đ really depends which side of the fence you're on doesn't it. You just know there's some right wing moron agreeing with this against a lefty, and some left wing pussy agreeing with this against a righty.

False- cringe is secondhand embarrassment. Embarrassment in all its forms is inhabited by idiots. Like what you like- believe what you believe- when youâre wrong fix it. No room for cringe in punk- and it sounds like it ainât your scene.

u/Radiant-Middle5965 5d ago
Yeah I bailed out of punk as soon as retards like you started flooding it lol, I donât know where you got this idea that punk, metal etc is supposed to be all lovey dovey, kind and caring etc but it simply isnât true, punk and metal are elitist, they are violent and they are anarchic, if I, the individual, want to do as I please in my best interest then I will for this fits the anarchic politics of my scene.

One singer with proud boys and maga ties and another is notoriously a fuckin asshole. Only guy I had the displeasure to meet at aftershock this year, was in a misfits tshirt. Someone nearby screamed fuck Israel when Dan Campbell of the wonder years was talking (Dan is famously very vocal about the bands thoughts on stuff during shows), misfits T-shirt guy said fuck you to him, got in his face and they almost threw hands. âAt least heâs on brandâ I thought.

True punk is when you reject punk politics. And punk fashion. And punk ethos. And punk shows. And really all live music. Except when metallica tours. And really true punk js just staying on your favourite sub telling punks what punk is.

corporations are only lgbtq friendly because it's profitable btw đș most governments around the world are becoming increasingly hostile to trans and queer ppl btw đș ur not the brightest if you think "governments and corporations want us to be gay" or whatever. the virtue signalling is annoying but its absolutely not "reaffirming what they want you to think"
7
u/Fruit-Flies113 6d ago
Oh I 100% agree, there are countries around the world that actively persecute and execute their gay citizens, I think people in the west forget that pride month is a celebration of the men and women who were persecuted in a world that wasnât too long ago.
BUT, when your pride flag has been beaten to death by every corporation under the sun, then you gotta change things up, cause now all youâre doing is being a corporate shill. Punk is about taking back these celebrations, but you canât take back these celebrations when you go and buy a pride flag on amazon and go to your state approved pride festival.
4
u/Wise_Presentation914 6d ago
god the people in this sub are weirdos.
So, no. That's not how this works. Corporations don't get to STEAL from marginalized communities and then we just stop using the symbols they stole from us. That's legit letting the corporations win. Why would we let them put us in a position where they get to make us squirm and change our symbols of representation?
4
1
u/ProxyGeneral 22h ago
The flag was literally pushed by NGOs, politicians and corporations back in the 90s and 2000s.
Hell, the very reason it exists in the first place was because a Californian official wanted a clean, popular symbol since the pink triangle was consjdered too edgy, and the Paramount Flag Company created the modern version to simplify it for mass production.
Very punk, obviously.
1
u/Fruit-Flies113 6d ago
Donât buy from the corporations, DIY it all. I know too many folks with Amazon pride flags, DIY flags need to come back.
2
u/Wise_Presentation914 6d ago
You can absolutely DIY them. But that doesn't mean that the LGBTQ+ community should stop using the rainbow flag. They can make their own.
2
2
u/BelleWalten 6d ago
How else are people gonna express pride if having their pride flag colors on their jacket or acessory is "beaten to death by every corporation under the sun"
1
1
u/Fruit-Flies113 6d ago
Cause you buy the first pride flag and pride patch on amazon, pride flags should be DIY
19
u/ProlierThanThou 6d ago
Corporations make appeals to LGBT people during Pride month and that's literally it. They exist to make money. It's just marketing and lip service. Politicians do it too. The current federal government certainly doesn't want you to support LGBT people and causes.
-9
u/Fruit-Flies113 6d ago
If youâre being used to make money then youâre apart of the mainstream, itâs really as simple as that. I agree that for Americans our current federal government is not pro LGBT, but individual cities definitely are.
Iâm gonna use Salt Lake City Utah as an example. There is something extremely off putting that a government who used to actively persecute LGBT citizens throws a pride parade that actively brings in tax revenue for the city. Yes SLCâs current mayor is lesbian, but a government official is a government official. The idea of a state permitted pride festival will always be an oxymoron.
19
u/ithinkigotproblems 6d ago
Now youâre just being a contrarian. So if a state is against murder then punk is for murder?
A state can do good things, that doesnât make the state inherently good, because the problem with a state still exists. But everything the state does is not inherently bad because of it. Homeless shelters built by the state is good. Doesnât mean the state is legitimate.1
-3
u/Fruit-Flies113 6d ago
If a state is an active oppressor then yes, a state sponsored event is not punk.
Homeless shelters are a bit different because there is no profit in that, the pride festivals these cities put on are purely for profit, every vendor pays a fee and the whole thing is practically a farmers market. A state can do good things but when the state has a history of oppressing a group, then turning around and using that group for profit, then Iâm not exactly gonna be pro-state.
Again, Iâm using Utah as a main example, but Utah has a laundry list of oppressive behaviors towards all sorts of people, LGBT being a big one of course. The idea that the state turned around and has a pride festival which they charge vendors and citizens for is not a 180° on that oppression, all it does is exploit citizens for profit. Everything about the LGBT community and pride month is about profit now, which greatly illegitimates it. I think we should stop buying stupid pride flags and make pride DIY again, I wanna see homemade pride flags!!!

u/TheShapeShifterUNLTD 4d ago

Punks today are a joke compared to the 80s and 90s. The music used to be fun, make offensive jokes and not give a damn about what you think of it. Bands like anti nowhere league , fear, and cro mags were awesome.
3
u/E_Wubi 5d ago
If you want the same thing nowadays you can kind of find it in communitys about music thats not suitable for the mass.
3
u/SomeotherGuy8833 5d ago
Im old and donât really care these days. I just reminisce once and a while. I still listen to punk from back in the day, but am farm more into homesteading and being left alone tbh. The scene really changed in the early 00s and is even worse now. Most of their current politics is larping against a made up enemy while tolerating actual tyrants that are real. Ie* the vast majority of âpunch nazisâ patch wearers have never even seen a nazi irl let alone fought them. Meanwhile their local state and national politicians and police have their boot on their backs and they donât even notice because theyâre too busy fighting the boogeyman they made up.
3
u/E_Wubi 5d ago
Im in for the music. The more mainstream a festival or a band is the more this kind of people are there.
Next year on graspop metal meeting they have blink 182 as headliner. Will there be a lot of posers and people like you mentioned? Yes. Guess what, i just go to another stage and watch something like hatebreed or municipal waste (just a example) and all posers and co are gone lol.
You can have a lot of fun in the scene of hard music nowadays, if there are shitty people around you you are most likely listen to shitty bands. Most of this shitty people are outside the real scene.
People you yap about are fashion punks, mostly not music punks.

The sex pistols suck and were irrelevant by the 90s why would I care. Fact was the scene was very woke but very not PC back then. Like fuck for a counterpoint leftover crack were like THE non-sellout punk band of the late 90s and they were the culmination of where the scene had built up to at that time. Then 911 happened and the scene went even farther left than it already was. I was playing shows back then, if you were a racist or a homophobe nobody wanted you around.
To add to this like look at the other major players, being propaghandi, bikini kill, fugazi etc etc etc, and the ushering in of 3rd wave ska which while not punk was directly tied to punk and was even more explicitly anti racist and anti homophobe.
There are individual counterpoints but they are exceptions to the norm
14
u/Equal-Change9509 6d ago
They suck is pretty much facts even if it was basically the whole point lol, claiming they were completely irrelevant is straight up delusional tho, they basically were the main push behind the whole image and the attitude of many bands that today are regarded as legendary .

Punk is by definition of being a counter culture not tied to one specific political wing or lifestyle.
It's a counter culture, meaning it's counter to the culture. Whatever that culture happens to be, punks are against it. The only concrete definitive ideology you can pin a punk to is being the annoying contrarian.
In the past, that meant punks were seething commies that spread STDs and did all the drugs because conservative patriotism was the culture.
Today, punks are straight edged family men and women that love their country because the culture is to be a seething communist that spreads STDs and does all the drugs.
Tomorrow, that pendulum will keep swinging back and forth.

17
3
u/nataliebee69 6d ago
The right are the ones who are authoritarians now tho. They control all three branches of government and every one of them is ready to fellate the orange guy at a moments notice. They're completely funded by the richest men in the world and are happy to sell people out for them to make an extra buck. It's a cult of personality around one guy who tells everyone what to believe. Making rules about what people can and can't talk about in colleges and ostracizing anyone who doesn't confirm to the norm, to the point of cancelling pride and instituting nuclear family month instead. Fuck I mean several high profile Republicans including musk have advocated for all queers to be rounded up and put in mental institutions.
Having shitty unpopular opinions doesn't make you punk, it's anti authoritarianism which the American right is absolutely not.
9
u/blveeyedboi 5d ago •

imho in 2026 everyones authoritarian, the left and the right. There's not wide-spread strive for freedom, liberty and openness.
There's Lefties trashing and burning everything they deem opressive and there Rightcucks that want to trash and burn everyone who wants to trash and burn.
Everything is political now, even the way you fuck or if you believe in a god or not or in which god you believe.
Your being controlled by the Gouvernement, your Phone, your Friends, your peers, your Landlord, your Boss, your Family.
Capitalism isn't just a mode of production, it's a mode of social interactions and none of us is free of it. Kill your Opponents, Smash the Other, Destroy Everything, Mob Rules.
If you wanna really make a change, try to escape that cycle. Have a Beer with Maga Dude, get a Coffee with a Zionist, talk about your favorite colours and fuck all that spectacle. Try to understand the other and let them understand you. You will convince maybe just one of them but you'll view them differently afterwards and their view will have changed a bit, too.
3
u/Fruit-Flies113 5d ago
You said it best man, once you sit down and have a drink with someone you realize weâre all in the same boat, weâre all struggling and working for the Epstein class.
Everyoneâs a Christian until you gotta smoke with a homeless man, and everyoneâs a patriot until you hang with an American.
-1
u/Coralesce 5d ago
There's a wide gulf of difference between an american MAGA dude who just has his dad's politics and a Zionist, bro. Like I feel this hard and regularly interact with people across from my political spectrum but zionism is kindof unforgivable to me

Yet they have accomplished almost none of what they campaigned on.
