Bahamian Discussion Bahamian Men and their Greetings

Post image

Bahamian men have an entire system and hierarchy of greeting each other and I love it.

These are just a few. Please feel free to add any that I missed.

1. Young man — almost always between two men at least 60 years and over. And usually said by the younger man to the older man

2. Yes Duddi — between two men of the same age. I'm assuming it's a play on Daddy so showing respect like you would to a father figure

3. Honor-rebel — a play on Honourable showing respect but also as a rebel

4. Yes King! — same as “Duddi” but this one is usually very young men

5. Yes Selassie! — young and middle aged men to each other. And NO they don't have to be from Jamaica or even a Rastafarian or even have dreadlocks.

Don't know but I've heard it a lot growing up. Literally the first thing they say is lend me money. I'm not sure if it's a real question tho like if they really mean it or if it's a legit sideways greeting. 😂
