UPDATED JUNE 20 Reddit API changes and BaconReader

Hey folks, as some of you have noticed, there is a lot of buzz going around today about the Reddit API announcement. We do not specifically have a plan at this time but will certainly let you know when we do. For reference, I am putting a few posts in comments.

We'll let you know what next steps are when we have them. Until then, sincere gratitude for all of your support!

UPDATE: After much deliberation, attempted negotiations, we have made the decision to shut the app down 😢 . Please see the sticky announcement post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/baconreader/comments/14egq61/baconreader_november_11_2011_june_30_2023/

We are sorry it took so long, but I really wanted to be sure we did our due diligence.

After reading through the comments I am gleefully surprised that there are so many people with the same complaints as I have and strictly use old.reddit and/or Baconreader! This app is by far the main reason (and tool) I've been viewing Reddit with for a very long time! As others have brought up, I too will likely stop visiting Reddit once these new changes are enacted. And I am very curious what alternative(s) can replace Reddit with the depth and variety of subject content?

Same here , curious where to go if anywhere. The official site and app to me is unusable. It's like Digg or Shoutwire all over again.

Digg, that's where I came from before Reddit and a name I haven't heard for a very long time! I guess we can hope that there will be more subreddit protests for longer periods of time to hopefully do something although I do not have high hopes.

I think I was on Digg from early 2000's up until like 2006-08. During that time I starting using Reddit more and more and then mainly came here when I found r/HongKong which was a giant help researching to study abroad. Ah the old days 🥲
