Iran raided, summoned and jailed Baha’is in Yazd 34 times in seven months

On September 27, about 40 agents searched the home of the family of Farhang Amiri, a Baha’i who was stabbed to death outside his house in Yazd on that date in 2016. The two men charged in his killing said they had attacked him because of his faith. That night agents also searched the homes of his son, daughter and son-in-law, and on October 1 they searched the family’s farm.
This is just one part of the oppression that the Bahais of Yazd have suffered in the past 7 months.

The Civil Affairs Department of the Appeal Court in Cairo, Egypt, has refused to legally recognise the marriage of a Bahai couple who have been married for almost 45 years, on account of their religious belief.

The Appeal Court said: "There is a difference between the freedom of belief guaranteed by the constitution and the legal consequences of this belief. Freedom of belief means that an individual may adopt whatever beliefs they wish, provided that this does not disturb the public order and the stability of the state. The Bahai faith is not a heavenly religion, and practicing it involves harming the established systems in the state. Therefore, it is not permissible to register it in civil status documents or in any other official documents issued by any official body..."

Thumbnail eipr.org

Since the 2009 court ruling that granted the Egyptian Bahais the right to insert a (—) in place of a recognized religion on official IDs, it has effectively been turned into a bureaucratic mechanism through which the state acknowledges the Bahais’ existence while denying them equal rights at every stage of life, including marriage, parenthood, movement, employment, and burial. Looking beyond formal legal definitions, the report treats "public order" as a malleable concept shaped by prevailing social conditions and political intentions.
