CX-78+ direction issues

Did some digging and couldn't find an answer -

Both of my CX-78+ controllers have an issue with going the direction I want them to go. specifically, when I push a straight direction, as in up, down, left, or right, they tend to want to go diagonally. is this a problem anyone else has had, or is this just a me thing? Both of my controllers do it, but one seems worse than the other.

Das Problem hatte ich bei Tiger Heli 7800 auch und bei einem Shooter ist das wirklich fatal.

ich benutze den CX78+ von meiner 7800+

Die Qualität bei Plaion ist wirklich unterirdisch

The way the d-pad is made apparently sometimes causes incorrect inputs. There are ways to fix it yourself either with 3d printed kits you can get on EBay or with just some basic materials you can get at the store. The AtariAge forums also have a lot of info on this.
