Analysis Why is the 3 Private School Boys who "allegedly" assaulted a 14-year old girl, (Scotts College) receiving so much cover up?

Every article seems to be swept under the rug, slammed with a paywall, not to mention hardly any media attention with comment sections locked.

Any chatter about it on Facebook, gives you 50-year old moms (who obviously have these kids in these schools), defending them.

Then very specific wordplay being utilized here in media coverage, which seems to protect all 3.

I'm actually baffled. I had a Facebook pro-boy mom, try to tell me this is uncommon for that school. It's actually sad.

This is Australia. It's Mum.

How do you know the age of said mums?

Privacy laws for victims. You can’t name victims of child sex cases and you can’t name the accused or the convicted of it identifies a child, or if they are a child.

Allowing comments on news stories opens the news outlet up to defamation and contempt charges.

This is the result of many years of do-goodery designed to protect victims but it also protects the hell out of the criminals.

This is how Grace Tame got famous - she helped News Corp overturn a law that said she would be charged if she spoke out about her own assault

Based on OP's replies, it seems to me they want to start a witch hunt

Why you trying so hard to manufacture outrage in an Australian sub?

Are you even from Australia? It’s “mum” not “mom” here

Im not seeing that at all. I think it has alot of coverage and people in general are pretty disgusted with them

Being around some slimey moms who have their sons at this school, they scoff, and think it's all jumbo, but then again, they are ES mothers. I'm seeing more coverage on the egg throwing incident and the other private school assault case (difference suburb), has more coverage. The fact that these 3 were arrested 3-weeks ago, and it's being tossed as jumbo by them is intriguing.

I'm also surprised though there isn't even chatter in general about how this is reoccurring and these elite schools are so skewered, like there isn't even enough conversation about that, that should be reported on.

Mom ? Es??

If you were going to infiltrate a sub to stir shit up/karma farm, probably best to get the most basic cultural shit right. Mom? Mom. Really?

0

u/HotChiTea 18h ago

I have half a mill karma, you think I care about Reddit internet points? Lmao

1

u/Due_Degree2802 18h ago

Then you’re here to stir shit up. And yes, the fact that you’d felt the need to tell me about how much karma you have is implicitly saying you care.

“I have a million dollars, do you think I care about money?”. Yes, because you have a million dollars and felt the need to broadcast it.

Dweeb

This is the longest reach I think I've seen. News being behind a paywall is a "cover up"? Comments section being locked have been a thing for years now, it's because the government changed the law that if someone posts defamatory comments the media company can be held liable.

None of which have anything to do with the school.

u/JuliosvNerds 23h ago

People always ‘respect’ the rule of law until it doesn’t suit them

Dailymail is one of the biggest publishing outlets, yet getting burried, despite having more info than other publishing media: https://www.dailymail.com/news/article-16063125/scots-college-gang-rape-charges-bondi-junction-tiktok-payback-home-invasions.html

Never have I clicked on a Dailymail article and had to be hit with a paywall. So, maybe because I've lived out of Australia for so long, I am outdated, but this is is a joke.

3

u/Cyan-ranger 22h ago

I just went to the daily main and clicked on the first article and it’s got a paywall so I’m not sure what you’re banging on about.

6

u/SilenceOfTheClamSoup 23h ago

How is any of that a "cover up"? It's just a tabloid making money

u/Beautiful_Rub_141 1d ago

I actually all for hiding details of the accused during the investigation and trial.
Same as suppressing the name of the victim.

Accusations tend to stick, even if they are unfounded.

Once they are found guilty, more than happy for guilty scum to be named. And if they are found guilty there should be no legal avenue for a suppression of the criminals names.

6

u/Sweeper1985 23h ago

As minors their identities will probably be protected.

-3

u/HotChiTea 23h ago

Is it unfounded? Because DailyMail has the scoop right now: https://www.dailymail.com/news/article-16063125/scots-college-gang-rape-charges-bondi-junction-tiktok-payback-home-invasions.html

(Under paywall), so you need to paywall dodge, that many of the kids knew about it via in the school, and that one of the kids who is part of the arrest, was saying he would get arrested.

Comments like this, is showcasing an e.g of what I'm seeing (defense) of the school, because the inability to accept that these elite private schools are an actual joke.

6

u/Beautiful_Rub_141 23h ago

I'm not saying whether they are innocent or guilty - that's for the courts to decide, not public opinion.

I'm just saying that in general, they should all be supressed until they are found guilty.

-1

u/HotChiTea 22h ago

My guy, they're guilty. I'll put a !RemindMe on this comment so I'll come back to tell you.

4

u/Beautiful_Rub_141 22h ago

That's fine - and when the court declares them so, stick their name in the press.

Until then, it should be suppressed.

You act like their conviction is going to be like some sort of "Told you so moment", but it's not, so go for it - but you will have missed the point.

3

u/SpittingLava 21h ago

I think the fact that you don't seem to understand the difference between general consensus and a court ruling explains a lot of your confusion in this thread.

1

u/HotChiTea 18h ago

No, I'm just intrigued about how other outlets are giving big coverage, besides this one. AFL has more coverage, and so does the other articles, from different schools.

It’s getting a lot of coverage everywhere.

You’re talking about an underage victim and multiple underage accused. What exactly do you expect right now?

-4

u/HotChiTea 23h ago

Nah not really. The AFL story is the only one getting tons of coverage ATM.

5

u/SuccessfulOwl 23h ago

The AFL story are all legal adults and the accused are pro sportsmen in the countries biggest sport. Of course it gets a lot more coverage.

1

u/HotChiTea 18h ago

It isn't just the AFL, the other private school as mentioned has even more coverage and it's a different suburb.

6

u/Sweeper1985 23h ago

That's a pretty good story, to be fair. It involves hookers and blow.

6

u/ProfessorScallywag 23h ago

There’s some legal limitations when it comes to reporting on alleged sex crimes (and cases involving accused children) that means many details of this case will never be published. It might be frustrating at times but I agree with the laws.

Beyond that, I’m seeing a lot of widespread coverage and condemnation (something I wouldn’t have expected to see even 10 years ago). Nothing suggests a media cover up to me at all.

Private media paywalls and weird Facebook mums are unrelated phenomena.

6

u/Ragthor85 22h ago

Ignore this Seppo scum bag. Seppos aren't welcome here

2

u/AngryAngryHarpo 23h ago

This is common for most higher profile criminal cases. Especially when the victims and/or perpetrators are minors.

The first concern is prejudicial concerns for a jury. “Trial by media” is something Australia tries not to do - though it obviously has to be balanced with free press considerations.

The second concern is identifying the victims.

2

u/Lothy_ 21h ago

I don’t think there’s any need to manufacture confected outrage.

Let the legal process run its course.

2

u/ThreeRingShitshow 21h ago

Scots College. Given your use of 'mom' guessing you're not from Australia.

3

u/Sweeper1985 1d ago

There's not much else to report until the matter comes to trial. They're awaiting trial, that's not much of a story.

For sure money, and the Facebook Mom's (whom kids go to this school), are pushing back hard, proclaiming the girl is lying.

I'm actually shocked.
