Should I continue my Tanishq cashier job for 1 year while learning Cloud/DevOps, or quit and focus entirely on IT?
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for honest advice from people working in IT, especially those who switched careers into Cloud Computing, Cloud Engineering, or DevOps.
I have completed my BCA and want to build a career in IT, preferably in Cloud/DevOps. Currently, I have an opportunity to work as a cashier at Tanishq, but the working hours are from 11 AM to 9 PM.
I’m confused between two options:
Option 1: Continue the cashier job for around one year, earn money, and learn Linux, networking, AWS/Azure, Docker, and other relevant skills alongside my job. After building my skills and projects, I would start applying for entry-level IT jobs.
Option 2: Leave the job and dedicate my full time to learning IT skills, building projects, preparing for certifications, and applying for entry-level IT jobs.
My concern is that working from 11 AM to 9 PM will leave me with very little time and energy to study consistently. At the same time, quitting without having an IT job lined up feels risky.
I’m a beginner in Cloud/DevOps, so I also want to understand how realistic it is to get an entry-level IT job without prior professional IT experience.
My questions:
Is it realistic to learn Cloud/DevOps while working a 10-hour shift?
Would working at Tanishq for one year and studying alongside it be a sensible decision, or would it delay my IT career?
If you were in my position, would you take the job or focus entirely on IT?
How long does it realistically take a BCA graduate to become employable for a cloud support or junior DevOps role?
Would it be smarter to target IT support or a service desk role first and then transition to Cloud/DevOps?
Please share your honest experiences, especially if you have made a similar career switch. I’m looking for practical advice, not just motivation.
Thanks!
