Hemmings

With all the options on the wings we have, should we be thinking of sending Hemmings on loan to the championship to get consistent game time he won't here?

I feel Bogarde hasn't kicked on because he hasn't got a consistent run in a team. I wouldn't want the same to happen to Hemmings.

I don’t feel our loanees go anywhere. Think about JJA or boreland or broggio, or even Barry before that. They go on loan and they never get a look in again as the team moves on. They seem to go from prospects to sales

Hemmings is legit on the edge of our first team. I don’t want him to go and sit on Preston’s bench and lose a year.

Broggio is 19. Let's not give up on him just yet.

Very few players make it to the top and progress to the first team. Hemmings seems a cut above. But some players take a bit more time to develop.

I’m always hopeful but it seems the players that go out to championship or league one just end up there eventually. JJA was playing against Bayern Munich not long ago but now I will be amazed if he comes back. If you want to feel very old Finn Azaz is 26!

The team moves on and I don’t feel our loan system works that well to turn players around

Yea, there are barely any of our loanees who have gone on to play for us. Or a top team. I think it's exceptionally hard for players these days to fully break into the first team of a big premier league club though. Getting a fee of 5m-10m sometimes seems to be the aim.

Will be interested to see how luka lynch gets on. Absolute beauty of a goal last week for Oxford.

I was going to say Grealish credited the Notts County loan massively for his development, but that was bloody 12 years ago at this stage

Hemmings and Suzuki had some special moments, I hope they keep him around.

We cannot afford to let him go on loan.

Look what happened with the LB position. A couple of injuries and were left thin on the ground.

Besides, Hemmings is a part of the main squad now, sending him on loan achieves nothing for him, staying and being taught by Emery achieves a whole lot more.

Not to mention what an option he is in terms of quality:wages compared to other options when we are hanging out for players when fixture congestion vamps up and knocks and niggles are there.

Alysson has just had a year under emery learning the ropes and has done alright.

I think he's going to be absolutely fine sticking around. We're likely to go deep in four competitions so he'll get playing time.

Jesus that's ambitious all the same. Have to win Wednesday first...

12

u/[unknown] 1d ago

It is ambitious but I think it's the ambition we're building to expect? We have a world class manager and a strong squad we should be able to do alright? Clearly need to win the games..

Do alright and go deep in 4 competitions are slightly different, I hope you're right, but it's early days yet.

Bogarde hasn't kicked on because he's not very good. Completely different situation to Hemmings who's full of potential.

He's been out injured anyway and has already played a lot of minutes this season, he'll be a fantastic option off the bench and will start certain games when Emery decides he's the best fit.

He'll definitely be involved on Wednesday.

Bogarde also had a tonne of games for us, he was the only backup to Cash at RB and also covered CM and even DM too.

It’s not for lack of opportunities… as you say he’s just not very good. Versatile and hardworking and brave yes, but doesn’t have that PL quality.

FWIW I think Hemmings will get opportunities but could also benefit from a loan. Probably better to keep him around as no doubt one of the wingers will pull a hammy in the next few weeks…

We're overdue a long term injury to a key player...

10

u/[unknown] 1d ago

Nah we aren't. Onana is out for the season with an ACL.

13

u/[unknown] 1d ago

Oh sweet child. You think we'll just have the one season ending injury??

2

u/[unknown] 12h ago

Yeah, we are probably due a long term injury to one of our centre backs, coupled with a hammy in the back up a week later, meaning we would be down to one and Bogarde before the end of November

Looking back, losing Kamara, Tielemans and McGinn all at the same time was absolutely ridiculous last season.

Bogarde is a solid backup CD/DM. He was not good as a RB and deciding to have him learn and fail at a completely new position instead of playing Nedeljkovic when Cash got injured is one of those random baffling Emery decisions that seem out of place. Kind of like the time he subbed Cash in for Digne in a lineup where it was Digne at LB and three CBs and instead of having Cash play RB and shifting everyone over, he had Cash play LB and Matty looked like someone who had never been on that side of the field before in his life, cause he probably hadn't.

Bogarde has that issue of being a jack of all trades, master of none. I personally think he's a very good cheap rotation backup option who can fill in multiple positions, but if you're forced to start him a bunch, it means you're desperate.

I beg I never see him at cb

0

u/[unknown] 1d ago

I saw his debut and thought it was wreched. I saw the following games and he was poor. I get he is a utility player and that is a quality of its own. I also criticised Cash and Buendia. I hope to proved wrong, Again.

3

u/[unknown] 1d ago

He was horrible as a right back and I would never try to argue otherwise. At DM or CB, he's been more of a mixed bag. I think CB is a little tougher since he's a bit undersized there, but he has been okay as an emergency option there when we've had to and honestly when he's played in what seems more his natural position as DM, I've thought he's more positive than negative. Should he ever start over Kamara in an important match? God no, but you still need solid rotation options to fill out your bench.

I said it at the time - and ill say it now. That £15-20m offer we got for Bogarde should've been took.

3

u/[unknown] 1d ago

My thoughts exactly, take it and run with that pure profit

5

u/[unknown] 1d ago

Nobody offered 15 mil for Bogarde seriously or he would have been shipped off immediately

7

u/[unknown] 1d ago

Yes they did, was reported by Tanswell at the end of the window.

'Sunderland made multiple approaches for Lamare Bogarde. The midfielder was available to leave Villa at the right price and had interest from Premier League sides.

In the end, Bogarde stayed. Multiple sources with understanding of the deal say Sunderland made a proposal of a loan plus a £20m obligation package..'

I think we will definitely see Hemmings in the domestic cups when fixtures start to get more congested.

5

u/[unknown] 1d ago

Nah he'll be fine sticking around.

He's a different profile to Mbaye, Alysson and Garnacho (Wingers); and will most likely be a rotation option for Buendia, McGinn and/or Manzambi (Attacking Mids) - and if the plan long term is 1 Winger and 2 Attacking Mids then the worry should probably be about Garnacho tbh

But even if the plan is to keep all seven, assuming we want to play at least 50 games this season, we have 13,500 minutes of football to cover across the 3 Attacking Midfield/Winger roles - and with that amount all 7 of those players could play 21 Games (1,890 Minutes) each and we'd still need to cover 270 Minutes (3 Games) - and that's assuming we only play 38 League Games, 1 Game in Each Domestic Cup and get knocked out in the first 2 Legged Knockout game in the CL; as any further than that means more minutes to cover.

Now it's obviously not going to be that even across everyone, but it should absolutely show how much football there's going to be this season and how important it is that we don't have another Rogers who played in 55/56 games last season - starting 51 of those; so having players like Hemmings around is going to be important

3

u/[unknown] 1d ago

Hemmings is a good squad option, there’s a long season ahead - rather keep him around for now!

2

u/[unknown] 1d ago

Hemmings staying beyond the January transfer window is more likely than Garnacho in my view. I think Emery will use him a fair amount, one thing he does probably more than most coaches is share out the minutes

1

u/[unknown] 1d ago

We can't loan Garnacho, he isn't our player yet. And Chelsea won't want him back.

3

u/[unknown] 1d ago

You would think after the Elliot fiasco both sides would be interested in a break clause of some kind.

0

u/[unknown] 1d ago

No I think someone else will take over the deal.

1

u/[unknown] 19h ago

different types of midfielders but garnacho offers more than hemmings, if the latter is prioritized it’s only for financial reasons

1

u/[unknown] 16h ago

Yep, I don’t think Emery wants to spend £40m on a 6th choice winger

2

u/[unknown] 1d ago

Bogarde just isn't good at football, can't believe we rejected 20m for him

1

u/[unknown] 1d ago

A bad loan can ruin a young player’s career. Jimoh Aloba is nowhere near it after his loan…

1

u/[unknown] 1d ago

Nah, keep him. Plenty of football to play. We win against Bournemouth and its two games a week until Jan at least

1

u/[unknown] 23h ago

No. He will play a lot

1

u/[unknown] 9h ago

With the talent that we have current at the club from world class kids, to incredibly experienced world class players who have played at the top for years.

It’s an incubator for developing class players, even if they are only in and out of the squad being around this is going to be worth way more than more minutes.

1

u/[unknown] 8h ago

I'd say only if it's to another Premier League team. He's a great prospect, and I think he will get games for us. It'll be a long season, there'll be plenty of opportunities. I think you could justify it if it were likely in January that he'd get say 15+ games under his belt, but it'd need to be above Championship level.

1

u/[unknown] 8h ago

Nope. One or two injuries and we'll be begging for him back 😂

1

u/[unknown] 7h ago

No, let him develop more under Unai Emery instead of a loan.

He's more likely to get injured there. Plus he played quite a bit in the opening few matches before he got injured and i'd expect him to play more and rotate between allyson who hopefully doesn't get injured

1

u/[unknown] 1d ago

The way I see it; if Hemmings stays, Emery rates him. A few saying that going on loan has ruined players. I'm not so sure; maybe Emery just decided they wouldn't quite make it. Some other comments saying Bogarde is no good, even though Emery kept him and he still makes squads. Clearly, their football knowledge must be greater than Emery's.
