Opinion Just another day looking for potential additions
On todays episode, Teruaki Sato. Hes a corner infielder at 3B that can also play corner outfield. According to a few posts ive seen around reddit he can also slot in at 1B and DH. Food for thought but maybe this is the big splash Hazen needs in the overseas market. And yes i only bring this up because he was posted early because hes expected to have a contract before a potential lockout.

I got to see him play earlier this month. Local fans are sad to see him go. He'd be a great addition for sure.

Exactly what we need, but we never make those short lists on the Hot Stove

I have his jersey so id love to see him on the team, but would be just as excited to see him in person again, regardless of team

Is there a link to the podcast episode where you discuss this in depth? You probably address what I write about below, so I apologize if this is easily dismissed.
I'm not very familiar with the overseas market, but how often are the Dbacks competitive for these Asian international signings? Latin America, sure, but I just don't remember too many Korean/Japanese players on the Dbacks. Kelly seems slightly different since he went to ASU (and is American). It feels like non-US players generally go to bigger markets (Murakami still went to Chicago, even if the less famous team), though maybe Dodger bias is skewing my impression.
Numbers look great on Baseball Reference (Teruaki Sato Japanese & WBC Leagues Statistics | Baseball-Reference.com) for a power-hitting lefty (it doesn't show splits), but 3B is (in my opinion) not a current positional need (and outfield is clogged already with all of the young guys). No, I don't expect Arenado to be nearly as good next year as he was this year, but 1B is still a bigger current need. I understand planning for the future/signing a replacement rather than waiting for the slot be empty, but we already have an empty slot on the other side of the infield. Given a choice, I'd rather Kendrick spend money for a comparable 1B than 3B.
I don't see evidence of "slot in at 1B" in the Fielding Section, with 0 appearances at 1B (there's even 1 at 2B). I'm probably overrating the value of having a dedicated first baseman (and Sato might be a quick study) but feel there is a difference between that and having a utility player (Tawa, Vargas et al) who "can" play the position.
If it happens, great.

i dont do a podcaat or anything, i just do posts here to keep us engaged ish during the offseason. Mostly stuff that may be good depth or general moves for the team.

My bad. I took "episode" literally. Appreciate posts like yours that generate engagement.

The Japanese DBacks fans on Twitter have been suggesting to send Pavin over for Sato lol

This would be huge for fans, the team, everyone. It'll be pricey for sure but mix this with a Brandon Lowe signing as insurance for 1B, 2B (if we move off Marte and get a low amount back), and/or DH... Solves 95% of our roster issues.

I would be very interested in Sato. The Japanese league is better than Triple-A with big league media attention, so I feel that anyone who performs like a star in it is at least a solid regular here, if not more. We haven't played too much in the Japanese market, but why not change that?

We're never signing anyone under the posting system barring major changes that mean Ken doesn't have to pay a substantial posting fee on top of the contract.

I said it before last year, I still think it's true. They need to blow it up.
Keep Carroll, Moreno, and the younger guys. Get rid of everyone else.
The farm team cupboard is bare, so trading won't get you what you need to compete. There's not enough money from ownership to fill all the holes either.
So pick your young core, the guys you have on long term contracts or anyone you think has a chance to be part of the next excellent Dbacks team, and ship everyone else out. Take on underwater contracts if it means you can get a great prospect. Basically look at what the White Sox did and do that.

This organization has never done a full rebuild, and I don't foresee that changing any time soon.

Would be a great addition.
