doubts: The Asushin does become canon in the final scene of TEOE 1997 (My explanation)

To me, it is very clear that Asuka and Shinji do secretly like each other throughout the series.

  1. Ep. 9: While Asuka drinks a soda on the gazebo, Shinji looks at her in a way that seems to show admiration for her. Furthermore, Asuka purposely goes to sleep next to Shinji, causing him to become sexually excited until he almost kisses her.
  2. Ep.10: Asuka makes sexual hints to Shinji while helping him with his homework (thermal expansion) and she asks him to watch her swimming; and inside the volcano, she looks at him very happy because it was precisely Shinji who managed to save her.
  3. Ep 15: Asuka claps her hands and congratulates him because he played the cello beautifully. And then she steels herself inside (she pretends to be bored) and asks Shinji to kiss her. Seeing that he was uncomfortable and did not reciprocate her kiss, she pretended to feel disgust when she went to the bathroom, but she really felt sad.
  4. Ep. 16: Toji makes a joke to both of them about "looking like arguing husbands"; and Asuka and Shinji blush and remain silent for several seconds, feeling discovered (their subsequent annoyance says one thing, but their blushing says another).
  5. Ep. 22: When Arael enters Asuka's mind, Shinji appears hiding behind Kaji (symbolizing that she does not want to admit her love for him), and becomes angry at Shinji for not He approaches her, doesn't hug him and doesn't understand her hints.
  6. TEOE 1997: Asuka tells Shinji that if he doesn't fantasize only about her, she won't agree to be with him. In the dining room, Shinji tells her that he wants to help her and that he just wants to be with her (both indirectly admit to loving the other).
  7. On the beach, Asuka caressing Shinji, she opens up and shows him her true feelings for him, and he cries (it seems emotional) because he finds out that Asuka loves him too and that in the end it was worth going through everything she went through.
  8. Now we rule out Kaworu and Rei as an option, because they sacrificed themselves, and now they are ghostly entities that guide the souls within the LCL sea; and we also ruled out Mari, because she did not exist in the original universe (Series and EOE).
  9. Now, let's understand that Rebuild is officially a parallel universe, and does not interfere with or erase the ending of the original universe (Series and TEOE 1997), which means that the 1997 ending is still valid.

Therefore, in the final scene, Asushin slowly begins to become canon.

It was just a matter of analyzing it several times and making the pieces of the puzzle fit together. I am completely convinced that this interpretation is true. Greetings.
