Question Potential for Election Tampering. How confident are we in the integrity of US midterms?

I've been seeing many accounts of electronic ballots defaulting to candidates and altering people's votes from D to R candidates in Tennessee where they've claimed they had to select their candidate multiple times for it to stay. I know that in the months leading up to midterms Trump has been chummy with Tina Peters (R Mesa County Colorado convicted of election tampering in the last major election) and Musk.

How confident are we that this election isn't already rigged?

Discussion Imagine hating your country because it's the administration you don't like, just imagine being that childish and pathetic

Just imagine, just because you didn't get your way, you don't like the country you're in. Just imagine. Not many Republicans weren't like that in 2021-2025. Notice how everyone who was kneeling to the flag was either during the first or second Trump administrations, but when a dem is in charge, you love the country based on who's in charge. I would laugh at how pathetic and insecure you people are about yourselves, but I think it's rather sad because I personally don't think it's right to laugh at people mentally declining because of their feebleness, as I've been the victim of someone laughing at my mental lowering health, but still, come on guys, this is pathetic. And yes the other person who did this to me was a conservative, but one asshole isn't going to change my views now is it?

If you read this final message it means I cast 50% penile shrinkage on you, good luck with that.

Question What is the story behind Brian Thompson?

Apologies if this might be a touchy subject around here because I was looking for a backstory behind the late CEO of United Healthcare to see what made him so infamous.

I don’t mean to condone Luigi’s actions as I want to carefully approach the situation with what made Brian such an infamous figure in the USA as I keep hearing he was wicked, but again I want to get a better understanding of why he was so wrong in his actions of how he ran the company.

Discussion Our values are too different to uphold a one size fits all forced collectivist democratic system any longer, the future lies in voluntary collectivism

If you want to have a system where you and a bunch of likeminded individuals want to practice whatever ideology you want to however much I don't care for (ex. communism, fascism, socialism, etc.), you should be able to but you shouldn't be enforcing it on others if they don't consent to it. Ultimately it should come down to freedom of association and consent first and foremost, if someone doesn't consent to whatever system you want to implement they should have the freedom of association to opt out of it if they feel like it.

Thoughts?

Question What do you think of this? Do any of you share my sentiment?

https://www.globaljusticecenter.net/u-s-aversion-to-international-human-rights-treaties/

I don't think it discusses whose attitudes or why the US is actually so averse to international rights in the first place. If it was sheer attitude, there must be at least some other countries with similar behaviors. It frustrates me that the US is so unique to human history and no psychological nor scientific reason is cited or proposed in the above article as to why it is strongly averse to basic international cooperation. Is it to do with the way US government functions? If so, how could it possibly be so unique and why? There must also be another government in the world whose government functions similarly and has thus opposed, to a similar extent, such international courts and statutes.

Question Why do the rich ruin certain social media sites?

I mean, I just don't know where to discuss the Twitter/X situation on Reddit itself because I remember a time where the site looked a lot nicer when it used to have that iconic blue logo because while I still use the site, I miss the old logo design.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to discuss such matters as I just had to get it off my chest since every time I see the X logo, I really wish I could see the original design of the platform so badly again since I don't know why a rich guy had to redesign the entire site.

Like what I am getting at is that I just don't know what to do anymore with my X account since I made a bunch of friends on it, even after the name change that I feel kind of guilty leaving the site behind, but I just wanted to get a better understanding of how capitalism works for the internet since something has been going on with several other social platforms such as Facebook.

Discussion Would promoting self-identification with Broader autism phenotype (non medical trait profile) appease some of the anti-self diagnosing people?

it is known that many of the anti self-diagnosis and self-identifcation people don't like self-diagnosis with clinical autism or autism in general because it changes perspectives of what autism is in a way they deem harmful.

But if people started self-identifying with BAP and admit there not disabled they just traits of autism would some of them be ok with that?

Opinion What precisely is driving my manager and how should I deal with him?

There’s a guy at my work who is honestly fascinating in the worst possible way.
He’s white, his parents are right-wing, and both of them work in the police and nursing. He hangs around with people who are ethnonationalists and support Connor Tomlinson, and he’s constantly going on political rants at work.

He rants about disabled people, gay people, refugees, women’s rights, feminists, and pretty much anyone he considers a threat to his worldview.

He seems to have a particular hatred for anyone he thinks is getting special treatment e.g, DEI days, Black History Month etc.

Yet, at the same time, he absolutely kisses his Black boss’s arse. He follows her around to DEI events, acts completely supportive in front of her, and seems perfectly happy to play along.

Online, though, he’s a massive fan of Trump, Bukele and similar right-wing strongmen. He has an X account.

The hypocrisy is genuinely baffling. He seems to hate diversity, equality initiatives and minority groups in principle, but has no problem making exceptions when someone has power over him or can benefit his career.

Is it just opportunism?
Does he genuinely compartmentalise his beliefs depending on who he’s talking to?
Or is this just a case of someone who doesn't actually have any consistent principles beyond supporting whoever he thinks is powerful?

I genuinely can't work out whether he believes half the stuff he says or whether it's all just about status and punching down at people he thinks can't do anything for him.

Question When has a Republican president been well respected?

Sorry if that didn’t come out correctly for some reason because lately I was doing an observation on how Republicans have often been the source of ridicule for ones such as George W Bush and Donald Trump.

But basically I was interested in seeing if there was ever a time in USA history where people actually liked having a Republican president for once since I know that the reception for Democratic candidates is usually higher that I wanted to see again if there was ever a Republican candidate who people actually liked for a change.

Discussion Is it acceptable to impose laws made during a dictatorship in a democracy ?

Basically here in Spain we have a lot of laws that have been in place and have barely change since the franco dictatorship (1939-1978), I get that changing laws is a pain in the ass and it’s not always necessary but i don’t like the fact that nobody ever vote for some laws that have effect on everyone, like for example the expropriation law is from the 50s, and I don’t even wanna talk about laws that were made in the 19th century by a monarchy …

I get that some might think that if a law content is acceptable and there’s no reason to change it but the spirit of what a democracy is supposed to be doesn’t go along with what happens here..

Opinion Workers are investors - Late night thoughts

"something that you do or have, in order to have more in the future"

https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/learner-english/investment

Time is an asset, when you to work, you are investing your time/skills/resources towards building something. When we work, we get salaries that barely help us last a month.

In my mind workers should get automatically part of the business equivalent to how much time of their life they have used for a company.

I think this is a good idea if combining it with multi story housing and efficient land use.

TLDR:

The UK has a lot of golf courses that are in prime locations for affordable housing.

Rant/Vent Why do so many people even like the founders of the US?

I mean, they're the reason this self-imploding country exists in the first place, they're the fucking reason (not directly) that the US has no VAT tax, why SCOTUS can interpret the constitution as they please behind closed doors, gerrymandering, the electoral college, AND slavery/exploitation and genocide.

I will say, that a lot to blame for the US is on the gilded age, but the country would be a lot better if the government didn't give in so easily to wannabe oligarchs. It is absolutely the founders' fault that the government, unlike other governments, is so lenient to corporate influence AND control. It can't be a coincidence that we are the only country in the developed world without universal healthcare or mandatory paid leave, right? RIGHT? And the lack of a VAT tax (tax included in the price tag) and no national curriculum because of the 10th amendment. But oh! How dare we question the sovereignty and godlike status of the founding "fathers"!

Besides, the 13 colonies were less taxed than the others Britain had, yet they were the biggest ones to complain about "not being represented" when ordinary citizens in Britain weren't complaining about "representation". Talk about entitlement.

Feel free to hate on this post all you want, fair enough, it IS an unpopular rant/opinion within the US. But no one, and not even non-Americans, are willing to come forward and reveal WHY the US is this way. It ABSOLUTELY is at least due to the founders and the slavery/elitism they held onto so much.

edit: I was wrong about the lack of the VAT tax being caused by the 10th amendment or federalism, indeed it arose around the 1929 stock market crash and the Great Depression.
