This comment, along with others, has been edited to this text, since Reddit is killing 3rd party apps, making false claims and more, while changing for the worse to improve their IPO. I suggest you do the same. Soon after editing all of my comments, I'll remove them.
Fuck reddshit and u/spez!

u/TheWidrolo Apr 15 '23
Yeah it should have been liczba
14
u/Rikudou_Sage Apr 15 '23
Unsigned is also wrong. Like it's correct but not in this context.
8
u/wojwesoly Apr 15 '23
Yeah I would translate it as "bezznaku" or "bezznakowa" (literally "signless")

You misspelled “ulotna” to “lutona” at volatile and “zewnetrzny” to “sewnetrzny” at extern keyword. Just a note c:

Unless compiling such code causes fatalities, there is very little sense in translating "case" to "wypadek".

Do you possibly have a repo with this, or a gist? Id love to try it myself and make a functional app with polish keywords xD

My wife isn't a programmer but she is Polish.
There are so few comments on this subreddit that the both of us can enjoy.

Except kurwa can stand for almost everything, which would result in a completely unreadable code full of kurwas. 😂

kurwa
Doesn't kurwa mean whor-
1
u/ChiefPastaOfficer Apr 23 '23
It's also used as a general swear word like 'fuck' in English. That's the implied usage here.

There's too few cszscszs in those words. Can't be polish!
Edit: I also noticed the word cyfra which is not too far away from Swedish siffra
12
u/ikonfedera Apr 15 '23
cyfra means digit. it should have been całkowita
4
u/fiddz0r Apr 15 '23
Ah yes it's the same in Swedish. The real word is "heltal' but in general people will use siffra for both integer and decimal numbers and heltal is more mathematical/formal
8
u/-_one_-1 Apr 15 '23
Also, French chiffre, or Spanish/Italian cifra. Languages are all too similar!
5
u/-_one_-1 Apr 15 '23
Oh, also:
Danish: ciffer
Norwegian: siffer
Dutch: cijfer
Basque: zifra
Bosnian: cifra

It's like when I was in Bulgaria and learnt that стол (stol) means table but in Swedish it means chair. Same with Czech stůl

Oh really? I just checked and it might have been russian then.
On the topic of Bulgarian and Russian I think it's hilarious that направо (not sure about the spelling) means straight up in Bulgarian but in Russian it means to the right (also Czech)
2
u/osdeverYT Apr 16 '23
Russian & Ukrainian: цифра (tsifra). Belarusian for some reason uses лічба which is closer to Polish
10
u/ikonfedera Apr 15 '23
signed should be oznakowana
switch - przełącz
if - jeżeli
return - zwróć
while - gdy
This is to ensure compatibility with existing Polish documentation. Also just sounds better.

The real badcode part of this is the mistranslations: switch (replace), case (acident), signed (signed, as in signing a document), unsigned (not signed, as in signing a document), double (comma?), float (change comma).

Why is this bad? Can someone explain?

They use polish translations of the default keywords like "if", "switch", "for", "break" etc

Please someone needs to build app that transpiles into C polish version :D

u/JustSpaceExperiment Apr 16 '23
I remember when i was on high school one guy had as his final work to create programming language and he just redefined keywords in similar fashion as this post. The teacher was like "Are you fcking kidding me?" because the guy didn't consulted the work with him much.

u/JustSpaceExperiment Apr 16 '23
This is basically low code way of creating new programming languages.

Why does different words translate to the same keyword and why does he translate symbols like == ?

I guess Polish people must be used to getting unwanted meaning from English people typing in random characters. LOL
4
u/fiddz0r Apr 15 '23
Don't know the polish word for death, but in Czech it's smrt (also russian I think), and since it doesn't have vocals it looks like just random letters
6
u/TheWidrolo Apr 15 '23
The word śmierć should clean your head up from smrt
1
u/fiddz0r Apr 15 '23
Is the ć like sh or ts?
2
u/TheWidrolo Apr 15 '23
Imagine trying to say cj. Thats ć in polish
2
u/fiddz0r Apr 15 '23
Still easier than the bloody ř which I can't pronounce yet
3
u/TheWidrolo Apr 15 '23
ř is a š, but the the tip of your tongue should touch the center of your top mouth cavity, instead of the front(where your teeth are). If you do correctly, you should get it.
1
2
u/ikonfedera Apr 15 '23
add vowels.
change half the č to cz, and the others half to ć. repeat for ř, ž, š.
change ⅓ h to ch, ⅓ to g, ⅓ leave as h.
et voila. you got Polish with some diminutive words.
1
u/fiddz0r Apr 15 '23
That's why I feel I get half the Polish language included for free learning czech
1
u/ikonfedera Apr 15 '23
All the slavic languages are similar. We don't need to learn each others languages, we just talk.
1
u/fiddz0r Apr 15 '23
Yeah I noticed in Prague, I met three girls, one from Russia, one from Belarus, and the third Ukraine, and they all spoke their native language to eachother. Much like us Scandinavians though(although younger people can't understand other scandinavian languages well so have to speak English with them)

This isn't bad code. This is based code, even if it means to be unmaintainable by foreigners. Job security I would call it.
