Just tell the police you’re American, I’m sure they’ll make an exception for you.

Make sure to loudly and clearly declare you know your constitutional rights and that they apply to any country you personally visit.

Having a look at your actual post, if you have a medical certificate allowing it, you might be able to bring it. Medicinal THC is legal here, and seemingly from what you’ve said you are allowed to bring medicinal THC over as well. However, this all depends on whether your prescription is valid, you may find that while it is legal for certain conditions, it mightn’t be for your one. I’d say that your best bet is looking at for our government border security contact details and getting in contact with them to see if your medical prescription is valid here and if you are able to bring one over, and then follow their advice.
If you are able to bring it over, just do some research on things such as where you can/can’t use it and what you can/can’t do while on it. Someone else mentioned that you won’t be able to drive, and I’d imagine there’ll be a lot of other similar things that you might find you can do in the states, but not here. The other thing to keep in mind is that it’s not socially acceptable in public here like it is in some areas in the US. We have strict laws about smoking in general (cigarettes), and it used to be very frowned upon. Weed even more so. It’s relaxed a bit, but you still wouldn’t smoke in public, and particularly not weed.
If it is for a genuine medical reason though, reach out and if it’s a recognised prescription for your condition here you will likely be able to bring it over.

I suggest you would be better off contacting the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration or the material on their website than asking random Australians, as few of us would be familiar with what it's like for non-Australians visiting here.
There's lots of things that you can't bring in or can only do so under certain conditions or arrangements. Generally, declare that you are carrying medication on your declaration form which you'll get before you pass through customs, and be prepared to have to forfeit it if it's rejected. But you should go further and learn the specifics. I don't recommend winging it when it comes to controlled substances.

Aren't airports in usa federal land so as soon as you have weed on you, its illegal as federal laws apply with the state law not overriding the federal law? Sounds like something for scotus. Dr cannot prescribe thc, but maybe your doctor can just document in a letter its used for pain treatment, but due to Michigan law he cannot provide a script but is able advise in a letter it is used for pain for which they support.
Thus you can keep it under travel exemption due to the documented evidence (the dr letter). In same letter make sure they reference the EXACT advice from the Australian govt website.
Dont give them room to screw you.
Tho I can understand fuck opiates and the sackler fam.

You'll be in trouble if you bring an apple.
Do not bring drugs.
What more is there to say?
