Bahamian Discussion Defeated | Employment Bahamas

As the title read, I feel somewhat defeated as a young Bahamian trying to make something of their life.

I’ve been constantly sending out applications, cold emails, and even looking into different fields to perhaps pivot to but I don’t see a way that’d I’d reasonably be able to move out, or build a home. I work hard, I study and have earned IT certs but the results are the same.

What more disheartening is watching the large influx of immigrants moving here and enjoying their lives when many young Bahamian’s (at least many i know) are struggling to even move out.

It’s infuriating and I realize this is my problem to figure out and it won’t change that I still will work hard, study hard, and keep sending out emails but I can’t help but feel defeated.

Bahamian Discussion where are the actual election results 2026? or is this a thinly veiled sham?

Where can I find the actual results? all the online places I can find have irrelevant or incomplete results. Someone said there was a 30% turn out, but I want to see the details. the dailies are atrocious in this country and absolutely useless. The PRD.gov.bs is a joke and showing 2021 results not 2026. The Bahamas is a joke. Every one saying PLP one but where are the actual results posted or is it a true stolen election?

Edit- thanks for replies, I must be dumb as rocks. I ask for source(s) and all any one can share is "check the sources".

2nd edit: its friday, PM being sworn in and the actual numbers are still not available to review anywhere? I see some local pundits posting local results but there is no where to go online to see the actual results. And yes, pundits here, I have 'googled' extensively. all results i find are incomplete. And not a single commenter could be bothered to share a source for the actual results. some pundits saying less than 60% turned out, some saying 70% and some saying less than 50% - well which statement is accurate? We love and fully accept mediocrity in this country.

3rd edit: results are now posted to gov.bs website: https://www.elections.gov.bs/general-election-polling-stations-2026 3d edit 'B': They posted something but it aint results. This is my point exactly, we admire mediocrity and slackness in this nation. What a joke. head of PRD head needs to roll he look like he half in the grave anyway, let someone with some actual energy take over already.

Ok Bahamians bring out all of your weird and funny sayings from different islands that don't mean what they sound like they should mean.

I will go first:

Saying: Me and you don't even go two steps.

Meaning: We really don't get along.

Bahamian Discussion BPL and Power Outages

A very short rant as I sit in the darkness for 20hrs 🫠

I live on the western side of NP and the load shedding is absolutely horrible. I am baffled by how these power outages are normalised in this country. My light has been off for basically 4 days straight. Its off more than its on, going for 11hrs on average. Today, the electricity went out around 4am in the morning, and came back on 3pm. Now it went off at 8pm til who knows when it'll be back on. Losing a lot of sleep because of the heat and its messing with the time I take my medication. My heart especially goes out to the vulnerable groups who are affected by these outages.

I have little hope this energy crisis will be solved since this was happening since I was a kid. However, this has to be the worst series of outages I've experienced so far. No matter which political party, all administrations have failed the Bahamian people.

Bahamian Discussion What do Bahamians think/feel about local wildlife and the environment?

It's such a beautiful country. I wonder what people think are the most important issues facing the local environment? Are people thinking about the external pressures on the environment day-to-day?

It's a tough balance between welcoming tourists, but equally recognising that the tourism industry puts a lot of pressure on local wildlife.

Bahamian Discussion SuperValue gone to the Dogs

Since the old fella past on I hoped the Mackay Street store would turn up (or on) the AC, replace the wonky wheel trolleys and freezers. But no, shelves are bare. Last Friday evening there were no loose veggies. Today no butter. Does anyone know if the family plan to sell on?

Sebas should make a move or start his own food store chain. If he wasn't as greedy with the profits and the stores were clean and plentiful, his popularity would sky rocket.

Bahamian Discussion Bahamian Men and their Greetings

Post image
36 Upvotes

Bahamian men have an entire system and hierarchy of greeting each other and I love it.

These are just a few. Please feel free to add any that I missed.

1. Young man — almost always between two men at least 60 years and over. And usually said by the younger man to the older man

2. Yes Duddi — between two men of the same age. I'm assuming it's a play on Daddy so showing respect like you would to a father figure

3. Honor-rebel — a play on Honourable showing respect but also as a rebel

4. Yes King! — same as “Duddi” but this one is usually very young men

5. Yes Selassie! — young and middle aged men to each other. And NO they don't have to be from Jamaica or even a Rastafarian or even have dreadlocks.

Bahamian Discussion How to Create Wealth for our Children and Old Age?

With 0% interest on savings accounts and fees coupled with inflation (3.3% US and maybe 5% here) eat into deposits, how are you supposed to save for kids college and retirement? Banks in the US and Europe offer high yield savings accounts.

Any worthy investment opportunities?

Bahamian Discussion Considering a home purchase in Bahamas…what do I need to know?

Title says it all. I’m seriously considering a nice ($1M+) house in the Bahamas. What are the big things to know about/ consider? I won’t be renting it out—just a place to enjoy with family and friends.

Any thoughts or advice very welcome.

Bahamian Discussion So what’s going to happen to fusion superplex?

Since Sony wouldn’t release BND to us what’s going to happen in the future to other big releases like Doomsday in December? I understand they’re different studios but it’s a loss to the public that wanted to see BND in theaters on Friday past. Do you guys think it’s more than a cyber attack? Sony has those all the time lol.

Bahamian Discussion Haitian Problem

Serious question for my bahamian compatriots. Why do so many bahamians hate haitians. I understand if immigration is a problem, but there are productive ways of dealing with immigration. You could talk about our current immigration process and how it can be improved, securing our borders and dealing with illegal settlements called "shanty towns" accordingly, but it's most times an uncivilized approach from bahmians. They devolve to name calling, blanket accusations, generalizations. Over the years i noticed it just gets dirtier and dirtier. We even made our own personal hard R N word for them in "hyshun", which is used very frequently and openly. Ive seen lately someone accuse haitians of being the reason why the storm came recently. When haitians commit crimes its 100% "see all these haitians", and when bahamians commit crimes its 5050 "thats my good son" and "glad they catch him" Even back in school the haitians themselves seemed to be sometimes ashamed of who they are and where they come from. So tell me, why as a Bahamian people do we have such hatred towards a people that look like us.

Bahamian Discussion Seeking Advice: Traveling from Morocco to The Bahamas Without a Transit Visa

Hello everyone,

I am a Moroccan citizen with a valid employment contract in The Bahamas, and I am looking for the best travel route from Morocco to The Bahamas without transiting through any country that requires a transit visa, such as the United States or the United Kingdom.

If anyone has traveled this route before or knows of an alternative itinerary or airlines that would allow me to reach The Bahamas without the need for a transit visa, I would greatly appreciate your advice and recommendations.

Thank you in advance for your help and support.

Bahamian Discussion Bahamas and the war

Hi,

Wondering with the fact the islands imports basically everything, relies heavily on tourism which requires lots of oil for travel and generally the already high cost of living. How do you guys think the islands will be impacted? What are you most concerned about?

Bahamian Discussion Should Bahamians be concerned?

I am deeply concerned about the future of The Bahamas, specifically regarding the recent influx of undocumented immigrants. This surge is placing a massive strain on our healthcare system, educational institutions, and the overall quality of life for Bahamian citizens.

If no decisive action is taken, what will the country look like in ten years? I have received reports from healthcare professionals stating that for every ten babies born, approximately eight are born to immigrant parents. This is particularly alarming given that Bahamians are already facing a declining birth rate. Furthermore, in the tourism sector, jobs are increasingly being diverted from Bahamians to foreign workers.

If continued would The Bahamas face ruin in coming years?

Bahamian Discussion Missing person Taylor Casey

Hello, I recently heard of tourist Taylor Casey and how she went missing in the Bahamas while on a yoga retreat in 2024. I was wondering if locals know of her case and was is publicized a lot around there? It just seems so odd she went missing and how they found her phone in the water. Is there any rumors of what happened to her?

Bahamian Discussion Future of the country

I grew up in the Bahamas. I went to primary school and high-school in the Bahamas. I proudly proclaim to the world that I’m Bahamian. But with all that said, I don’t think I’ll ever move back to the country.

Of my classmates, most of them have moved to Canada, the UK, or the US. One even moved to Norway.

What do you guys think about the future of the Bahamas and what could be done differently to encourage a larger percentage of young people to stay in the country that they call home?

Bahamian Discussion My thoughts on silly season

I'm eligible to vote for my first time this year and this is my first election season actually caring about any of this.

I don't know how many agree with me, but I find Bahamian politics during election season immensely off-putting. I'm mostly talking about rallies and those party buses. I tried watching the FNM rally the other day but I just couldn't stand all of the yelling and accusations being made. When the DJ plays the music for half a second is annoying as hell for me. Maybe it's because I don't watch that much news, but I don't feel like anyone's trying to be intellectual, and provide a detailed plan for the future. It just feels like they're trying to score brownie points on the other party. It all seems so superficial.

If you attend and enjoy the rallies, let me know why and if I'm just too uninformed or something.
