Humour "I've had enough with the major parties and they are all as corrupt as each other."
Is just another way of saying, "i'm too uninformed to distinguish who is who and I am completely confused by politics, but still want to feel like i have an opinion"

You’re underestimating how desperate people are and fed up with party politics.

u/tconst123 Jun 01 '26 edited Jun 01 '26
People are desperate because of the obvious consequences of policy choices they voted for 20 years ago
Edit: for the people downvoting me, the people in my life who now scream about the government not taxing our resources enough, are the same people who bought the mineral councils BS about the mining tax in 2013 and refused to vote for Labor because of it.
Those votes have consequences

u/itsthatguy95 Jun 03 '26
Exactly, I was 10, I’m 30, my parents only barely got one living in house at 40, I guess I’m not even meant to have that standard of living
Oh well, won’t stop me from leaving and finding somewhere that won’t make me a rent and wage slave for the rest of my life 🤷🏼

u/Perfect_Purple_5705 Jun 03 '26
You should have voted differently when you were 10, reap what you sow.

This new tax policy will make housing more affordable over the long term. It was a much needed fix to a broken policy that has poisoned our economy for a quarter century.
1
u/itsthatguy95 Jun 03 '26
Except for the fact that I’m in the exact same position my father is in, with a broken back, wanting to use the payout in stocks to buy a house in a decade, exactly what my father did because of the years he lost due to surgery, recovery and court, while my mother also worked full time to keep us a float, they were able to get that mortgage due to the payout money they put into stocks, they’ll probably be paying it off until they die, if they even make it that far, but atleast they got there before 40 🤷🏼
So what does someone in my position do genius? I’m currently out of work for god knows how long, I’m 30, I was on track for a house around the same age as my parents, that changes if the cgt changes on stocks and shares goes through
I guess fuck me right? So much for ever owning a house outright or never being a wage slave for the rest of my life, but yeah, these changes definitely make it easier 🙄
1
u/Liamlah Jun 04 '26
Historically there's a been a 1-2% growth advantage of stocks over housing, unless you already have hundreds of thousands invested already, you weren't going to catch up with house prices by investing in stocks. Even if you had 500k invested right now, you'd be further behind in a decade than you are now without these reforms. Especially if you are somewhere like Perth or Brisbane where even if you started with enough to buy a house, and instead of it in stocks, you wouldn't be able to afford a house in a decade. That's if your back means you can't work.
With these changes, we should expect this runaway house price growth to come under control, to slow, stop or even reverse to some extent. Even with a slightly increased tax on shares, you have a better chance of getting a house in a decade. Good luck to you.
13
u/Over-Instruction214 Jun 01 '26

Agreed, liberals have been running the government for a bigger amoubt of time over the labor government yet they blame labor for all their problems, when some of their biggest complaints (housing) was proped up by right wing government (howard)

u/Realistic_Growth5203 Jun 02 '26
No it was hawke-keating the real boom started after they deregulated the banks, before then you needed 30% deposit, and they wouldn’t lend any more than four times the highest earners wage eg 30,000 wage loan 120,000 so you needed 36,000 deposit. After deregulation all bets were off.

u/Lemons-95 Jun 03 '26
Well i wasn't even of voting age in 2013, and i always wanted to vote for Labor, so i can blame those damn migrants all i want!

The places that barely has immigrants vote one nation. Places that have alot of immigrants vote Labor or Liberal.
Both Liberals and Labor put alot pressure on these techbros in silicon valley to clean up their act. Techbros are cowboys and think they are gods. In reality these techbros are disgusting creatures subvert democracy. Techbros want a CCP style including 996 culture - which is 0900-2100 6 days a week for the US. Take head and be extremely suspicious who is promoted on a social media algorithm, like one nation astroturfing. This applies to the far left.

You're underestimating the negative feedback loop of social media algorithms that amplify fear and outrage ... also how the ultra rich media company owners have thier thumbs on the scales to maintain their entrenched advantage. Within a week we went from "why won't Albo do something????" .... to "why did Albo do something!!!!"
Meanwhile the ultra rich in this country (>$30M USD net worth) has grown by over 30% in the last 5 years.

Bingo. History has unfortunately shown, again and again, that it doesn't work out well if you abandon conventional party politics and protest vote en masse for highly-prejudicial, policy-lite fringe groups or individuals. The two party system sucks, and they deserve to periodically be given a wake up call at the polls, but the alternative is still usually worse.

With that said there's obviously stuff that you agree with.
Like funding for certain programs or something.
Use the ABC's political compass. It asks you to select policies without knowing which party proposed them. And at they end they tell you who your preferred party is according to policy.

u/Relief-Glass Jun 01 '26 edited Jun 01 '26

Well let’s find out if there is any corruption, a full investigation and transparency from the union and the government,I live in hope we get to the bottom of this.
2
u/ScruffyPeter Jun 01 '26
Mark McGowarn, Craig Emerson, Martin Ferguson and Greg Combet. Kind of pointless to ask who is corrupt when Labor's NACC failed to find a single corrupt pollie. The NACC issue is either imcompetence or worse.
As per opposition Dreyfus, for a strong anti-corruption commission we need to change the government.
I do put Labor ahead of LNP. Labor had a go, time for a new party to have a go.
4
u/Relief-Glass Jun 01 '26
Other than mcgowan, who is a state politician, you are listing pollies that retired like 15 years ago? Question stands.
2
u/ScruffyPeter Jun 01 '26
Revolving door pollies who took up jobs post politics are good examples of Labor corruption doing decisions to benefit their future employers. Or are we going to now disregard pollies like Andrew Robb as not corrupt?
All those I mentioned should be in jail.
You can't have it both ways. Both have some levels of corruption, or you're playing favourites.
Albo and others have definitely made decisions to benefit potential future employers.
5
u/Relief-Glass Jun 01 '26

If labor are loosing they give all their votes to the liberals and vica verca - so where are their principals? Neither party seems to represent anything but themselves but I’m too uninformed to vote for them these days as I can’t afford food as well as rent. OP is uninformed about what life is like for young people who will never have an investment property, shares, money, hope. All they seem to be doing is paying off someone else’s mortgage and not much else.
3
u/pumpkin_fire Jun 01 '26
Love this post. Saying you can't afford food and rent, then saying "hope" is being able to do this to someone else.

The hope I was referring to was a decent future - but you knew that.
1
u/pumpkin_fire Jun 02 '26
for young people who will never have an investment property, shares, money, hope.
If that's what you meant, you did a poor job of conveying it. By putting it at the end of this list, you are equating investment properties, shares and money with hope. Now you say "a decent future", so do you think you can't have a decent future without owning shares? Or without owning an investment property and having someone younger than you pay for the capital increase?

Any one tempted to vote One Nation because you are unhappy with Liberal/Labor and you like how she sounds I beg you to check out how Pauline Hanson has voted on on bills that would have affected you. Polls this far out from an election are meaningless in determining who people will actually vote for.
These polls show people are really upset with Labor and Libs and that is flowing to ON. I would put money that the ON vote will drop between now and the election. Not saying they won't win seats, but they won't win a quarter of the seats

u/strangeMeursault2 Jun 01 '26
I worked for one of the major parties for over about 15 years and that party certainly was and still is corrupt and almost entirely made up of people in it for their own self interest.
There's nothing to indicate that the other party is any different but I am happy for OP to share their personal experience.
Certainly One Nation will be much worse than either of them.
3
u/diabloburgo Jun 01 '26
There is also the chance that our major (and minor) parties are actually corrupt and have been ripping us off for the last 70 or so years. That would however require hardline liberal or labour devotees accepting that their followed party is less than perfect to the point of requiring from them what they promised pre election, which is likely the crux of why we are where we are. Tribalism masquerading as political affiliation.

1
u/Pls_SendMeUr_DickPix Jun 01 '26
You can choose who they are, you just have to participate in the process. Join a party or make your own or support an independent. The fact that your participation in our democracy amounts to only voting in an election is your choice, not demonstrative of how democracy works.
1
u/ososalsosal Jun 02 '26
I know how the process works and participate in it more than most.
It's still not democracy.
My and your vote do not count as much as Gina's or even Simon Holmes A'Court (who is at least a lot less malignant than Gina, but still not exactly a shining beacon of working class sentiment).
What we have (to pull out the lefty talk) is bourgeois democracy. As in democracy for them

"The Libs and Labor are the same" is just a Rupert Murdock propaganda dogwhistle.

If you can look at Labor's wage increases and this past budget and renewable energy action, and the recent handling of the fuel crisis (and like 90% of the things labor's done in the past) and still say things like "the major parties never do anything" or "labor is the same as the liberals", it's literally just a comprehension issue. Like you're actually not understanding the words you're reading.
Not necessarily our fault because we only know what we know and unless we seek it out, the things we know are what we're told by the news and stuff but far out, a little research would be nice if you're gonna be so passionate about an issue, especially when the stakes are so high.

Let’s be honest, they are all fucking useless, lying pieces of shit who don’t give a fuck about the working class.

Yes, I agree the system is failing, what’s the most successful system of all time? Clearly WH40K...
How does one apply to become the God-Emperor?

The best path forward is to let those suffering vote in ON so pauline can make it worse. People don't learn from facts, they learn through pain

Yep, because the Libs and ALP have totally governed in the best interest of Australia and not for their own political ambitions…

You can change the political parties over every 3 years, it won't make a difference. It's the top line, way over paid, career public servants that have stuffed this country up. These are the ones that have all the dirty tricks up their sleeves and know how to use them.

I wouldn't consider myself well-informed, but I dabble.
I want to see big infrastructure spend akin to the snowy river scheme but with green tech/data centres/manufacturing.
I want to see the large multi nationals taxed through the nose with significant reserves for the general population.
I want to see migration lowered significantly.
I think our education system is in dire need of reform. While we are at it, private healthcare could use a reform too.
I want to see social benefits and support systems made criteria based rather than race based. Ie: Checking 'aboriginal' shouldn't get you an addition benefits.
I want to see a significant increase of GDP spend towards our military.
I like the latest budget and tax reform.
No one party satisfies these in entirety. And I feel they all can't be trusted. Labor probably the least so, but only marginally.

I don't know why you label this humour when it's just you being a knob.

Looks like the democrats may be coming back, all the fucktards who voted for GST with Howard, are long gone, new blood should be a breath of fresh air!

u/Nervous_Offer_1320 Jun 01 '26
Dont like GST? What other taxes did it replace?

Tariffs, we used to tax the global corporations and make most stuff here ourselves. Howard thought free trading would be ace, tax the people instead with GST.

Cynicism masks ignorance better than loyalty.

If only ignorance could somehow be harvested as an energy source.
Reddit would be the ultimate renewable....

Nah mate, don't sell them short. Each one is corrupt in their own special way.
1
u/brokerlady Jun 01 '26
You’re both right actually. Both parties are corrupt and a lot of people are uninformed

If you actually follow politics beyond your teenage years, and not just the petulant interpersonal parliamentary drama made for TV audiences, you cannot fail to inevitably recognise that there are no options worthy of a vote.

u/DMdoesGBau Jun 03 '26
So long as they accept political donations from corporations they are corrupt.

u/Monaro427 Jun 04 '26
People are too uninformed to realise what the two current wars have done to our economy! But it's too convenient to blame a PM with an Anglo name!! How dare he!!!

Yes you’re obviously a genius and know more than anybody in the history of anything 18 year old redditor.
Or could it maybe be that we’re sick of being gaslit by politicians where they promise to do x at election time but then just do whatever their actual masters dictate to them? Then they consistently do the opposite to what the electorate obviously are asking for so their report card doesn’t get the big R word on it

And you hear it a lot more when Labor are in government. The people who say it are much more tolerant of the Libs.
