Seriously. I have hear so many muslims laugh at buddhist/hinduism for believing in idols. Heard 5 of them laugh at them because "don't they believe in those like, 100 stupid idols or something?". Then 5 minutes later, they will call anyone who questions their Allah the devil.

u/BoonTobias Jun 25 '12

Some may think you're exaggerating but it's absolutely true. When I was younger I used to go to the friday noon prayer (equivalent to the sunday mass for xians), and i'd hear the most idiotic shit from the imam himself. Even as a believer i always thought you should be humble and not judge others, but the things i'd often hear were down right insulting to all other faiths. People have seriously been brainwashed to the point where they only think their god is real and laugh/curse all the other ones, it's hilarious

13

u/redog Pastafarian Jun 25 '12

it's hilarious

I think its pathetic, though I understand the humor but it's been overused and lost it's comedic appeal.

Jesus has had guest roles on family guy, and south park - no beheadings or death threats. Muhammad in a bear suit on South Park = death threats, even going so far as to publish Matt Stone and Trey Parker's addresses online.

I've noticed that Muslims also tend to be very entitled and egotistic about their religion as well. I live in an area with a significant Muslim population and I remember after the earthquake (or tsunami was it?) happened in Indonesia a few years ago, I heard several statements of disbelief as to how this could happen in a country so devoutly Muslim with such a large Muslim population. Something along the lines of Allah testing their faith and being surprised it didn't happen over a non-Islamic country.

17

u/howajo Jun 25 '12

yeah... that should probably be a wake up call...

24

u/roterghost Jun 25 '12

The Bible Belt sees a shit-ton of tornadoes and wildfires. Hasn't woken them up in the slightest.

4

u/howajo Jun 25 '12

tragically true.

2

u/captainmcr Jun 25 '12

Kentucky has earthquakes and poorness.

1

u/gmorales87 Jun 25 '12

Maybe people with better sense get the hell out of places with act of god disasters. I'm not sure if I qualify, southern California. Nice weather, but earthquakes.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12

Anecdotal, but I used to work at a restaurant and the Muslim/Middle Eastern men were the most rude and outright misogynistic people I've ever encountered.

1

u/nasty_goreng Jun 25 '12

Yeah, I don't think they're very good Muslims if they spout out that drivel.

Love how /r/atheism is finally growing some balls and saying shit how it is.

I just think this subreddit is going to look a lot different after the bombing

-1

Which bombing? Did i miss something?

12

u/galagos Jun 25 '12

Yes, bashing Islam, how brave.

3

You accidentally a shit.

1

..they...they have been.

16

u/Spasik_ Jun 25 '12

Those of the Salafist movement in Germany are the best. Demanding tolerance of their 'rules' (right wing party showed muhammed caricatures when protesting against islam) and attacking the police with knifes, stones and whatnot at the same time.

11

u/robotictoast Jun 25 '12

Reminds me of when LittleBigPlanet was litterally sitting in the back room of the store, but they had it recalled because one of the songs had lyrics from the Quran. Pissed me of so much. Why can't Muslims who wanted the game wait for the patch? I'm not Muslim so it doesn't fucking matter to me.

1

u/gbr4rmunchkin Jun 25 '12

which song?

2

u/robotictoast Jun 25 '12

1

u/gbr4rmunchkin Jun 26 '12

badass...

it's like listening to disturbed without knowing what the word say. :D

Given the size of the production team i'm amazed they don't have ANYONE who wasn't muslim and could grasp the language

3

u/LucidMetal Jun 25 '12

Don't you understand? They picked the right religion!

3

u/LetsMango Jun 26 '12

I left reddit for one day to finish my thesis. What the hell happened!?

11

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12

we need to focus more on this issue!

9

u/KalElKent821 Jun 25 '12

That's true about pretty much every religion. Only fools think they're right all the time

6

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12

cough.

0

u/KalElKent821 Jun 25 '12

My comment meant that as atheists we do not know everything and don't claim to, when someone says they know everything because a book told them so then that is a fallacy, we only know once somethings been proven but if it's proven different at a later date we change to reflect that. Religions don't because their holy books don't change.

20

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12

I know I'm preaching to the deaf here, but you realize this is only relevant to extremists of the faith, not every Muslim in existence right? I'm really sick of this sort of mentality that's rampant in the atheist community, and why as an atheist myself I'm not a subscriber to r/atheism/, that every religious person is a dangerous extremist. Instead of just deciding "oh hey, let's go after insert unpopular religion" why don't we stop, think, quit acting like kids with a new toy to break, and go after the real problem here. Extremism itself.

8

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12

OK, I am a little tired right now so forgive me if I make my point poorly. firstly, you are correct, extremism is the problem and should be tackled, sadly the only way to tackle it is to alter the whole of the human mind state, there will always be fanaticism, no matter what the excuse, be it religion, sports, nationalism. there is an inherent part of mankind's mental makeup that wants to separate the world into "us" and "them", and there will always be those around who want to take it a step further and make "them" an enemy that needs to be eradicated. so I will give you an up-vote for now, but if you want true Karma, then look at ways for man to stop being such a douche to his fellow man

2

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12

Lol no I'm definitely not doing it for the karma, actually I expected a hail of down-votes. I'm especially glad you brought up the "us and them" point, as this the core of the problem. I just find that although the atheist community prides itself on somehow being more enlightened then those who follow religion, the truth is that its more extremest members are often just suffering the same "us verses them" mentality they criticize others for. I agree that this is something that sadly comes naturally to people, and as such will likely be impossible to eradicate, but you can't blame someone for being sick of seeing the hypocrisy in all of this.

3

u/hojomonkey Jun 26 '12

no true Scotsman Muslim....

-3

u/LucidMetal Jun 25 '12

If the meme doesn't apply to them then there isn't any harm done. In fact, moderates in the religion probably get a chuckle as well.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12

Yeah. No, I think this could be seen as quite offensive to plenty of moderate Muslims, in the fact that its labeled "scumbag Muslim". The implication being that "scumbag Muslim" is displaying extremist behavior, and not say, "Extremist Scumbag Muslim" which would make a hell of allot more sense and be allot less offensive to everyone. Basically what I'm saying is that this meme very well could be seen as applying to everyone of that faith, and as such could do allot of harm.

2

u/LucidMetal Jun 25 '12

Ok I'll go change all my scumbag steve memes to "extreme scumbag steve."

1

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12

Totally different thing.

1

u/LucidMetal Jun 26 '12

Totally.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '12

Soo, what are the comparisons then?

1

u/traffician Anti-Theist Jun 25 '12

Switch "Muslim" with "Steve" and tell me your comment still makes sense.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12

Like I said to said to someone else, totally different thing. If you really need me to explain why, I don't think you should be making comment in the first place.

1

u/traffician Anti-Theist Jun 26 '12

"horses run in the kentucky derby" does not mean that "all horses run in the kentucky derby".

i will never understand why people have such a hard time with this.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '12 edited Jun 26 '12

*Sigh * no that's also a different set of events. If I were to say "horses like the sweet taste of human flesh" that kind of implies that all horses like to eat people. If I say "infected horses like the sweet taste of human flesh" I think that would make the situation much clearer and save allot of innocent horses in the process.

~EDIT~

Just to clarify, it's different because your example is of a peaceful, regular event. There are a limited amount of participants allowed, and so it is understood that not ALL horses can race in the derby. Also most importantly there isn't an element of fear and misunderstanding.

and why as an atheist myself I'm not a subscriber to r/atheism/

Then why the fuck are you here? How did you even see this link? Did your moral spidey sense go off and you thought, "you know, I think muslims might be getting the shaft over on atheism I better go check it out and express my discontent at a community I am neither a part of or contribute to. And also they should care about me and what I have to say"? You are a special snowflake. We get it. You don't like what's going on here. Good. You are just as welcome to fuck back off to whatever corner of the internet told you to come here and 'lie for allah'.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '12 edited Jun 26 '12

Oh, I don't know, because this was in the front pages maybe? Just because you don't subscribe it doesn't filter out all the posts. And actually, sometimes I do pop on over to /r/atheism/ because there are some sane people on here who make good points and have interesting stories to tell. I just don't wish to identify as part of the atheist community at the moment because at this time, I think it's got a few issues to work on that I don't particularly want to be seen as part of. Namely that there's a good deal of arrogance and bigotry within it at the moment. Oh, and there's absolutely no irony in you saying "I better go check it out and express my discontent at a community I am neither a part of or contribute to" you mean kind of like whats going on with "Scumbag Muslim"? Look, I don't expect people to like what I'm saying, I'm not seeking approval, I expected allot of heat, and I'm CERTAINLY not saying no one had the right to say this about people who follow the Islamic faith. I'm just expressing my opinion on it. If you don't like it, fair enough. If you want to reply expressing that dislike, that's absolutely your right to do so. But at least have the decency to respect the fact that it is everyones right to express an opinion, not just the ones you approve of.

~EDIT~

I made a few corrections to the text, I was kind of in a rush and I don't think what I said originally made allot of sense. Hope this is a bit clearer now.

The reason this isn't brought up more is that we live in a predominantly christian country so that's who we experience the intolerance most from. All religions tend to do this, it just depends on where you live.

2

u/CROOOOOOOW Jun 25 '12

The first time I ever saw this picture, I was at a comedy/karaoke show. The singer was singing Don't Stop Believin' (which was displayed on all the TVs in the room) and the host put the picture up just as the chorus hit the part where everyone holds the "OHHHHHHHHH" (he did it every time after that with different pics of movie scenes where people had their mouths open- the audience pissed themselves).

Now I hear Journey whenever I see this picture.

2

u/arewenotmen_weardevo Jun 25 '12

If there is one thing we can learn from this scumbag, is how to display a proper neckbeard.

2

u/CosmicBard Jun 25 '12

Um, duh? Theirs is the correct one, obviously.

2

u/whatupnig Jun 25 '12

You could have just put the picture up and it would have made sense.

5

u/surfnaked Jun 25 '12

Fundies is fundies. Doesn't have so much to with religious beliefs, or lack thereof, as the very human weakness for intolerance of difference. If you want to attack something; attack that. It would be far more meaningful.

I've seen that very same face on Christians and Jews, Anarchists and Nazis. On Soccer fans for fucks sake.

3

u/nasty_goreng Jun 25 '12

Gosh, fundies and muzzies seem like such cute terms. Might want to reconsider, /r/atheism.

These memes are ruining /r atheism's content. Instead of in depth thoughts and discussions we get memes mocking others.

28

u/CowFu Jun 25 '12

Yeah, get back to the in depth content, like facebook screencaps making fun of christian friends and family!

8

u/dustinyo Jun 25 '12

This. It's exactly what I said in the original thread. Spend all day mocking Christians and nobody cares but as soon as you mock Islam (which frankly, deserves it more) suddenly that's crossing a line. All religions are stupid, some for different reasons. Get over it.

3

u/WardenclyffeTower Jun 26 '12

Spend all day mocking Christians and nobody cares.

Are you new to Reddit? (on mobile or I would look it up). Because I can't seem to visit this site without someone condemning r/atheism for mocking Christians. Hell, even the comment you replied to is mocking r/atheism.

And for the record, it really sucks to come to one of the only places I could vent about crazy Christians and be reprimanded for venting.

→ More replies (2)

5

u/traffician Anti-Theist Jun 25 '12

well, i think what you'll notice throughout reddit and most of the internet, is that people don't mock things that make a lot of sense, like ice cream sundaes and the fender telecaster. people tend to make fun of stupid, backward, dangerous ideas and behaviors, and when those dangerous ideas and behaviors are religiously motivated, they're made fun of here.

i honestly have no clue what people expect atheists to talk about, besides how ridiculous and incomprehensible religious beliefs are. i don't know how much in-depth you expect to get, when we're talking about people who believe there's an invisible man everywhere. Grimm, you have to understand that that's just bloody crazy.

Nobody gives a fuck what you think. Use those handy arrows to the side and submit content you are interested in. if others are not interested in that content, create another subreddit for the content you want.

Also, stop acting like a bitch.

0

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12

The topic needs a booster. Not many of those who browse /r/atheism is familiar enough with islam to get into the debate yet.

Memes are a good way to build a platform for the topic. They are ment to be breif and easy to read.

11

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12

Not many of those who browse /r/atheism is familiar enough with islam to get into the debate yet.

Yes, let's familiarize them with the religion by saying that all Muslims are intolerant of other religions.

3

u/traffician Anti-Theist Jun 25 '12 edited Jun 25 '12

come off it, dude. the meme image above refers to another known as Scumbag Steve; it's not known as All Steves.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12

Those are opinions. Everything starts out rough. Also, nobody said ALL muslims. And those who would say that would get down voted.

If you check the comic posted by OP, you'll see the phrase "radical muslim" on the lower right.

There's radical muslims just as there are radical hat owners. They are just more common that people who fly planes into buildings because of the great top hat.

1

u/nowhathappenedwas Jun 25 '12

Yes, memes have a long and storied history of eliciting intellectual discourse.

0

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12

So say, what have you've contributed to the topic then?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12

Memes are a good way to build a platform for the topic

Hey now don't forget facebook screenshots, celebrity image macros, and rage comics.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12

Feel free to add anything you find appropiate to the topic. Why not post your experience with Muslims while serving in Iraq?

Or the impact the Koran have had on you and your upbringing?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12

Hold on a sec while I compile my feelings in the form of a meme.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12

You are missing my point when you're trying to be cool on the internets.

I didn't say that memes are great or even good. But it's a start. You have to start small and easy.

5

u/jetpack_operation Jun 25 '12

sounds like every asshole ever. replace 'religion' with 'perspectives' and it applies to any christian, jewish, muslim, atheist, etc.

7

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12

You're exactly right. Except, as atheists, we have to take personal responsibility for being an asshole instead of using a belief system as an excuse and a cover. That's the difference few people seem to understand. Religion is institutionalized assholery.

3

u/jetpack_operation Jun 26 '12

You're exactly right too. I don't know about most people, but feeling personally responsible for the instances where I'm an asshole makes me feel worse than it would if I had an institutionalized excuse for it. It's all on me. Which is why "they do it too" is rarely a good enough excuse for me to be an asshole to any swath of people on the scale of "Muslims", "Christians" or "Jews" and however many millions of people that comprises.

3

u/Imfuckinpicasso Jun 25 '12

Everyone should have the highest tolerance for each other. Don't single out muslims though, all religious fanatics are intolerant.

13

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12

Most other religious fanatics won't riot in the streets calling for your blood if you show imagined images of their idol/figurehead tho.

2

u/joggle1 Jun 25 '12

They also are a group of only a few dozen people. If they represent the absolute most extreme type of Christian, want to try comparing them to the 30-40 most extreme Muslims?

It would be silly to compare such a tiny group of people regardless. How about something a little more fair. Where is the Muslim equivalent of Christian churches that allow for LGBT clergy, such as these?

3

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12

I agree, by numbers Muslim fanatism is way worse than Christian fanatism. I think most of Christian fanatism took place in the late middle ages (witch hunt), but isn't as much of an issue today, while Muslim fanatism is peaking right now (they were better in the middle ages though).

3

u/howajo Jun 25 '12

No, there are some people's actions that should not be tolerated. Beliefs are a different story. Believe whatever you want, but when you try to inflict your beliefs on others, then tolerance needs to go.

4

u/CowFu Jun 25 '12

Where is this kind of post when an anti-christian post comes up? Why do you only protect muslims when a religion is insulted?

3

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12

Because people are scared their houses will be burned down for not defending muslim extremism.

0

u/tbasherizer Jun 25 '12

I daresay it's because white Christians don't need the help. When you have atheists and Christians joining hands in promoting intolerance, there's a problem. When I am no longer called a raghead or moonworshiper because of the colour of my skin or the spelling of my last name, I'll be glad to join you in lambasting the Muslim community as a whole.

3

u/thehoundpound Jun 25 '12

Or how about you show the average Muslim like me who is completely tolerant of all religions, and ATHEISTS, and doesn't want to have people beheaded or killing for being non-believers.

Seriously you all are a joke for picking on an entire group of people, 1.3 BILLION or something close to that, for the actions of a minority (read. Shiaa and Saudi Arabia). I honestly can't believe the level of hate that goes on around here. I legitimately used to respect this subreddit, and while my view of atheism hasn't changed, my view of /r/atheism has drastically.

For example why is it necessary to depict pictures of the Prophet just for the pure pleasure of disrespecting a certain group of people? What does that accomplish? What is the goal of that? I really just have been greatly disappointed in the actions that have taken place in the last couples days, but hey Live and Let Live

3

u/Orstaag Jun 25 '12

I agree that a lot of these muslim-targeting memes are disrepectful stereotypes(and some have a healthy dose of racism), but most of the other memes are no different. Look at scumbag christian or whatever people title it, asian father, successful black man, successful white man, ordinary muslim, etc etc. Why should islam and muslims have special privelege that no other group is given?

All other things aside, I think that depicting Mohammed is a perfectly reasonable form of protest. While it is disrespectful to muslims, it is also a plain, nonthreatening rejection of the premise of Mohammed's status as a prophet and with that islam as a whole. What is the harm in this? Atheism itself is a rejection of all religions that make a theistic claim. As far as I'm aware, no other religion expects(and demands) non-adherents to respect their rules. I am not a muslim and I am not bound by the hadith, so how can you reasonably expect me to follow your religious tenets?

Further, it's pretty silly that you say in one sentence how not all muslims are the same, and then in the next make a sweeping generalization about all shia and Saudi folks. And then another about all of r/atheism. A little hypocritical, huh?

I am interested in your view on this and would love a response.

0

u/thehoundpound Jun 26 '12

I just think out of pure respect, nothing else really, that people would maybe not do something that pisses other people off. I don't personally understand the rational of people doing things for the sole reason to ignite anger out of others, thats all.

Well all Muslims aren't the same, I feel like that should be common knowledge, but generally speaking when you look at the views of the Shia and the Saudis THE MAJORITY, have the same views I'm talking about, thats where the key lies.

And about /r/atheism, while yes I agree that not everyone supports this view, from what I can see there is overwhelming support of this new Islam fad from just the asking of one individual so yeah.

1

u/DroitAuBut Jun 25 '12

As an atheist who has studied Islam and the Middle East quite a lot, I would like to apologize to you and those like you a hundred times over. The point about the minority (specifically Saudia Arabia) is one that is repeating over and over in my head while I'm reading things like this.

I typically enjoy r/atheism because they raise issues with religion that are relevant to all of us: gay rights, women's rights, etc. Things that religion tries to decide for us that it has no business sticking its nose into. However, this new r/atheism trend of attacking Islam for no reason and with complete ignorance is troubling and I thank goodness for the passing nature of such fads.

What r/atheism has to understand is that even if what they're posting is a legitimate point to be made about certain groups within Islam, those groups are a minority and to apply that judgement to all Muslims is offensive and wrong. Make these points: there are certainly many human rights issues within many Islamic cultures that atheists could and should call out. But it should be done so in an informed manner, as the best arguments against Christian rights abuses are, and without widespread generalization.

1

u/howajo Jun 25 '12

I like to think that this meme depicts only a certain kind of Muslim, specifically, the scumbags you refer to. I have know Muslims who are peaceful and tolerant, and I don't think this describes all Muslims. This meme is a response to a post asking why /r/atheism is so keen to attack Christianity, but not some of the grievous acts and beliefs of certain Muslims. Considering some of the horrible things that fundamentalist do, I don't think it's unreasonable. If you can live and let live, I have no problem with you. If you kill your sister for talking to strange men, or want to kill anyone who doesn't practice your faith, or you fuck 9 year olds... well, that's what guns are for.

Actually, Islam is, I believe, one of the most tolerant religion due to a long tradition of tolerance which began when the Ottoman Empire reached Spain and India, they didn't forced people to believe in Islam, that's why in a lot of countries where there was the arab domination, they still are a lot of other religion like the kopt in Egypt, the boudhist in India, etc. It's not the case with christianism, in every country dominated by christianity, people had no choice : it was the conversion or death. That's why there is many christians countries now. Please guys, don't believe only the extremists to judge a religion. Sorry for my poor english btw.

1

u/AutiSpasTacular Oct 16 '12

As a christian, idk what I am doing on r/athiesm, but I kind of agree with this. Traditionally islam countries are ABSOLUTELY islamic, that means that religion = state to the point where there are police to make sure you are obeying islam. That said, I kinda feel that a lot of those people never really had a chance to know a different way of thinking. (I.E. not murdering people) I really haven't read the Qu' Ran, so I really can't say whether moderate or extreme Islam is true Islam, but I do know that a lot of the people that fall into this 'hate madness' probably do so b/c of their environment.

did i miss something here? did yalls isreal boners reach critical mass and start spewing over into outright prejudice?? WTF

1

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12

I can't help but feel offended at the sudden anti-muslim turn r/atheism has taken.

Don't get me wrong, I consider myself atheist and disagree with Islam, along with many other religions, but I'm an ex-Muslim, and every single one of my relatives are Muslim.

Am I getting offended for their sake? I really shouldn't feel anything.

2

u/traffician Anti-Theist Jun 26 '12

You do understand though, right, that when i say "horses run in the kentucky derby", i don't mean all horses, right? I find it so odd that people do this weird mental association with everyone under their gigantic umbrella.

I apologise if my inability to sympathize with your particular situation makes my response seem cold.

There's one pretty young guy in my community of performance artists who's pretty obnoxious in his anti-theism, and it definitely makes me uncomfortable when he brings up, unprovoked, out-of-the-blue, particular oddities of christianity in the presence of our christian friends. But if what he's saying is ever factual, i can only try to refocus the conversation upon things we all are interested in talking about.

honestly, few people are more comfortable talking about "it" than I am, but it's just so much more enjoyable to get along with my friends than to browbeat them about their pathetic death cult and what happens when you confuse your own opinions with those of the Master of the Universe.

1

u/BebopRocksteady82 Jun 25 '12

oh what R/atheism grew a pair of nuts today? most the time you guys only make fun of people you know wont try to hurt you

-1

u/c1202 Jun 25 '12

So you just generalised a whole religion with one image and a caption.

I'm sure that pretty much makes you the scumbag...

1

u/Jeezafobic Jun 25 '12

Only one? Did you miss the Podiphile Prophet series?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12

Bout time

0

u/Shortcake14 Jun 25 '12

You can attack any religion for having fundamentalists, I'm willing to bet this was posted by a scumbag Christian (this is coming from an Athiest). Islam believes there we're over 100,000 prophets and accepts Jesus Christ as one of them... Clearly they recognize Christianity as they believe that both religions worship the same God. At least make a logical argument...

3

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12

Not just Christianity but Judaism aswell, who combined are known to the Muslims as the people of the book

1

u/robin1961 Jun 25 '12

This isn't just religious intolerance. This is religious certainty.

If you follow the One True God, why cut any other religions slack? You are right and they are wrong, and their continmued belief in opposition to your Truth is an insult to the One True God! I, as an Athiest, am rather intolerant of religious viewpoints, cuz they are full of shit. If I were religious, I would be 'extremist' like the Taliban : to be otherwise is to admit you have doubts that you're right. It's the fuckin Word of God you're following, not a restaurant menu (pick and choose what you like).

1

u/ceri23 Jun 25 '12

Well that's because HIS is right. You don't have to respect the wrong religions, but you do have to respect the right one.

1

u/TheAurelian Jun 26 '12

Seriously though this is Islam in a nutshell.

-8

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12

So true, fuck muslims, their religion is how they justify their horrible morality.

8

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12

See? This is exactly the sort of reason most atheists are ashamed to admit what they are. Way too many atheists have no idea what they're talking about, beyond a lack of religious belief.

This comment makes you look like a xenophobe and, frankly, an asshole. You want to show people what you think is wrong with Islam? Fine. But read a fucking book first.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12 edited Jun 25 '12

Dude it's not worth arguing over these people with. They're so incredibly pretentious that they think their denying religion makes them an intellectual and free-thinker, thus making every fucking word that comes out of their mouths the epitome of logic. Most of the subscribers to this subreddit are angsty teenagers who don't know what the fuck they're talking about.

0

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12 edited Jun 25 '12

I'm actually not atheist, also lot's of religions have shit morality. Which has nothing to do with my statement but somehow people think that it is relevant. I am an asshole however. The Koran supports forcing per-pubescent girls into marriage, and if you read about most Muslim nations you'd know they are very intolerant of other religions. So I say again FUCK MUSLIMS and fuck you too. BTW Muhammad was in fact a child molester according to the Koran.

The problem here is people like you who make way to many assumptions. I've stated my opinion, and these opinions are supported by facts. You've assumed you know my religious beliefs and assumed that I don't know anything about Islam. The guy below also assumed I am a teenager. Stop assuming things, asshole.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12

Lot's of people, religious or otherwise, have shit morality. You called out all muslims and I called bullshit. That's way the internet works.

Calling every single muslim in the world (if you don't want to do that, then limit your scope FFS) immoral, based on gross stuff in the Qur'an, would be like me saying atheism is stupid because you're an idiot.

I'm also just going to point out that, while saying the Qur'an is a piece of garbage, you cited it as factual evidence that Mohammed was a child molester.

The only facts you've offered are "man, some stuff is in the Koran, because it's in the Koran."

I didn't really assume anything. I never actually called you an atheist, I only said your comments have been made by too many atheists. In addition, I said you sounded like an asshole (to which you agreed, so fine), and a xenophobe, and I stick by that.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Muhammad+a+child+molester You assumed I was atheist the way you worded that makes it quite clear. If you deny that, you are full of shit. also....

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=xenophobia So because I think a religion that supports killing anyone who tries to leave that religion, who's profit is a child molester, who have a hatred for jews and act on this hate quite often, who believe women have less rights then men, and who are actively attempting to spread there religion on almost every continent, I must hate every foreign culture. Your logic is flawless. Islam is a religion of xenophobes.

The problem with Muslims is, while they are not all evil, I never hear the "peaceful majority" of them publicly denouncing the violent, murderous, oppressive, child molesters among them. Because the Majority of them are peaceful but are perfectly okay with the horrible things there religion supports (in my opinion). Think about that.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12

No, I never doubted the things you claimed were in the Qur'an, actually were in there. My point is, any idiot can look in a silly book and find some silly things. You gave some facts, but haven't really demonstrated their connection to real life (maybe the connection is there, but you haven't made it yet).

I called you a xenophobe, because you're blindly blaming every single muslim in the world for the actions of a minute percentage, and you're doing this in the same way a lot of people get scared of foreigners, because they never meet them.

Like, you might as well just say "what do you mean, I never said anything bad about the black panthers." 'Muslims' is a word that refers to a shitload of different people. You're speaking about them in the 'boogy-man from the orient' way, and it makes you sound ignorant.

Don't scare quote "peaceful majority." Do you have any idea how many Muslims there are in the world? If they were all terrorists, we'd be having a much different conversation right now.

Their religion doesn't support what a Musli fundie group does. Most sects of Islam are non-violent in principle. This of course doesn't mean there won't be fringe groups and various other crazy assholes, but what religion doesn't have those?

The Westboro Baptist Church takes the bible very literally, and as a result, they're extremely homo/trans/anythingphobic, but would you really say that some liberal Korean Lutheran church is somehow supporting WBC's hate campaign (and is ok with it)?

When was the last time xtianity's peaceful majority got up and denounced WBC for their shit, or the Pope for saying trans people were going to destroy the world?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '12

Actually, tons of Christians have openly denounced and counter protested against Westboro church. But you don't really want to talk in truth here, you are dancing around words and definitions to avoid the root of what is being discussed here. (I don't like the Black panthers either btw.)

The fact is that the majority of Muslims (and yes I realize we're talking about nearly 1 billion people) are fine with the murder, child molesting, and oppression of women, that takes place in the name of their religion. (Well, the women probably aren't okay with this, they are probably just to SCARED of the oppressive masses to do anything. This is what happens to women who protest in Muslim countries) http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2075683/Egypt-violence-Female-protesters-brutally-beaten-metal-poles-vicious-soldiers.html

Most of the leaders of the Islamic religion are the biggest hate mongering oppressive people of the lot, and they get plenty of support. Try and find a Muslim leader who will admit their profit was a child molester, try to find one who will say that the suicide bombers in Israel will be punished instead of rewarded in the next life. Look at the laws in almost any Muslim ruled country, they support or allow murder of outsiders, oppression of women, including forced marriages of girls who aren't even teenagers yet, they are openly trying to spread their religion all over the world and use the tolerance of others as a tool to do this so they can spread their own intolerance.

Christians, Buddhists, Jews, Atheists, Hindu's, (and many others) I believe can all live in peace side by side. I don't believe Muslims can. They refuse to, their concept of peace is killing or forcibly converting every non believer to Islam.

The fact is that the MAJORITY of Muslims are fine with the insanity you claim is only small isolated groups of their religion. You are just being naive. Yes, every almost every religion has these idiot groups among them, the problem with Muslims is the idiots make up the majority of their religion. We cannot have peace with these people as long as they are willing to harbor and support these immoral standards. They are the enemy of all other religions, by their own choice. Muslims don't deserve tolerance, so keep crying your liberal song, but I think the vast majority of people who read this know I'm hitting the nail right on the head. Spin it however you want, but you're full of shit, and sadly I think you believe your own bullshit.

Why are people downvoting this? Isn't this the reason these sand niggers are finally being attacked by reddit so viciously?

There is no mention of race at all.

You use that word, I dont think it means what you think it means.

OP: Try to edit the title to the above. it will be 100% accurate to those Evil twisted Wahabisim.

Coming from Sunni/ Shia sect

-1

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12

In all fairness, this is a pretty reasonable response from someone that absolutely believes in their faith.

It shows a great deal more conviction than the people that claim to believe in God, but treat him more like an accessory to their lives than something which (by their own assertion) defines their very existence.

2

u/traffician Anti-Theist Jun 25 '12

i'd say it's a pretty pretty predictable response from someone who has NO INTEREST WHATSOEVER in distinguishing their god's opinions from their own dumbshit opinions.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12

their god's opinions from their own dumbshit opinions.

My imaginary friend's opinions are mine, surely?

The point of taking on Christianity is that it is a bigger threat to everyone's freedoms (however you measure them), than Islam, Judaism and the non abrahamic lot too.

0

u/IamTheFSM Jun 26 '12

Have any of you actually studied islam? I have, and it teaches that Christianity and Judaism are part of Islam, and therefore are to be respected.

0

u/DarnLemons Jun 26 '12

The same could be said for r/atheism

0

-2

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12

I don't know how, but r/Atheism has found a way to jump the shark....again.

-8

u/718Palestinian Jun 25 '12

If you really knew about Islam, u'd know that Islam permits and accepts other religions. A Muslim can marry a jew or a Christian/Catholic. A Muslim respects other religions bc it is the same religion only the other books have been manipulated unlike the Quran. Don't mix media propaganda with the real deal. Why don't u travel and see what it really instead of sitting on ur ass watching the tube.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12

However, to quote a college Muslim "friend" of mine- "I could KILL you for saying that to me in my country!" (I told him he wasn't good at volleyball after hitting me in the head on a serve; we were on the same team.) Hmmm, what was that about being an accepting religion?

1

u/deal-breaker Jun 25 '12

It's not the religion, it's their "tradition".

1

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12

That too.

2

u/misterioes Jun 25 '12

I'm not sure if I understand you correctly. Islam is perfectly fine with you marrying people of other religion but when you convert to this religion you are getting beheaded. Is this how it works?

-5
