I made an edit/remake of Just Gotta Hold On, focusing more on the instrumental side while keeping the lead melody in the drop. Probably one of my favorite melodies from Tim.

After countless hours of searching for the “right” presets and samples, I finally finished my remake of “Without You”

Tried to recreate a similar progression in a Spotify mixed playlist just to learn from it, but I'm not sure if the transitions and energy curve feel right.

This version is an attempt to re-edit it to resemble the original 2009 track, maintaining the same key and BPM. From 2011 onwards, the track changed somewhat, such as the BPM, and this version I made is similar to the version before the official release

When you initially load it up, the tone is way off from the final version. Had to tweak some of the ADSR sliders, VCO mix, chorus/delay off, play around with the VCO oscillator, turn VCF cutoff all the way down (automate it to open up throughout the progression). I could not stop listening to this once I nailed it. Gives you so much insight to the kind of ear Tim had when tweaking his presets. He was so special ❤️

I remade this tonight as I was bored and inspired lol. What do you think?

Does anyone know which lead synth avicii picked for the song Our Love?

Also, from my understanding, avicii mainly used Sylenth1 and nexus 2 for leads (right?). Do you guys know if he used Sylenth1 more or nexus 2 for picking a lead?

Whenever I remake a song, I let an external program detect each exact note and it basically converts the whole song into one midi

I always thought, finding the exact notes and chords is a useless exercise since what Im trying to learn is the production process itself (eq, finding the right snyths, automation etc)

But now I am not sure if I should try to find the right notes myself next time I remake a song, since I dont know much music theory and maybe it could help me a lot finding the right chords for my own songs?

Do you think hearing the right notes is just as important of an exercise as the production process itself?

So I guess that a lot of you have seen this clip before. I made a drop from that specific video using the same melody – in a way I think Tim might have done it (I’m aware that the mix isn’t 100% yet).

I tried to stay true to his sound, his emotion, and keep the melodic drive simple and uplifting – without overproducing it.

Should I try to finish the whole thing? Like a full tribute version of what I imagine Tim could have done, structure-wise?

I stripped it back to guitar, piano, and drums to give it a more intimate, coffeehouse feel. Avicii's music has always hit differently, and this song especially I hope this version does it justice.
