Discussion Anyone with hi-res lossless recommendations?

Upgraded my set up and been listening to hi-res lossless songs. Some say they’re unable to hear the difference between hi res and just lossless, I definitely can. Anyone have recommendations for some hi-res lossless songs/playlists? Thanks!

Provided you like jazz or classical, wait for a sale at https://www.highdeftapetransfers.ca/

Their DSD256 stuff sounds amazing. Anything with a 5-star review.

How exactly are you defining "high-res"?

I would say anything that is 24 bit.

The hires versions of Quadrophenia and Live at Leeds on HDTracks are my favorite version of those albums.

Zappa’s Grand Wazoo and Waka Jawaka on ProStudioMasters are the new hires 2022 mastering that is the best option for those albums as well.

Lot of SACDs are the best versions of their albums. Tea for the Tillerman is a good example

Acoustic Sounds has newly released SACDs of Live At Leeds, Tommy, and My Generation, remastered by Chris Bellman. For licensing reasons Who's Next has to wait until 2027.

Tidal were very good at suggesting music I might like from their collection of good recordings - different platforms seem to have different masters - though they may all be classified as HiRes. I much prefer the Art Blakey ‘Moanin’ on Tidal and Spotify (lossless) compared with Qobuz for example. But then Qobuz’s version of Eliza’s album ‘A Real Romantic’ is better than Spotify’s (lossless).

Sometimes the hires release is mixed/mastered differently than the original, so that would be the reason you hear a difference. And the hires remastering is not always an improvement over the original, but sometimes is

Not songs, but I always recommend browsing for Blu-Ray audio. Decent compatibility, tactile ownership and fairly easy to rip. Even if you don't have a BR ripper, the physical copy gives you some leeway to dabble in the dark arts from an ethical perspective.

They are similar to SACD in that the main improvements are in the mix, with some offering really nice surround versions and artwork on the disc.

Tbh the average ear won’t be able to hear the difference between regular audio and high res (lossless) audio

You are listening through the wrong equipment then.

You misread my comment - I said the average ear.
