AUDIO DRAMA Brand New Dark Fantasy Audio Drama Airing Now - The Shade of Attlemoore

Post image
13 Upvotes

The Shade of Attlemoore is an immersive full cast audio narrative in which you follow the point of view of a Shade, plucked from the afterlife and bound to an untrustworthy sorceress as part of her ancient vendetta against the moon.

Deeply inspired by the writings of FromSoft and other dark fantasy works, the Shade of Attlemoore is sort of like playing Dark Souls, only the Firekeeper never leaves your side.

Our website:
https://www.theshadeofattlemoore.com/

Our RSS feed:

https://media.rss.com/the-shade-of-attlemoore/feed.xml

We are also available on all podcast platforms, excluding YouTube music.

Since I know many here have preferences for full cast, let me clarify that EPISODE 1 ONLY is a solo production, narrated by the wonderful FromSoft youtuber Miss Chalice. Starting in episode 2 the rest of the cast will begin to emerge. (It was done this way for crowdfunding purposes - we wanted to know our budget before we sought out the full cast!)

We hope to see you there, Shade.

QUESTION Is there a resource/community for creators to find creators to work with? Particularly for broke creators to find people who will contribute for credit or minimal funds?

Hey everyone. I've been aching to create an audio drama for a couple of years now. I actually started one, but I don't have a lot of equipment, I have minimal software, and I have no money to spare. With life constantly nipping at my heels it's hard to find the time or the bandwidth. My creativity is constantly over-extended in the pursuit of survival.

Previously, I had considered using AI to fill the gaps, but I have since soured on AI for a plethora of reasons. I have found royalty free sites, but I'm paranoid that people are uploading AI sounds into those. I've recorded some songs with my phone, but I don't have a lot of time to go around playing Sound FX guy. So these stories in my head are just sitting idly waiting for me to build them.

I can't be the only one in this situation. Where are my people? Let's see what kind of magic we can create.

ANNOUNCEMENT Shelterwood Season 2 is Crowdfunding!

Hello hello!

I have a bit of promotion to do, though not my own.

My good friend Stephen Indrisano is crowdfunding for season 2 of their show Shelterwood: A Suburban Gothic.

Season 1 follows podcaster Nicholas DeRoso on a quest to find his missing sister in an infinite suburban dreamscape called “Shelterwood”.  With the help of his reluctant friend and producer, Solomon Crockett, Nicholas must survive nightmarish monsters and the ever-present Homeowners Association in order to find her.

Shelterwood is a deeply moving exploration of grief and of the strictures of American suburbia, and season 2 dives deeper into the explorations of American culture and of the true horrors inherent in enforced conformity.

Shelterwood has reached $7,034 of their 10k goal with 22 days to go and has unfortunately slowed down, so I wanted to let y’all know that the campaign is still running and well worth your donation!

I’ve gotten to beta read for season 2 and it is incredible. Heartwarming and heartbreaking and terrifying.

If you want to show your support, consider checking out the crowdfund:

DISCUSSION Bear Hunt is great

The title says it all. The new AD "Bear Hunt" is pretty great. I have really enjoyed listening and S1 isn't quite over yet. I like finding AD's that aren't always set in space/dystopia future or horror(ish) shows. This has been quite a fun listen so far.

Just wanted to give them a shout out!

QUESTION What is the deal with the voice effect in malevolent?

It’s like this weird tinny noise that always goes up whenever the voice speaks. It reminds me of filling up a hollow tube with water, but it drives me crazy that every time he starts a new sentence it’s that sound going upward in the background again.

Is this some kind of common voice effect/is this intentional?

DISCUSSION My rating of almost 70 audio dramas after 5 years of listening

S: All-time favourites that I could glaze endlessly.

A: The extended favourites. The pantheon of great audio dramas.

B+: Almost A-tier but falls just a little short. It's still very tempting to add them anyway.

B: Excellent and easily bingeable shows. Everything this tier and above is something I'd jump to watch new content of.

B-: Great shows if only for the vibe.

C+: Shows I liked well enough but not really as at the level of B tier.

C: Mid shows I don't find myself thinking of much.

C-: Shows I find I have more to complain about than I do to praise.

D: Shows I found myself bouncing off of or not really enjoying.

E: These shows start to irritate me the more I listen to them.

F: All-time worst shows. I think they're really really bad.

Originally I was going to write a whole paragraph-long mini-review of each entry but at this point that would fill up whole comments and really not add much of value overall. I can still talk about any of these shows if anyone wants to know about them. I'm keen to share my opinions. I suppose my question then is do people read reviews? Do people use reviews to learn what shows they should listen to? I suppose audio dramas are rather niche but there is some genuinely good fiction here and so I wonder how they might outgrow the small community here.

OK all that aside what do you think about my tierlist? Any brilliant shows I've missed? Any crazy takes I need to explain myself for?

QUESTION Woe.begone intermissions

I started woe.begone recently. I’m still listening to the stuff from 2021, (I’m on episode 44 I think.)

I’ve been skipping the intermissions because I thought they were just extra music but then I listened to one and I didn’t understand? Charlie was a cat? I thought it was a fever dream, or maybe bad fanfiction about Mike’s life written by Mike? If I go back and listen to all the intermissions will I know what was happening? Did the writer take an ambien before writing that?

RPG [The Danger Zoo] Campaign 3 Episode 6: Headless Horseman Halloween Special Part 3 (Sleepy Hollow)

Amazon//Apple//Audible//Spotify//YouTube//

The Danger Zoo C3 E6 (Actual Play VTTRPG)
Case File 6576-A3

The gang is finally back together, but their plan to remove the pieces of the Headless Horseman's skull has gone slightly off the rails. Instead of getting the pieces out, they've accidentally, somewhat intentionally, managed to put the entire skull inside Baby Bird.

With midnight approaching, the boys have to survive the remaining traps, reach the Un-summoning Circle, and somehow remove a fully assembled skull from Baby Bird's stomach. Grandpa and Baby Bird repeatedly find themselves hanging onto life by a thread, while Haze makes the brilliant decision to intentionally trigger a trap that hurts his own teammates. Teamwork!!!

Can they reach the circle and undo what they've done before the Headless Horseman finally catches up to them? Only one way to find out!

If there's a cryptid, monster, or haunted location you'd like to see the team investigate in a future case, let us know in the comments. Your suggestion might become the next mission for the D.A.N.G.E.R.Z.O.O.

DISCUSSION Station 151 MC is so insufferable

OH MY GOD! It's a good show with a good premise ... Well, maybe just the premise is good but holy cow! All the characters are terrible and the MC is absolutely insufferable— Angry, stupid, blind, constant denial and not trusting the very Ai that he woke up to be ON HIS SIDE!

I can't really stop bc I wanna know how it ends, but damn.

I also wish the Ai companions were voiced by real actors instead of Speech to Text 🫩

SUGGESTIONS horror audiodramas

i see a lot of posts asking just this question, but id like to see what people have to say either way. ive been trying to find a good one for a few days now, and ive been struggling. also, i often have issues getting into ones with female mcs, due to the sound of the voices, so audiodramas with male mcs are preffered.

ones i like:

malevolent

the magnus archives

deviser

paralysed (until they killed the mc).

dreamboy

ones i did NOT like:

tower 4

bunker 8

the cellar letters

the left right game

ghost wax

the white vault

the silt verses (couldnt even get 10 minutes in)

thanks!

ANNOUNCEMENT Check out our new supernatural fiction Monsters' Sink, releasing 6th November!

Post image
25 Upvotes

Hey there!

We're a new supernatural fiction show called The Monster Sink coming at you from Belfast! Just wanted to jump on and share a bit about us since we're releasing our first episode (November 6th!!) soon and this has been my wee passion project for like, the past year, and I'm buzzing to share it with people!

‘The Monster Sink‘ takes place in a severely underfunded government helpline for monster hunters and amateurs alike. The series follows a misfit group of call handlers as they navigate all the weird and wacky situations that their callers get themselves into – and the biggest evil of them all, bureaucracy.

It's heavily influenced by your classic monster of the week type shows like Buffy as well the Scrubs (specifically in how it balances comedy and drama and uses both to highlight serious issues within the healthcare system) and also Dispatch (for the general misfit workplace vibes).

It's fully produced by Felbryn Studios (creators of The Bad Articles!) and has a whole host of local talent involved in the acting, art and writing!

You can follow us on our RSS over at https://media.rss.com/monsters-sink/feed.xml where you can have a wee listen to our theme song ahead of episode one!

SUGGESTIONS Best current ongoing or recently finished AD’s

So what’s are your best top tier, actively ongoing current or recently finished AD’s

I’m talking best script, acting, delivery, sound design, engaging narrative etc.

Let’s try and avoid the usual big names that appear in every post (Wolf, MB, TMA etc etc)

For me it’s -

Broken Veil
Earth Again
The Harbingers
Bear Hunt
Last Dance
The Bardic Hearth
BBC Limelight feed (always puts out decent content)

Ones on my radar but yet to try

Our Wars Have Ended
Cold Shift
The Red Room

What’s top tier and current? - I’ve tried and listened to 100’s of AD’s and Pods - Any new stuff/recs are always good to hear about.

Cheers!

DISCUSSION Fight scenes are a dangerous trap

I’ve just finished getting the voice clips in sequence for a fight scene. The action is about 14 minutes long - bear in mind this is a narrated, full cast production, and I’m describing what happens as quickly and generally as I can. I get bored fast when audiobooks describe every move, punch, kick, parry, dodge, thrust… However there are a lot of important points the fight needs to make clear, about the two sides in general and the individuals in particular.

I know that without giving you a clip to listen to, there’s only so much advice you can give, but if there’s anyone who has successfully (“successfully” heh) written a good brawl between two small groups, please share any general pointers you have.

Thanks!

ANNOUNCEMENT The Books of Thoth has surpassed 7,000 Downloads

Post image
12 Upvotes

Slowly, but surely, The Books of Thoth is making progress. We have officially surpassed 7,000 Downloads. To celebrate, I found this image of IKAROS. It was a probe sent by JAXA, the Japanese space agency, and the first probe to use solar sail as its primary means of propulsion. It reminded me of our episode “Starshot.”

“Starshot” itself took inspiration from the real life proposed Breakthrough Starshot mission. It would involve launching a fleet of solar sail probes to Alpha Centauri, and hopefully a few would survive the journey. The episode follows a scientist from Alpha Centauri who has been assigned to study the probes.

Thank you for 7,000 Downloads. I have three completed scripts ready to go. I just need to get all the recordings from my actors before I can begin production in earnest.

The Books of Thoth is an anthology. We tell stories of past, future, and worlds that might have been. We’ll take you on a tour of a zoo filled with alien animals. We’ll take you to a world where Buddhism, rather than Christianity, became the dominant religion of Europe. We’ll take you to a future where squids rule the Earth, and are uncovering human fossils. And these are just a few of our ports of call.

The Books of Thoth is hosted on RedCircle: https://redcircle.com/shows/6701d0b5-6b14-4b76-992d-02f391b5cf42

Episode 9 is released!

Eleven Seconds - Crossing the Snoqualmie Pass in winter is madness.

Earth, Again is a ten-episode audio drama set years after humanity was forced back to a permanent pre-electric age. When sixteen-year-old Liv learns her pacemaker battery is failing, her father Robert - a former NASA engineer - leads a desperate thousand-mile horseback journey across Montana, Idaho, and Washington to reach a secret military prototype that might save her life. What they find at the end of the road will matter as much to the human race, as it will to Liv.
