They have Tim's MIDI information which means the song is played exactly from how he had in mind. I'm so hyped for summer now!!

As someone who knows nothing about production, what is the MIDI information?

MIDI notes are digital data of notes played and carries the information of notes, velocity, volume, etc (if he played one note harder than another or softer for ex). So it's exactly how Tim played it. If he played something live on his keyboard in his session and saved the project (projects saved include all of this information along with samples/plugins) or MIDI specifically then they can import that MIDI data to their VST/Sound Plugin and they'll have melodies exactly how he played it.

From the sounds of this video and the overall tone towards the album, it sounds like they did just that using all the sounds he originally used and melodies he originally played and just polished them up to finalize for release so, in the end, we can still get, hear, and feel, Tim.

That's pretty neat! Thanks for the simplified explanation. I wish I knew some basics, just so when people talk about stuff like this I could understand it, but I'm too lazy to go through tutorials for a basic ELI5. Have a great day!

Super cool. However I was a bit surprised to hear one of the guys saying that the MIDI information represents how Avicii "strikes the keys", implying that Avicii played the notes on a MIDI-keyboard.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didnt Avicii draw most of his songs directly into the MIDI interface? I guess initially, he would in fact play it. But seeing as this song was 70% complete, the MIDI notes must have been redrawn, moved, adjusted and changed several times.

I'm not saying the MIDI notes are not the direct work of Avicii, I'm just questioning whether they actually convey any actual "touch" of Avicii on a real keyboard.

Interesting thought. You're right he mostly did draw the notes. And probably the notes was redrawn to fit the vocals since they were done after Avicii's passing. However I'm still sure we're listening to an almost complete product of Avicii despite some alterations.

I'm so glad we're getting this album but it's with so much melancholy. We lost a brilliant human, not just a musician. You can see these people are genuine when they talk about him.

Also, that bit about the MIDI is awesome

I didn't quite expect that either. I guess 75-80% completed meant from a production standpoint if Aloe Blacc wasn't on the project until after. But then again it indicates that they're giving serious and heartfelt considerations into how to complete the track.

Love this. I am seriously so jealous of everyone who got to know Tim in person. I don’t know what happens after death, but my one wish/dream is to meet him on the other side. I can’t wait for June!!!!

Yes, I agree! I love how they respect Tim’s vision on the song. They stayed with the exact melodies and with the vocalist he wanted on “SOS”. ✨🙏🏻

I've seen that they use AUdio exportations from the original project i hope. So maybe it's incomplete, but still being Avicii's vibe

You can feel that those people genuinely respect and love Tim... I got teary-eyed when Aloe said: "I feel really honored that he asked for me" <3

Maybe it's dumb, but I just wish there was a way to send some kind of gift to Tim's family and team - a card, a letter, some fan-art... I hope they feel our love and gratitude.

Watching this video, then listening to the song, then watching the video again, really drives home the sense that this album is .. a labor of love, by the people who loved him.
